Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 246: Chapter 208: Rising Phase: 44

”They broke up a while ago?” Wei Ru Xue was somewhat surprised, ”When did this happen? How come there’s been no news about it?”

”The news has been suppressed and didn’t get out. Otherwise, with Xu Siyao strutting around outside, everyone would have smelled something fishy.”

Wei Ru Xue was silent for a few seconds, then chuckled lightly.

”That young lady is pretty bold, extracting a tooth from a tiger’s mouth.”

”That she is. After all, she dared to go against Zhou Yun right after joining the company. She’s certainly not faint-hearted.”

”Each of them has no small ambition,” Wei Ru Xue sighed softly, then turned her gaze back to herself in the mirror.

-

”Yaoyao, the people from ’Victor’ won’t agree to change your entry order. There’s nothing we can do; everything’s already been set. How about we just stick to the planned sequence?”

Xu Siyao, sitting in the chair, didn’t even lift her eyes.

”I could tolerate walking ahead of Zhou Yun, but why should Yu Sitian be behind me? Is it just because she debuted earlier than me? Is she more popular than I am now?”

Xu Siyao frowned, ”Why can’t you even handle this simple thing for me?”

Yuh Jiangxing was infuriated, but he couldn’t retort.

Thanks to the popularity of ’Eighth Heartbeat,’ even the ratings for its sequel were good. Although Xu Siyao’s reputation among the public was poor due to her previous live-streaming of a false persona, she still attracted a group of fans and was recognized as a celebrity with a name and a following.

Additionally, Xu Siyao had somehow gotten involved with Chen Wenjun from Seapool Film and Television. He Yong had privately instructed him to treat Xu Siyao well.

”Little madam, Yu Sitian has been in the movie industry. She may not be as popular as you, but her status in the industry is high, even higher than Zhou Yun’s,” Yuh Jiangxing said.

”Hmph, pretending to be all high and mighty,” Xu Siyao spoke, ”You go tell the people from ’Victor’ that if they don’t change my entrance order, I won’t walk today.”

When Yuh Jiangxing heard this, the world turned dark before his eyes, and he felt done for.

”Can we not be so stubborn? ’Victor’ is a major magazine, and we don’t have the leverage to go against them. If you really offend them and they blacklist you in the fashion industry, how are you going to continue? You’re a celebrity.”

He pleaded earnestly, ”Look how many celebrities are here today, not to mention all the top models. Ning Yao, Wei Ru Xue, Lew Qingqing, Su Yan, they’re all here. When else in the year could you see them on the same stage? Do you think they are here for charity?”

Xu Siyao snorted coldly: ”That doesn’t mean they can just leave me out. How am I inferior to Yu Sitian? She’s played in so many movies without any notable achievements!”

”Can’t we just let bygones be bygones?”

”No.”

Xu Siyao’s eyes flickered as she said, ”Why don’t you go talk to President He and arrange for me to appear with Zhou Yun? Let us walk the red carpet together. In that case, ’Victor’ won’t have anything to say.”

Yuh Jiangxing stared blankly.

-

”She wants to walk the red carpet with Zhou Yun?” Zhou Lan cursed furiously, ”Who does she think she is? Has she lost her mind? And you too for following suit? You even called me about this nonsense? Do you think this call is necessary? Do you think I would agree?”

Zhou Lan’s scolding was like the clear chime of exquisite bells; Zhou Yun couldn’t help but be curious about what had happened to make Sister Lan so angry.

After a while, Zhou Lan hung up the phone and came over, sitting down.

Zhou Yun stifled her laughter and asked, ”Sister Lan, what happened? What’s got you so angry?”

”You’d better not listen to it. You’d probably get as angry as I am. I sent it back to them already.”

”What happened? The more you say that, the more curious I get.”

Zhou Lan seemed to be trying hard to control her temper, but eventually, she rolled her eyes without suppression.

”Can you believe it? Xu Siyao actually proposed walking the red carpet with you!” Zhou Lan cursed, ”Does she have no sense of her own worth? Is she out of her mind?”

Zhou Yun was shocked.

She really hadn’t expected Xu Siyao to do such a thing.

”She’s attending tonight too?”

”Yes,” cursed Zhou Lan, ”lingering like an unrelenting ghost.”

”Forget it, no big deal, just ignore her,” Zhou Yun said.

Zhou Lan: ”Heaven knows if that plaster won’t stick to you.”

”After the last live-stream incident, everyone knows we’ve fallen out. If she clings to me, I have no qualms about publicly slapping her down.”

”Don’t let yourself go. With so many eyes on us today, any little thing can become news.”

Zhou Yun sighed.

That was the tough part of being a celebrity—always having to be cautious, always having to hold back.

”We should start getting ready to go,” said Zhou Yun.

Zhou Lan: ”It’s alright, let’s wait a bit. Our entry order is towards the latter part; it would still be fine if we leave in half an hour.”

”The red carpet segment is that long?” Zhou Yun was surprised.

”Yeah, they invited over a hundred celebrities today. They could practically hold an awards ceremony.” Zhou Lan clicked her tongue, ”This new chief editor really wants to make a big splash. The public is still unclear about Victor’s change of leadership. Chief Editor Chen Ting has been in charge for over a decade, turning this tiny magazine into a top tier publication. People recognize her.”

”Alas,” sighed Zhou Yun.

Suddenly, at that moment, Zhou Yun’s phone rang.

Seeing the caller ID, she was surprised.

Wen Xi.

This top supermodel, who she hadn’t seen in a while, had suddenly called her?

She answered the phone right away, ”Sister Wen Xi, what are you doing calling me at this time? Shouldn’t you be walking the red carpet already?”

Her voice carried a smile.

Wen Xi said, ”Xiao Yun, I need a favor from you, if it’s not too inconvenient.”

-

Zhou Yun and Wen Xi had met at the VX major show. Later on, when Zhou Yun was filming ’After the Scandal,’ she needed to invite good friends on the show. As she didn’t have many friends in the industry, she tentatively invited Wen Xi, who agreed without hesitation.

After that, she and Wen Xi exchanged WeChat contacts and stayed in touch from time to time.

This was the first time Wen Xi had initiated contact with Zhou Yun, asking her for help.

In reality, Wen Xi was one of the top models at the apex of the Chinese fashion pyramid, publicly known as the ”national model.” One can imagine her capability and status.

Wen Xi needing Zhou Yun’s help was something that Zhou Yun couldn’t quite comprehend.

Twenty minutes later, Wen Xi arrived with a tall and slender young man.

Wen Xi pulled Zhou Yun to a corner and whispered.

”I need a favor, to accompany him on the red carpet,” Wen Xi got straight to the point, ”He’s my junior, and the plan was for me to walk with him, but I’ve run into a snag and now have to walk alone. He’s a rookie, and if he walks by himself, it’ll be tricky dealing with ’Victor.’ I don’t want to owe ’Victor’ a favor over this.”
