Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 275: Chapter 78 The Lament of the Wolf Pack

The White Wolf God suddenly asked him, ”Do you have many questions for that little fragment? No need to ask, if they didn’t go into slumber with the Main God, it means they know nothing.”

Hill nodded, ”But I don’t know anything, so I always want to understand a bit.”

The White Wolf looked around and then stopped to ask Hill, ”If I run faster, will you be okay?”

Hill laughed, ”Let me cast a protective spell on myself, otherwise, if you run too fast, I will feel uncomfortable.”

Hill cast a Wind Shield on himself, and the White Wolf tilted his head and said, ”It’s been ten thousand years, there are many unfamiliar spells. I will need to find a subordinate familiar with humans in the future.”

”Elves have also changed a lot,” Hill grabbed a tuft of his fur again, ”But over on their side with the dwarves, I guess not many high-level magical beasts could be passed down.”

”At that time, when we fought, my brother sought the help of the demigod magical beasts from that side,” the White Wolf stood up straight and looked ahead, ”They believed that elves were the Child of Nature and wouldn’t harm them. There were already few magical beasts on the dwarves’ side, those midgets captured magical beasts and bled them to forge weapons.

Child of Nature? Besides the Moon Elves, do those even count? Fools who deceive themselves, it’s only natural that they all perished.”

Hill recalled the demigod Spirit of Nature that was killed by the Goddess of the Hunt and wondered why he was caught by the dwarves and ended up fleeing recklessly into the domain of the Goddess of the Hunt.

If dwarves had innately attacked magical beasts, shouldn’t a deer have avoided dwarves?

If a Spirit of Nature wanted to hide, it wouldn’t be so easily found.

Let alone one strong enough to compete with the Goddess of the Hunt for the position of the Moon Goddess.

Just like Alice, she wasn’t really afraid of an archmage, so Adrian captured her.

After getting familiar with her, Hill realized this characteristic, that as long as Alice wanted, she could completely not be a cat.

It’s just that this form best suited her personality, Spirits of Nature don’t pretend, they appear in forms that represent their inner selves.

But if it’s to save their lives, they could change forms in a short time, even merge into trees.

Once safe, they would return to their habitual forms.

That’s why it was so difficult to find and catch a Spirit of Nature.

If Adrian had ill intentions back then, Alice could have easily escaped. But she found it interesting and followed Adrian to Hill’s territory.

However, the natural scent on Hill made her feel so comfortable that she decided to stay.

After all, Adrian only brought her to the valley, hoping she would take some interest in Hill’s place, not intending to force Alice to stay.

If the previous Goddess of the Hunt, who led the Moon Elves, could still be considered a child blessed by nature, after killing that deer, the consciousness of nature naturally abandoned that elf clan.

The elf had slowly integrated into this world because of the Goddess of the Hunt.

If they had continued to intermarry with the Moon Elves for another ten thousand years, they would have become the rulers of this world naturally.

At that time, humans had just transitioned from scattered tribes to unified kingdoms, dwarves kept to themselves, and elves were the most powerful beings in the world aside from magical beasts.

But even if the world’s will had any dissatisfaction with those newcomers, it wouldn’t use the life of a Spirit of Nature.

Moreover, the elves integrating into this world didn’t bring any harm to the entire world.

Even the dwarves wandering outside still stayed well within the Dwarf Kingdom, didn’t they?

If it weren’t for the exposure of the killing of the Nature God, they would truly be indistinguishable from the world’s native creatures.

The fact that dwarves could enter Kexlote showed they were still in the Neutral Faction, at most leaning a bit towards the evil side.

The Goddess of the Hunt was obviously someone who loved those she loved and hated those she hated.

She had a good relationship with the dwarves, so she thought the Dwarven God of Forging turned to evil because the overall faction of the dwarves had issues.

Perhaps that was a reason, but this God of Smithing was indeed not a good entity.

The human God of Smithing and Craft almost led all his little craftsman believers to their deaths.

The fanatics in the Saral Tri-Nation probably all perished under William’s hands already.

Other countries also did not spare these believers.

Not to mention, most of the temple churches of this God of Smithing and Craft were nearly destroyed.

Think about it, for thousands of years, the believers of this God of Smithing spread across all the high-level areas of human kingdoms, didn’t every noble have a few craftsmen?

Among the dwarves, what secrets could humans have?

Many great nobles of various countries preferred to import from Saral, quietly executing their craftsmen.

This alone dealt a heavy blow to the human world.

Moreover, these craftsmen were innocent themselves, adhering to their deity, wasn’t it only normal for them to discuss some of their experiences with priests? But their faith could no longer be recovered.

Compared to elves, most countries harbored more hatred towards dwarves.

Hill didn’t know if there were any believers left who could wake up this slumbering deity.

And the biggest loser of the demigod Spirit of Nature’s death was only the Goddess of the Hunt and her Moon Elves.

