Chapter 2900: Chapter 2901: Xiaoyu’s Back

But Bai Ruozhu is not an Immortal; she doesn’t have medicine that can bring people back to life.

She didn’t mind the old beggar being dirty, nor did she care about the blood-stained clothes; she took medicine to stop the old beggar’s bleeding.

Even if she couldn’t save him, she had to do something, or she’d feel terribly uneasy.

”Don’t die, live well, and I’ll forgive you,” Xiaoyu said, crying.

The old beggar spat out more blood, ”Stupid kid, it hurts like hell, can’t you say something nice?”

”If you dare to die, I’ll hate you for a lifetime!” Xiaoyu shouted, and many beggars who saw that it was safe slowly gathered around, unable to hold back their tears at this scene.

”Kid, Grandpa is not a good person, so there’s no good end for me. You have to be a good person in the future, or you’ll end up like Grandpa,” the old beggar smiled forlornly, ”I’m old, not much time left, but you’ve got a long road ahead of you, you must live on...”

His voice grew weaker and weaker, no matter if it was Bai Ruozhu’s healing medicine or acupuncture to stop bleeding, they couldn’t prevent the loss of his life.

Just like he said, he was too old, his whole body was ailing, and with such severe stab wounds, he couldn’t survive.

Ao Song covered his mouth and cried, ”You loved your grandson so much, why did you run for your life last year and leave him behind?”

”I... I’m selfish and afraid of death... ran away and... realized he didn’t follow... I thought no one would attack... such a small child...” the old beggar said intermittently.

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but shed tears. The old beggar, though selfish and somewhat of a bastard, was at least now a good grandfather. He didn’t stay selfish his whole life. Even though he died, he was finally worthy of his grandson.

His eyes slowly lost their light, and his arm gradually drooped down.

”Grandpa!” Xiaoyu shouted and fainted.

The child was too emotional, first terrified, then lost his only relative.

Bai Ruozhu quickly rushed over to hold Xiaoyu. This situation also started because of her; they were here to assassinate her, and Xiaoyu and his grandpa were unfortunate bystanders.

The child felt too light in her arms; he was several years older than Little Dengdeng but not much heavier, which was truly heart-wrenching.

Footsteps were heard from outside; she had secretly sent a signal earlier, and Jianqi and the government soldiers arrived.

Jianqi rushed in first and, seeing Bai Ruozhu covered in blood, his face turned a few shades paler, ”Master, are you alright?”

”It’s not my blood,” Bai Ruozhu said somewhat dejectedly, ”Take these people and interrogate them thoroughly, and Mrs. Sun as well.”

Mrs. Sun fell to the ground shrieking, ”Bai Ruozhu, you won’t die a good death! You killed my husband; if I can’t kill you today, heaven will take you sooner or later! That old man died because of you, you jinx!”

Jianqi kicked her, ”Shut up.”

Mrs. Sun cried in pain.

”Master, let me carry him.” Jianqi reached out to help carry the unconscious Xiaoyu, and Bai Ruozhu handed the child to him, revealing the back of Xiaoyu, where his shirt got torn when he fell.

Bai Ruozhu’s eyes widened suddenly; she wasn’t mistaken, that was...

Those were wings, not demon wings, but like those of the Golden Wings Clan! They were tightly folded, hidden within the tattered, dirty clothes.

In an instant, Bai Ruozhu thought of many things, understanding Xiaoyu’s peculiar temperament, and why he was alone, even self-loathing and sensitive.

It must have been a year ago when the wings appeared after the old beggar was beaten for stealing.

He must have been terrified and didn’t know who to tell. Naturally, his grandfather was the least trustworthy, at least at that time.

He could only hide his wings, like a hunchback, constantly teased as ”Little Hunchback, Little Hunchback.” He even thought it was all his grandfather’s selfish escape’s fault. If it weren’t for that beating, he wouldn’t have grown wings and become a monster, right?

Yes, in his heart, he must consider himself a monster, hence his self-loathing and sensitivity.

But he didn’t know there was a Golden Wings Clan; he still had clan members; he was the blood of the Golden Wings Clan scattered in the outside world.

”It’s okay, he’s not heavy, I’ll carry him,” Bai Ruozhu quickly took him back, covering his back.

She wasn’t at ease, so she said to Jianqi, ”Take off your outer shirt to cover the child.”

Jianqi felt the master was acting a bit odd but complied anyway.

Soon, the government soldiers took away or arrested the assailants, and Mrs. Sun was dragged away after having her mask removed.

Bai Ruozhu glanced at her, ”Don’t worry, I’ll come to see you.”

Ao Song cried until her eyes were swollen, ”This old beggar was too pitiful, let me arrange a decent burial for him.”

”Okay, you have a kind heart.” Bai Ruozhu smiled at her, ”Let’s go back.”

Goudan watched Bai Ruozhu holding Xiaoyu with envy and asked, ”Madam, where are you taking Xiaoyu? Will he come back?”

”It depends on his own choice. Don’t worry; someone will come to help you soon,” Bai Ruozhu said.

”Who?” Goudan asked, puzzled.

Bai Ruozhu smiled, ”Don’t worry, it won’t be long.”

She carried Xiaoyu and walked out, while Jianqi called someone to carry the old beggar’s body, following behind.

”Sister Ruozhu, did you choose this child?” Ao Song asked on the way back.

Bai Ruozhu shook her head, ”He lost his only relative because of me, and I can’t bear to leave him unattended. Besides...”

”Besides what?” Ao Song asked confused.

”He’s a clan member of an old acquaintance of mine; I’ll take care of him for now. I’ll send word back, and maybe they’ll send someone to fetch him soon,” Bai Ruozhu smiled at Ao Song, ”This child will leave sooner or later, so it’s not suitable for him to stay with the Luo Family, lest Luo Family gets sad again when he leaves.”

”Where to?” Ao Song was utterly confused.

”We’ll talk when we return.”

When they got back to the Guest House, neither had yet emerged from the wave of sorrow, so they just instructed the servants to heat some water and buy some children’s clothes.

Bai Ruozhu found a room to settle Xiaoyu, she pulled back Xiaoyu’s ripped shirt at the back, ”See for yourself.”

”Wings, and they’re golden!” Ao Song almost exclaimed, ”My God, to see the Golden Wings Clan here, incredible!”

Bai Ruozhu quickly covered her mouth, ”Let the child sleep a bit more, otherwise, too much sadness is bad for the body.”

Ao Song immediately lowered her voice, ”Did you know? I’ve only seen illustrations of the Golden Wings Clan in books at home, always thought they were special. Can they really fly freely in the sky? Won’t they fall?”

”They’ll fall if struck by thunder,” Bai Ruozhu said laughing, remembering that unlucky member of the Golden Wings Clan.

”Huh? Thunderstruck?” Ao Song was even more curious.

”Think about it, if they fly high, without a lightning rod above their heads, there’s a chance they’ll get struck by lightning, right?” Bai Ruozhu asked.
