Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 223: Chapter 189: Rise Phase: 25

When Lu Yicheng’s call came through, Zhou Yun had already anticipated it, so when she saw Lu Yicheng’s name appearing on the caller ID, she wasn’t surprised but had a feeling of ”finally he calls”.

Sighing.

Since He Yong wanted to win her over, Lu Yicheng certainly wouldn’t remain indifferent.

But thankfully, Lu Yicheng didn’t bring up anything related over the phone, merely congratulating her on landing ”Gentle Little Horse” and then inquiring if she was free recently, if she had time to have a casual meal together.

The choice of words was meticulous, a casual meal, not some proper lunch or dinner, so there wasn’t any serious business to discuss, no pressure, no burden.

Conveniently, two days later, Zhou Yun was going to Beijing for an appearance, and Lu Yicheng was traveling to Beijing on a business trip; they agreed to meet at a private roast duck restaurant.

Indeed, just a casual meal, eating roast duck.

Lu Yicheng said, ”When I was a kid, I often heard others talk about Beijing roast duck. You should know, every time after winter or summer holidays, when we returned to class, there would be a few students who would talk about their holiday travels with their parents. Perhaps it was different for you, but when I was little, not many families could afford to travel, so hearing stories about others’ travels was quite novel. Back then, the most talked-about place was Beijing, and when it came to Beijing, what they had to mention was the roast duck.”

Zhou Yun chuckled, nodding and said, ”That’s true.”

Lu Yicheng: ”So, later when I grew up and started working, every time I came to Beijing on a business trip, I would have a meal of roast duck. It’s pretty odd actually, I don’t particularly fancy it, but I’d eat it every time I come here.”

Zhou Yun said, ”Is President Lu compensating for his childhood regrets?”

”You see, I’ve said it before, you’re a smart girl, indeed you understand what I’m talking about.” Lu Yicheng laughed, as if he had found a new confidant, ”It was probably after my third or fourth business trip to Beijing when I realized, my repeated devouring of roast duck was actually due to the envy built up from listening to my classmates talk about it so often. I wouldn’t admit it, but deep down I envied them. Don’t know if you’ve ever felt this way, but when you long for something long enough, it becomes an obsession that you’re determined to fulfill when you grow up.”

Zhou Yun didn’t know why Lu Yicheng was telling her all this.

She said, ”President Lu, no matter what obsessions you had as a child, you should have the means to realize them now.”

Lu Yicheng gave a slight smile.

”Xiao Yun, I know you’re a clever girl. If you weren’t clever, you wouldn’t have achieved what you have today so quickly. Many people say you’re just lucky, clinging onto Song Chi’s coattails, but I know it’s far from that simple.” All of a sudden, Lu Yicheng’s gaze turned sincere. Within that sincerity, there was also an inexplicable persuasive force, which Zhou Yun couldn’t help but silently marvel at, these leaders sure have their ways, as she heard Lu Yicheng tell her, ”In the future, you won’t just be wildly popular, you’ll become a legend, you have that potential, I can see it.”

Zhou Yun hastily shook her head, saying, ”There are no legends in this era.”

The entertainment industry nowadays had long lost the environment to nurture legends.

Lu Yicheng: ”Then let’s phrase it differently, Xiao Yun, as long as you’re willing, I’ll do my utmost to elevate you to Qingyun.”

-

”It’s not surprising that Lu Yicheng wants to pull you into his camp, but his methods are indeed more refined than He Yong’s, even bringing up childhood regrets.”

”It’s his way of reminding you not to forget how He Yong treated you before.”

”There’s all sorts of undercurrents in the headquarters’ news. At times like these, I suggest you keep a distance from both sides and take care of yourself.”

Zhou Lan’s voice messages came one after another.

Striking a chord with Zhou Yun.

Zhou Yun shared the same view as Zhou Lan.

Zhou Yun sent a voice message to Zhou Lan: ”That’s what I think too.”

If Zhou Yun was solely reliant on the company’s resources to rise to fame, she might now need to seriously consider her current situation. Unfortunately for He Yong, a key reason for his concessions in front of Zhou Yun was that many celebrities couldn’t be separated from the company, because once they lost the company’s resources and support, their popularity would plummet like Waterloo, Zhou Yun was different from them.