Having turned into the Evil Faction, they slowly lost their status in the Forest of the Elves.

The Elven Royalty who once supported them eventually became the dominant force.

Originally equally positioned clans, the Moon Elves slowly turned into subordinates and vassals.

Yet these foreign elves wouldn’t deliberately harm the Goddess of the Hunt, they planned to integrate the Moon Elves’ bloodline into their clan gradually and eventually become the native elves of this world.

Otherwise, the Elven God King wouldn’t need an heir with the Moon Elf bloodline.

So, who told the Goddess of the Hunt that only a pure goddess could become the Moon Goddess?

Hill felt a bit regretful that the Lord of the Moon Elves died too quickly, she must have known something.

Hill didn’t know where the increasingly fast White Wolf planned to go, but he guessed it wouldn’t be too far from Saral.

At least, this continuous range of mountains was the only one across the entire western part of the continent.

In the western parts of other countries, there were already many small duchies.

Since the White Wolf had walked down the mountain for so long without any human traces appearing, they were possibly still traveling through the western mountains of Saral heading north.

And in the wilderness, no matter where the White Wolf left Hill, he wouldn’t be in any danger.

Magical beasts would kill a passing mage, but they wouldn’t easily harm a passing Nature’s Darling.

Of course, a starving magical beast wouldn’t care.

But if a legendary magical beast, capable of handling Hill, had also fallen to the point of starving to death, Hill believed he could handle it.

Hill turned his head to look at the towering mountains in the distance, wondering where these almost impassable mountains led after becoming legendary.

It was said that in the depths of the northern wilderness and the western mountains, even gods could fall.

In the deep sea to the east, the number of demigods was terrifying.

Why did those legends prefer seeking paths in the starry sky rather than traveling through the entire world? Hill really wanted to know.

The moon slowly rose to the zenith, hanging right above Hill.

The speed at which the White Wolf ran was astonishing, amidst the sweeping wind, Hill reached out a hand, feeling as if he could touch the giant full moon.

The White Wolf suddenly leaped onto a hilltop and howled, the unique howling of the wolf tribe echoed melodiously into the night sky.

Hill loosened his hand and jumped onto a nearby big tree, sitting quietly.

He thought that the reason the White Wolf had Hill follow along was to be a witness, hoping to gather former allies once again.

A Nature’s Darling with the Earth Bear Bloodline was indeed the best witness to the Moon God gathering and reuniting his followers.

Hill closed his eyes, listening to various howls from wolves echoing near and far.

The wolf pack heard their deity’s call and ran frantically towards it.

The howls of the wolves continued for as long as the moon hung in the sky.

Hill listened to the sounds of excitement, sadness, and happiness intertwined and felt a mix of emotions.

Wolves truly held grudges the most.

For thousands of years, countless generations of wolf tribes had changed, yet none forgot the hatred flowing in their blood.

As much as they hated humans, they revered their Wolf God.

In Hill’s perception, within a night, this mountain was already filled with various wolf packs.

The White Wolf stood with wolf pack leaders under the moon, continually conversing.

Being naturally suspicious, he didn’t doubt any wolf would betray him, their Wolf God.

The night gradually faded, the moon slowly descended as it gently brushed past the rising sun.

In the morning sun, the White Wolf asked Hill, ”I still have to wait here for three more days, do you still have food with you?”

Hill didn’t know why he suddenly made this decision, but it was clear the White Wolf was in a bad mood.

Maybe the current situation of the wolf tribe over these ten thousand years made him unable to be happy.

Hill nodded and took out all the meat food he had, piling them into a small hill.

Although high-level magical beasts could go without eating for a few days, the fact that the White Wolf asked for food indicated that the entire wolf pack had moved out.

Even for worshiping the Wolf God, they dragged their families along.

This only meant that these wolf tribes had no stable base to ensure their cubs’ safety.

Once high-level magical beasts left, the cubs might be in danger.

Probably because of the beast tide, the number of legendary wolves was quite low.

The magical beast world has always been cruel. Without enough high-level beasts, one could easily be bullied.

Hill watched the White Wolf, secretly storing away a few meat sandwiches before summoning the wolf pack to eat.

They gave all the cooked food to the wolf cubs.

The large chunks of raw meat Hill threw out were fed to the low-rank wolves.

Hill watched the wolf pack’s orderly actions with a complicated feeling.

He hoped the White Wolf wouldn’t actively go against humans because of the wolf tribe’s hardships.

No matter how disciplined and obedient the wolf pack was, in the current world with only one Wolf God, they could not defeat humans.

But this hope was almost impossible.

As long as the wolf pack had a stable and reliable place, they would definitely expand quickly.

Although it was uncertain whether it would take hundreds or thousands of years, the wolf pack would undoubtedly become the enemies of humans.

Hill could only helplessly watch, becoming a witness of the future.
