Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 219: Chapter 185: Rising Period: 21

Gu Huaichun is really on fire now.

While canvassing the building, shouts for Gu Huaichun far outnumbered those for Zhou Yun.

Especially when Gu Huaichun waved towards the crowd, those screams hit a peak, as if they could flip the roof at any moment.

Zhou Yun couldn’t help feeling a bit jealous, muttering softly, ”This is really depressing. We’re both leads, why do you have more fans than me?”

Gu Huaichun, full of pride, smiled and said, ”Because I’m handsome.”

Opposite sexes attract, same sexes repel—what Gu Huaichun said wasn’t wrong.

Zhou Yun huffed lightly.

”Did you hear about it?” Gu Huaichun suddenly whispered.

”What did I hear?” asked Zhou Yun.

”My agent told me someone wants us to partner up again for another drama.”

”Ah?” Zhou Yun said, ”I haven’t heard about it.”

”Eighth Heartbeat” has been getting more popular as it airs, almost always trending every day, and the discussions about it on various social platforms are significant.

Gu Huaichun and Zhou Yun suddenly became hot candidates on the preparation lists for numerous film and television companies.

According to Sister Lan, scripts are being sent over every day, each one eager to work with Zhou Yun. Zhou Yun had been popular before, but it was mostly due to controversies. This time, Zhou Yun became famous genuinely through a drama, which is a different concept altogether. In the eyes of film companies, whether someone is popular is secondary; the key is whether they can carry a show.

Although the reputation of ”Eighth Heartbeat” isn’t that great, it’s popular.

This demonstrates that Zhou Yun can carry a show. Before its broadcast, she was the only famous actor in the drama and rightfully the number one.

Moreover, Zhou Yun has a great image and good acting skills, suitable for many roles.

After finishing canvassing, Gu Huaichun has another job and was whisked away incessantly by the agent.

Zhou Yun had a bit of free time, so she sat in the break room with Sister Lan, drinking coffee.

The coffee was bought by Zheng Xiaojue from a nearby café.

”There’s a project from Yuehai’s side,” Sister Lan said, ”Liu Pinran contacted me, they want to cast you and Gu Huaichun as leads.” She referred to the matter that Gu Huaichun brought up earlier, ”I’ve looked at the project, it’s a historical detective series based on an online novel IP. The original work has an excellent reputation, and its physical copies have high scores on Douban. The script isn’t out yet, but they’ve got an experienced screenwriter, so the quality should be good.”

Zhou Yun asked, ”What about the director?”

After experiences with Lu Yuan and Kang Xin, Zhou Yun realized how important the director is for a drama.

”They’re in touch with He Chen.”

Zhou Yun hadn’t heard of this director.

Sister Lan said, ”He has only directed one TV series before, but it was very well-received, and it has broken eight points on Douban, which is pretty impressive.”

Zhou Yun half-relaxed upon hearing this.

She was afraid they’d find Lu Yuan again.

Zhou Yun said, ”But since the script isn’t written yet, it will be a long time before filming starts, right?”

Sister Lan said, ”The plan is to begin shooting in the second half of the year. Liu Pinran wants to sign the contract with us first.”

Zhou Yun said, ”Why the rush to sign the contract? Isn’t there still so long before shooting?”

Sister Lan explained, ”Signing the contract earlier secures our schedule. Plus, releasing the news of you and Gu Huaichun teaming up again will capitalize on the current popularity of ’Eighth Heartbeat,’ aiding in attracting sponsors for the new drama.”

”True, it all comes down to business,” Zhou Yun shook her head and lamented.

”Don’t be sentimental. This time they’re willing to double your pay,” Sister Lan said, ”Full of sincerity.”

Zhou Yun chuckled.

”Also,” Sister Lan added, ”Shen Yao contacted me, wanting to meet after the festival.” She wiggled her eyebrows at Zhou Yun, ”Seems like there’s a chance with that movie.”

”Really?” Zhou Yun was pleasantly surprised and exclaimed with an open mouth, ”Isn’t the audition not yet held?”

”Who cares if you’re hot right now,” Sister Lan said with a smug smile, ”I heard you attended his new movie premiere recently and trended. Although his new film would surely be a hit without your trending news, this is a good sign. Who wouldn’t want their film to do even better? So, it’s normal for Shen Yao to want to meet you. I guess as long as you make a good impression on him, there will definitely be a role for you.”

-

After the fifteenth, the Lantern Festival ends, and so does the Chinese New Year.

”Eighth Heartbeat” continues its hot broadcast.

That evening, Zhou Yun finished her engagements, got into the car, and headed for her appointment with Shen Yao.

Before going, Zhou Yun made a special call to Song Chi for advice.

”Do you know Shen Yao?” Zhou Yun asked.

”Yeah, but not well, we’ve never worked together. What’s up?” Song Chi, who had just wrapped up ”Heart Inquiry,” was staying at home with his parents, living comfortably, even his voice sounded a bit more lazy, ”You’re interested in his new film?”

”You know about his new film?” Zhou Yun said, ”Of course, I’m interested. Sister Lan mentioned there are three roles in his new film that suit my look and age. It’s worth trying.”

”He has many projects at hand; I don’t know which one you’re referring to, but Shen Yao is a very amicable person. You don’t have to worry. He’s easy to talk to, not much different from how he appears on screen, perhaps the only difference is he talks much less. In the few times I’ve met him, he didn’t talk much and wasn’t always joking. Anyway, just be normal when you talk to him,” Song Chi yawned, ”I’ve heard he loves talents. For each film he works on, he tends to give some roles to newcomers, which is impressive. I met an extra once, and I found out they have an unofficial list. They compiled it themselves, full of celebrities who are generous with opportunities. Shen Yao is ranked high on it.”

Zhou Yun was hearing about such a list for the first time. She smirked wryly and teased, ”Celebrity, so are you on this list?”

Song Chi: ”Of course I am.”

”Hah.”

Zhou Yun curled her lip and asked, ”Now that ’Heart Inquiry’ has wrapped, do you have any plans for your next project?”

Song Chi: ”I’m looking. I’ve already committed to two films, so I definitely won’t have time this year. Want to work with me again, huh?”

”Heh, right now Gu Huaichun and I are the screen couple everyone’s looking forward to, okay?” Zhou Yun said, ”Just curious about what you’ll do after such a good drama as ’Heart Inquiry.’”

”The next project is already set, a movie, starting production in May, a suspenseful crime theme.”

”Awesome, bring back a Best Actor award,” Zhou Yun said with a laugh.

Song Chi: ”When will you bring back the Movie Queen award?”

Zhou Yun: ”Movie Queen? I don’t have that skill.”

Song Chi: ”I think you do. Just put in the effort; you can do it.”

Zhou Yun opened her mouth, almost blurting out: ”Is that what you see through a lover’s eyes?”
