Chapter 2901: Chapter 2902: Stars in the Sky

Ao Song giggled, ”Sister Ruozhu, you’re hilarious.”

”I really saw it with my own eyes.” Bai Ruozhu laughed, ”I’m not exaggerating. Back in the day, a member of the Golden Wings Clan was cursed by someone who didn’t know his real identity. Later, when his clansmen found him, he was truly unlucky wherever he went.”

Her smile widened, ”Sitting on my boat not only brought storms but also broke my mast. Later, when he didn’t want to drag everyone down and tried to fly away, he ended up getting struck by lightning.”

Ao Song couldn’t help but chuckle, but there was also a hint of sympathy, ”That person is really unfortunate. What happened to him later?”

”The astrologers broke his curse, and he went back to the island with his clansmen.” Bai Ruozhu said.

”The island?” Ao Song thought the name was quite peculiar.

”Yes, the island where the Golden Wings Clan lives is further east of Fusang, called the Departure Island. There’s a huge nurturing tree on the island.” She glanced at the slightly moving blanket, knowing Xiaoyu was awake, so she told the story in more detail.

She described the situation on the Departure Island, and talked about the Golden Wings Clan’s preferences, how united they were, and how much they valued their clan members.

”Fusang is already far away, and it’s on the Departure Island which is even further east. How did this child come here? I don’t think his grandpa is from the Golden Wings Clan.” Ao Song asked.

At the mention of ”grandpa,” Xiaoyu’s breathing became heavier, and Ao Song noticed that the child had woken up, feeling a bit guilty, she stuck out her tongue.

”The Golden Wings Clan is quite special. They must be born on the nurturing tree to have a blessed bloodline, only then will they have wings and can soar in the sky. But since some unknown time, the nurturing tree began to wither, and despite many efforts, the tribe couldn’t save it. When I went to Jinchi Island, it had been ten years since a new child was born in the clan.”

”In fact, the Golden Wings Clan started dwindling decades ago. There was once a clan leader who tried to have clan members intermarry with ordinary women, but none gave birth to members of the Golden Wings Clan, and most of those who left never wanted to return. Later, people said it might be because they weren’t born on the nurturing tree, so ten years ago they brought in a human woman, hoping she would give birth on the nurturing tree. But the result was still a human child without wings, and afterward, the nurturing tree started having dry leaves, leading them to believe they had angered the spirits. In fact, someone had tampered with the nurturing tree.”

”The Golden Wings Clan sent away children without wings, fearing they would be unhappy due to having no wings. They didn’t let them know their true heritage. Due to certain circumstances, Achun and I took a friend’s remains back to the Departure Island, where the Golden Wings Clan realized that those who left might have later awakened their bloodline, and even their descendants could awaken their bloodline too.”

Bai Ruozhu glanced at the pretending-to-sleep Xiaoyu, ”Heluo, the clan leader of the Golden Wings Clan, started sending people out to find the clan members, and many were brought back. To ordinary people, the Golden Wings Clan might be seen as demons, but among the clan, they are treasures.”

”So Xiaoyu’s mother should be from the Golden Wings Clan?” Ao Song asked.

Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”If it can’t be verified, Xiaoyu probably awakened his bloodline accidentally because he was beaten last year.”

Xiaoyu suddenly threw off the quilt and sat up, ”I don’t want wings, nor do I care about any clan. I just want to be with my grandpa.”

At the mention of grandpa, tears streamed down his face, and he jumped off the bed to run, but Bai Ruozhu grabbed him back.

”Your clothes aren’t on properly, and you haven’t put on your shoes. Where do you think you’re going?” Her tone was slightly stern, like scolding her own child.

Xiaoyu was stunned. His mother used to say that too, but she was much plumper than this lady. Still, in his heart, his mother was the most beautiful.

But...

His parents had been killed by people from the Yueqiu Tribe.

Tears suddenly burst out, and he wrapped his arms around Bai Ruozhu, ”Mom, please take me away. I don’t want to stay here anymore.”

Bai Ruozhu’s eyes welled up, and she gently stroked Xiaoyu’s head, ”You know, when people die, they become stars in the sky, watching over the ones they love the most. When the stars shine brightly, it’s because the people they care about are happy. The stars dim when they are sad too.”

”Your parents are watching over you, keeping you safe. You’re already a big boy; you shouldn’t make them worry and let their stars dim.”

Xiaoyu sniffled, looking up at her, ”Is it true? You’re not lying to me?”

Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”Look carefully. There will always be a star watching over you every day.”

”Will grandpa become a star and watch over me too?” Xiaoyu asked.

Ao Song felt a pang in his heart and said, ”Your grandpa is probably in a hurry to reincarnate. He did good deeds, so he’ll be born into a good family.”

”That would be great. Grandpa always wanted to eat and drink well, and his wish could finally come true.” Xiaoyu said, wiping away his tears.

Footsteps were heard from outside, ”Master, the child’s clothes have been found.”

”Bring some water in, let him have a good bath, and perform the mourning rites for his grandpa.” Bai Ruozhu said.

Xiaoyu’s tears almost spilled over again, but he turned his head up with effort, forcing them back. He didn’t want his parents’ stars to dim.

Jiang Yichun got the news and came to check on Bai Ruozhu’s situation. Seeing that she was indeed fine, he breathed a huge sigh of relief.

”You, although someone gave me trouble recently, I can still protect myself.” Bai Ruozhu said.

”Even so, you shouldn’t be without any dark guards by your side, or let me accompany you.” His face was still a bit pale, and Bai Ruozhu felt a bit of heartache, hurriedly saying, ”I’ll bring the dark guards, no need for you to accompany.”

His aura cooled, ”Are you despising me now?”

Bai Ruozhu poked his head with her finger, ”We’ve had three children already, and your head is still not right. I’m just worried you won’t heal properly. However...”

She deliberately extended her voice, ”If you don’t heal well and look weak every day, I assure you, I’ll despise you!”

”Weak?” Jiang Yichun was amused and helpless, ”Fine, I’ll take care of my injury.”

After sending off her delicate husband, Bai Ruozhu changed out of her blood-stained clothes, planning to go out.

”Where are you going, to meet Lady Sun?” Ao Song came over to ask.

”She’s not in a hurry. I have to head over to the Medical Alliance, to sort out the kids’ affairs.” Bai Ruozhu said.

Ao Song felt intrigued, ”I’ll go with you.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded, thinking it would be good for a pampered lady like Ao Song to learn about the hardships among the common people, lest she always carelessly throws gold leaves around.

Soon, the two arrived at the Medical Alliance; Branch Leader Wei Mingli came out with his people, looking very excited.

”It’s wonderful that the Alliance Leader could personally come; the doctors have all wanted to see the Alliance Leader.” After saluting, Wei Mingli said.
