Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 281: Chapter 84: The Mix-Breed Big Wolf Dog, Such a Familiar Scent

Merkel shook his head, ”My bloodline isn’t too pleased with the Wolf God. We are Earth System Magical Beasts, and no matter how good our relationship is with their Moon System, there is still competition. The Wolf God was originally from the Moon System yet he quite fancies becoming the king of all Magical Beasts. Back then, the wilds were mostly populated by Earth System Magical Beasts.”

Hill couldn’t help but smile slightly, Merkel was always reticent to say much, but now he couldn’t help himself?

Merkel paced a few steps, his usually dark face unusually troubled, ”Although I don’t want to rush my advancement, it seems like I can’t hold it off anymore. I was barely suppressing it, and after hearing this news, it feels like my ancestors’ souls are burning.”

”Ah!” Hill regretted waking up Merkel.

”Thank you for telling me,” Merkel said upon seeing Hill’s reaction, ”If I found out after advancing, my bloodline might not break through to the highest level.”

He revealed a faint smile, ”If I don’t want to be suppressed by an old rival, the inheritance from my ancestors will definitely become fiercer.”

”That’s good in a way,” Merkel walked into the cave and dragged out a sprawled-out sleeping Alice, handing her to Hill, ”When Alice wakes up this time, she will definitely advance to Legendary. She will give you plenty in return since she has benefited a lot by staying by your side. A few days ago, she suddenly fell into a deep sleep, and her power has been rising rapidly. Have you done something significant?”

Hill asked suspiciously, ”The day the Goddess of the Hunt and the Lord of the Moon Elves died?”

”Dead?” Merkel lifted his head, ”No wonder Silvermoon became a bit more conscious. The first Moon Elf in this world isn’t much different from her children. The Goddess of the Hunt was so naive, yet no one dares to provoke her. Isn’t it just because she is a Child of the Moon?”

”So, she thought she could become the Moon Goddess?” Hill asked curiously. It seemed there was nothing wrong with the Goddess of the Hunt competing for her mother’s position.

But isn’t her mother still alive and well?

”She is merely the first child sprung from the Moon Tree planted by Silvermoon,” Merkel said disinterestedly, ”only the Moon Elves regard themselves as the Children of the Moon, thinking too much.

I guess something happened to the Moon Goddess’s artifact, which is why that Moon Tree burned itself out.

They must believe that since the Moon Goddess has been asleep for so long, she must have completely perished, which caused the artifact to be destroyed.”

Why then did the Moon Goddess’s artifact suddenly get destroyed?

”Silver Wolf once suspected someone intended to strike at the moon; the artifact that protected the outer halo was destroyed, but it couldn’t reach the moon.

He mocked the foolish Moon Elves for a while but didn’t bother the Moon Elves too much, considering they were both Children of the Silvermoon.

The Moon Tree wasn’t that important. Silvermoon would only care about the Goddess of the Hunt. She is a goddess of universal love, without the most precious child.

So even if the first Moon Elf died, she would only awaken a sliver of consciousness to see if something big had happened outside.

But if you’re saying a White Wolf ascended, then she must have long forgotten about the Goddess of the Hunt.”

Hill felt it wasn’t good—Silvermoon didn’t sound like any proper goddess, right?

And, you emphasized that it wasn’t all Elves he didn’t bother, just the Moon Elves, right?

”I’ve always thought he was part of the Earth Deity System!” Hill couldn’t help saying.

”He has, the blood of Earth,” Merkel rolled his eyes rather elegantly, ”Otherwise, why would he fancy Lake Water? Their God System lineage is so chaotic, any compatible match would do. Although loyal in affection, their tastes are always peculiar.

The Wolf God has Snow Mastiff blood in him. So it’s not strange that the Lake Goddess fancied him. Even though he doesn’t know Water Spells, Water System Magical Beasts still feel close to him.”

Hill’s eyes widened—was this some sort of tri-elemental wolf-hound mix?

Merkel said, ”Otherwise, how would he dare to claim the title of King of Magical Beasts? He indeed is the most suitable. Neither Earth System nor Moon System Magical Beasts would fail to give him face, after all, he is indeed the most powerful and also has a Water System Goddess as his wife.

The one who ascended this time is a purebred Silver Wolf, right?”

”So, which is stronger, the power of the Wolf God?” Hill had always been eager to know this.

”He only knows 2 Earth System Skills,” Merkel suddenly stood up, ”It’s all thanks to those weird Illusion Spells from the Moon System. But Earth System Magical Beasts just can’t beat him! There’s nothing to do but accept it!”

”But everyone says he’s a Demigod of the Earth System!”

”That damned cur!” Merkel couldn’t help standing up and cursing again, then sighed and paced, ”It’s a good thing you told me; otherwise, I wouldn’t have known that my bloodline’s ancestral consciousness was still so strong. I need to clear things up before advancing.”

He stopped, his look complicated, ”The Wolf God likes letting outer enemies think he’s of the Earth System, so his stealth attacks are unstoppable. Who would have expected that cur to cast Meteorite Fall and also use Illusion Techniques to make it seem like a snowstorm!

Later on, Magical Beasts quietly concealed this fact, so Elves and Dwarves all thought he was of the Earth System.

