Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 243: Chapter 205: Ascent: 41

This phone call lasted about ten minutes.

After Zhou Lan finished the call, she immediately turned to look at Zhou Yun.

”Guess who just called me?” Excitement sparkled in Zhou Lan’s eyes.

”Su Min?” Zhou Yun guessed.

Zhou Lan immediately nodded, making an incredulous expression, and said, ”I never could have imagined.”

Zhou Yun puzzledly asked, ”Why would she suddenly call you?”

Zhou Lan: ”She wants to invite you to attend Victor’s New Style Night.”

”Ah?”

”She promised that if you can attend, they will reserve this year’s October issue cover for you.”

Fashion magazines often mention the golden September and silver October. This refers to the September and October issues, which are typically the most important two issues of the year. Female celebrities who make these covers are usually top-tier stars. With Zhou Yun’s experience and achievements, she wouldn’t dare dream of this spot.

Being on the cover for September or October significantly boosts an artist’s value and status.

”Are you sure you heard it correctly?” Zhou Yun asked in surprise.

Zhou Lan shook her head, saying, ”I’m very sure, I did not misunderstand.”

Zhou Yun: ”How is that possible, me on the October issue cover? Has she gone mad?”

”Don’t underestimate her; she’s very well-informed from the United States. She heard about Shi Luoqi choosing you,” Zhou Lan said, ”Also, don’t forget, you are now the brand ambassador of VX, they are not just giving you an October cover for nothing.”

”The condition is just to attend the New Style Night event, this still seems unreliable to me.”

”Miss Zhou Yun, have you forgotten how popular you are now? You are no longer last year’s gossip-dependent artist who rose to fame alongside Song Chi. You just finished a very successful web series ’Eighth Heartbeat’. You have real fans now. Especially since most of your fans really trust your fashion sense, you’ve even doubled VX’s sales. These are tangible achievements. Being the new editor-in-chief of the fashion magazine, how could she ignore this?”

Zhou Yun quickly made a gesture to stop.

”That’s enough, I know my own limits. A popular web series, you say? Does anyone still talk about it? It just finished less than two months ago.”

”As long as it was hot during its broadcast, that’s enough.”

Zhou Yun rolled her eyes, falling into contemplation.

Zhou Lan also knew what Zhou Yun was contemplating, she closed her mouth and let Zhou Yun think for herself.

Only Zhou Yun would still be pondering and hesitating at this point. If similar opportunities and choices were presented to many other actresses, they wouldn’t hesitate at all, they would instantly know what to choose.

The last time Victor approached Zhou Yun before the new year, wanting her to do a cover shoot. That time, Zhou Yun made a call to Chen Ting, and found out that the invitation wasn’t from her, but from the newly appointed Editor-in-Chief Ren, and due to various reasons, Zhou Yun ultimately declined that invitation. If this time Su Min personally calls to invite, and Zhou Yun still doesn’t go, it would obviously be a major slight.

Zhou Yun struggled for a while but eventually couldn’t hold on any longer.

”I’ll go,” Zhou Yun said, ”since she personally made the call.”

”Go ahead, it’s alright, Sister Ting won’t mind these things,” Song Chi encouraged over the phone after hearing Zhou Yun’s concerns, ”This isn’t a big deal at all, don’t overthink it too much.”

Zhou Yun asked, ”Why don’t you go?”

”I... I’m currently surrounded by trouble, why would they invite me?” Song Chi chuckled self-derisively.

Zhou Yun said, ”You really know how to act in your own interest.”

”Who isn’t acting in their own interest? Just prepare well. Since the new editor-in-chief wants to make a presence, the event won’t be low-key, there might be some controversies, just be careful.”

”You sound like you’re lecturing a school kid.” Zhou Yun scoffed.

”Did you read the script I sent you last time?” Song Chi asked.

”I read it, but... this script, are you really thinking of casting me?” Zhou Yun sincerely said, ”Song Chi, I really don’t need you to prioritize me, I totally wouldn’t mind if you chose another actress.”

”Why do I somehow feel unhappy hearing you say this? With your magnanimity, do you really not care about me at all?”

That was obviously teasing.

Zhou Yun laughed, saying, ”Alright, if you’re willing to have me act, of course I’m willing, but don’t regret it if the movie doesn’t sell tickets.”

”Don’t worry at all, do you think I’m a philanthropist making movies to lose money?” Song Chi said, ”Since you’re satisfied with the script, I’ll have my company contact Zhou Lan soon.”

”Sure, but we might need to coordinate the schedule, my whole year is almost fully booked,” Zhou Yun said. ”I have to shoot a drama in May, and ’Gentle Little Horse’ in October.”

”No worries, this movie shouldn’t take long to shoot, I estimate it can be done in a month,” Song Chi said. ”It’s not a big production.”

”Okay.”

The news reached Zhou Lan, and she expressed amazement.

”Song Chi really treats you well, he set up his company and the first play he produces is not starring himself but has you as the lead,” Zhou Lan remarked, ”He even offered the market rate, not cutting down your payment at all.”

”Sister Lan, please stop teasing. Can we get the contract done and schedule sorted quickly?” Zhou Yun sighed softly, ”I’m really confliced. If another company came to me with this film, I’d be thrilled, and I’d invite you to have drinks to celebrate the chance to act in such a good script, but now that it’s Song Chi, it’s his company producing this movie, if by any chance the film flops at the box office, it’s not just about me wasting time, it’s about him losing money.”

”Xiao Yun, you’re an actress, that’s all. This movie wasn’t something you begged for, he actively sought you. Sometimes I really think you overthink things, but overthinking isn’t always good. Making money, losing money, that’s for the production company to worry about, what are you anxious about? Are you not skilled enough, or not famous enough? Your only shortcoming is that you entered the industry not long ago and haven’t acted in movies, unlike those who have proven their box office strength. So what?” Zhou Lan said, ”These aren’t your problems to consider. Just do what you need to do, act well, cooperate well with the promotions, the rest, all of that, is not for you to worry about.”
