Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2929: Chapter 2930: Female Doctor

Bai Ruozhu gave Jianqi and the others a signal, and Jianqi immediately led his people to block the villagers of the Su Family Village. However, Jianqi knew Bai Ruozhu’s stance and was determined not to use force, merely using their bodies to stop them and not allow them to disturb Bai Ruozhu’s treatment.

”Move aside, you all move aside! How dare you behave so arrogantly in the public hall; this is really officials shielding each other!” Someone, unable to push past the dark guards, shouted angrily.

Mei Zhenghua, unable to contain his anger, slammed the courtroom wooden block hard, ”Utter nonsense, this is about saving lives, how did it become officials shielding each other? Don’t make mischief, do you want your Village Chief to be okay or not?”

Bai Ruozhu had already taken out the silver needle and inserted it, and the face of the Village Chief slowly became less purplish-blue.

His condition was due to insufficient blood supply to the heart; after all, he was getting old, and his physical foundation was not very good.

Ignoring the villagers’ insults, she continued to focus on treating the patient seriously. She was a doctor, and she only wanted to heal and save lives, and other matters could be discussed later.

Ao Song and the astrologer had already tidied up and, upon arriving at the county government office, saw this scene.

Many villagers were hurling insults at Bai Ruozhu, but Bai Ruozhu seemed to hear none of it, with her eyes only on the patient, her expression so focused that it commanded respect.

On the contrary, Jiang Yichun beside her wore a dark face, seemingly suppressing anger. Under normal circumstances, he would have already resorted to violence.

Ao Song’s temper flared up. She reached into her bag, grabbed a handful of gold leaves, and tossed them at the county government office’s entrance.

”I, this young lady, am passing by today and giving away gold leaves. Whoever picks them up gets to keep them,” she proclaimed loudly.

The people who had been causing a commotion in the public hall turned their heads in a jolt, seeing the shiny gold leaves on the ground, glistening under the sun, and were stunned.

The nearest people rushed forward first, picking up a piece, and biting into it; then they shouted in delight, ”It’s really gold, it’s gold!”

In an instant, everyone rushed out to grab the gold leaves. Ao Song carefully stepped aside and walked to Bai Ruozhu’s side.

The astrologer, blocked by the swarm of people scrambling for the gold leaves, was momentarily helpless, but at least these people no longer had the mind to continue cursing Bai Ruozhu.

Bai Ruozhu administered a medicine to ease the Village Chief’s qi, and finally, the Village Chief’s breathing became smooth.

Mei Zhenghua observed the situation at the county government office entrance, his forehead veins throbbing, thinking, what a mess this was. The good county office turned chaotic like a vegetable market, could he still conduct his trial or not?

Zhong Xin was also dumbfounded by what he saw; no one was holding him back now.

He leaned over to take a closer look, turned his head, and addressed Manager Wei standing beside him, ”Manager Wei, these are indeed gold leaves. Won’t they start fighting?”

Ao Song, in a calm tone, said, ”Man will die for riches, just as birds for food; they are not exempt from greed.”

Bai Ruozhu put away the silver needle, gave her a reproachful glance, ”You’ve wasted money again without knowing people’s hardships.”

”I was helping them. Moreover, I was also helping you,” Ao Song retorted defiantly.

Over there, someone indeed started fighting. When facing a common enemy, people of the same village can unite against adversity, but when confronted with glistening gold leaves, they couldn’t stay calm to share with their companions.

To some extent, everyone harbors selfish intentions.

”Stop it! No more fighting!” Mei Zhenghua banged the courtroom wooden block multiple times in rage, but no one listened to him. He could only glare angrily at Ao Song.

”Have I made a mistake being a prodigal? I didn’t tell them to fight,” said Ao Song.

Bai Ruozhu felt a headache coming on, signaled to Jianqi, ”Go separate them; further fighting will adversely affect us.”

”Yes.”

The dark guards went to pull them apart, and Bai Ruozhu shouted loudly, ”The Village Chief is awake!”

The Village Chief indeed woke up, his eyelids fluttering. Upon opening his eyes, he saw Bai Ruozhu in front of him.

”Village Chief, I saved you, but your health isn’t good, and you have a heart condition. Avoid running around,” said Bai Ruozhu.

”I—I’m not dead?” The Village Chief finally uttered some words after a long time.

Over there, the villagers were separated, and many had regained their sanity.

”The Village Chief is awake, quickly check if he’s alright!”

They wanted to rush forward but were once again stopped by Jianqi and the others.

”All of you, stay put. His heart is weak and cannot stand stimulation. If you all crowd around, he won’t be able to breathe smoothly. Are you trying to make him faint again?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

This time, no one insulted Bai Ruozhu; some even blushed, having thought Bai Ruozhu intended to harm their esteemed Village Chief, only to realize Bai Ruozhu genuinely saved his life.

By now, a substantial crowd had gathered outside to watch the commotion. The Village Chief struggled to get up from the ground, and Bai Ruozhu reached out to help him up.

In doing so, she felt a scar on the Village Chief’s arm, which seemed not too recent. He was old, and his recovery was slow.

Bai Ruozhu pulled up his sleeve, and the old Village Chief’s eyes widened, ”What are you doing! Men and women should keep a proper distance!”

Ao Song couldn’t hold back and chuckled, ”You’re so old, still talking about keeping distances; why didn’t you mention this while she was saving you?”

The Village Chief blushed, ”I—I just fainted, otherwise, I wouldn’t have let a female doctor treat me.”

Bai Ruozhu could see it; this Village Chief was rather pedantic and seemed quite averse to female doctors.

She glanced at the scar on the Village Chief’s arm and asked, ”This injury happened more than a month ago, right? What happened?”

The Village Chief hastily pulled down his sleeve to cover the scar, ”It’s none of your business. Though I thank you for today, saving my life doesn’t alter the fact that your people sold poisonous toothpaste harming our children.”

”You’re being too hasty without a clear investigation,” Jiang Yichun remarked with displeasure.

”With so many sick children in our village, could I have possibly wronged her?” the Village Chief replied indignantly, then glanced at the county magistrate, ”Sir, the guy who acted inappropriately toward the kids in our village has been brought here, I leave it to your hands, and we’ll head back first.”

Mei Zhenghua’s head throbbed with pain and immediately said, ”Return first; once the case investigation progresses, I will inform you.”

”Thank you, Sir. We trust in your fairness and integrity,” said the Village Chief.

At this moment, hurried footsteps could be heard outside, and a doctor-like person carrying a medicine box rushed over, followed by a farmer from the Su Family Village, who must have gone to fetch a doctor just then.

”How’s my Grandpa? Is he alright?” The voice revealed it was a woman, unexpectedly a female doctor.

She had tied her hair in a man’s topknot, presumably for convenience on the road.

The old Village Chief’s face became grim once more, his complexion turning purplish-blue again, breathing heavily, gasping desperately.

”You dare come, get out!” The old Village Chief roared in anger, his body swaying, seemingly about to fall again.