That’s why he kills with such relish. Sometimes Elves or Dwarves die without knowing they were killed by him.”

Hill silently nodded, gaining a deeper understanding of the Wolf God’s kin.

So this Silver Wolf that appeared later isn’t the Wolf God’s own brother but from a collateral branch, yes? The bloodline is more purely of the Moon System.

”Is Silvermoon Wolf God his brother? I think His Majesty’s lineage is rather pure Moon System,” Hill still asked.

”Ah, that must be from his branch, not a direct sibling,” Merkel answered directly, ”His parents are quite famous; if they had a new child, the High-level Magical Beasts would be aware.”

Hill was tempted to directly ask Merkel about that ancestor—if they thought the wolf-dog was a new breed, hence the attention.

”They want to know if the children of wolves and dogs are all that powerful,” Merkel informed Hill knowingly, ”Back then, Magical Beasts had a lot of spare time; if Dwarves hadn’t suddenly started hunting Earth System Magical Beasts, they wouldn’t have all gathered under the Wolf God’s command.”

Back then, there was a lake beside him, and as long as the Magical Beast did not die, it could roll in the Lake Goddess’s Divine Arts and then return to the battle.

Even Water System Magical Beasts, no matter where they were, even those old creatures in the sea, would yield a step upon seeing the Wolf God, for he was after all the lover of the Goddess of the Water Element.

In that era, the Wolf God was indeed the only Demigod who could claim the throne of the King of Magical Beasts.

However, now the Magical Beasts are fragmented and scattered.

Neither Hill nor Merkel spoke anymore; it was the lake that brought prosperity and also the lake that led to their demise.

But whom could they really blame? Nobody expected the Spring Water to be that foolish.

Now, with all three protagonists gone, the Mortal World was left with nothing but a sigh.

Hill, holding the sleeping Alice in his arms, looked at Merkel and blessed him, ”I will take Alice with me, waiting for the moment Merkel successfully reappears before us.”

Merkel rarely laughed, ”Don’t worry! I am confident that my ancestors won’t take away my consciousness.”

Hill watched silently as Merkel returned to the cave and closed the stone door behind him.

He could only softly send his blessings and then took Alice back to the Magic Tower.

Laying Alice down in a bedroom List had hastily prepared, Hill turned and appreciated the cosy room. List’s taste seems to have improved a lot!

As he walked out of the room, Hill complimented the following List.

”My taste is indeed most in line with the sir’s!” Hill thought List was beating around the bush and praising himself, and was just about to say he couldn’t do it when he heard List speak light-heartedly, ”That’s why Marsha, having learned so much from Mr. Adrian, is suitable to decorate for the young lady.”

Although I don’t know how you got Marsha to help, I am not pleased at all! Hill screamed inwardly!

Sometimes List’s straightforwardness, typical of the core of the Magic Tower, really was a slap in the face.

Hill, with a headache, went back to sleep; he shouldn’t have said anything.

Lying in bed, Hill slowly recalled the past few days.

He hadn’t planned on keeping that oak tree in his Mental Sea.

Since the Goddess of the Earth was still alive and well, the core of that Divine Artifact must also be intact.

What could possibly go wrong with just a few fallen branches?

He knew that the Divine Artifact of the Goddess of the Earth wouldn’t harm him, but the thought that someone might see his every move through the artifact made him uncomfortable.

When the oak tree grew large enough to encompass the entire Magic Tower, Hill would have already left to find his own half-plane.

Hill knew that List probably did not want to stay in the valley alone.

So, he calculated that once the oak tree grew to several hundred meters high, its canopy should be large enough to cover the entire valley.

As long as there were enough light gaps in the areas rich with Magical Plants, it wouldn’t be a problem.

And after confirming that Hill wouldn’t move it again, the oak tree planned to root itself deeper.

Being a Divine Artifact and not a real tree, it could easily integrate the various Magic Arrays underground into its roots.

In that case, if Hill figured out a way for List to directly contact the control core of this artifact, then even if he took List away, he should not lose control over the valley.

Hill felt confident that before leaving this world, he could definitely advance List to the status of a Demi-God Tier.

Therefore, leaving behind a copy of the current Legendary List should suffice.

Leaving this Tower Spirit under the command of the oak tree, Hill could leave with peace of mind.

Hill’s greatest worry was whether the Goddess of the Earth would reclaim this fragment. But the oak tree, quite aggrieved, denied it.

The World Tree of the Goddess of the Earth had different trees for each branch, with spaces within each that were attached to the main trunk.

If a branch accidentally fell off, the main trunk would soon grow a new one; it wouldn’t have to start from a seed.

As long as the Goddess existed, Divine Artifacts were capable of self-repair.

But no one had expected that branches could actually break off and shatter.

Hill saw that the Moon Tree Seeds had been quietly buried on the highest peak of the small space.

But the oak tree did not mince words, stating that the growth of the Moon Tree would depend on the decision of the Goddess of the Silvermoon once she awoke.

If the Goddess of the Silvermoon didn’t want to bother with the Moon Elves, then with a wave of her hand, the Moon Tree would grow quickly.

But if the Goddess of the Silvermoon decided not to recognize this Clan, then as just an Elf Tree, it would take a thousand years to germinate.

Let the Moon Elves keep sleeping then!
