Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2925: Chapter 2926: Urgent Ride

”You hit my child, and just a casual apology will do? Look, his forehead is bruised.”

”Isn’t it just that you want me to pay money? Just tell me how much silver you want!”

”Is this your attitude when apologizing? If you showed any concern for the child, would I be angry with you?”

”...”

Jianqi didn’t hear the following words, but he had already realized why the master was angry earlier. His attitude was neglectful of the injured child. The child is so young and must be suffering greatly, but he only cared about how to resolve the matter.

He felt a bit ashamed; he didn’t have children and couldn’t think deeply enough, thus failing to understand what those parents are feeling.

Thinking of this, he couldn’t help but quicken his pace.

Bai Ruozhu was also not in the mood to attend the banquet, so she went back to give her regards to the ladies and excused herself early.

Si Yihuan didn’t leave immediately and was pulled aside by others inquiring, she worriedly said, ”Ruozhu’s shop has been sued, I’m afraid someone has done something manipulative.”

”Is there such a thing? It’s clearly out of envy.” Lady Si said angrily.

”Ruozhu went to handle it, alas, don’t be fooled by the large-scale business, it comes with many worries.” Si Yihuan said with a sense of guilt, ”Unfortunately, I can’t help her much.”

Her mother took her hand, ”Managing things well in the residence is the biggest help you can give Ruozhu.”

”Yes.” Si Yihuan nodded earnestly.

Bai Ruozhu sent someone to call Jiang Yichun, and together they returned to Bai Residence, explaining the situation on the way.

”I think we both should take the water route to Luohe City, otherwise I’d better go in person to check it out. This matter is bigger than usual; I’m afraid someone is manipulating things behind the scenes.” Bai Ruozhu said.

”Alright, then let’s set off immediately.” Jiang Yichun paused for a moment, ”It’s too rushed; our parents might not sort everything out, and if we hurry on the road, the children will suffer. How about we go ahead to handle the matter, and let them set off three days later and meet us at Luohe City.”

Bai Ruozhu quickly nodded, ”That would be best, so that everyone doesn’t suffer.”

The two of them soon assembled the family to discuss the matter and their plan to go ahead.

”I’ll go with you to prevent any demons from causing trouble.” Astrologer said.

Ao Song got excited upon hearing this, ”I’ll join as well.”

With the help of the two, Gao Zhou and Chushuang were relieved, and the matter was quickly settled.

Bai Ruozhu was preparing to inform her Second Brother and Second Sister-in-law when Bai Zepei returned from the palace, bringing the same news.

”Little Sister, you received the news, right? Today the Luohe County Magistrate delivered a petition saying the villagers from Su Family Village collectively filed a complaint against Bai Family’s toothpaste shop, asking His Majesty to send someone to assist in handling the case. His Majesty also asked me if I have any thoughts.” Bai Zepei said.

”I was also about to tell Second Brother about this. Yichun and I want to go and see clearly, the most important thing is to treat the sick children. Our parents will bring Dengdeng a few days later to Luohe City to meet us, after dealing with the matter, we’ll go directly to Beiyu City.” Bai Ruozhu said.

”But you just...” back a few days?

Bai Zepei couldn’t finish, understanding the situation there is more important. In the past, he couldn’t comprehend why Bai Ruozhu was rushing to see those children.

But now that he has children, he understands.

”Travel safely, when are you leaving?” All the words of persuasion were swallowed back, replaced with a farewell.

”Immediately.” Bai Ruozhu said.

Bai Zepei widened his eyes and finally sighed, ”Who do you hope the Emperor assigns to handle this matter?”

”Of course not someone related to our family, otherwise even if we’re right we’ll seem wrong.” Bai Ruozhu smiled, ”There are basically three possibilities: first, an insider at our shop has been tampered with, which means our management was inadequate and we ought to take punishment.”

”The second possibility is someone exploiting this to incite public sentiment, in which case thorough investigation will solve it. The third is a misunderstanding, where we sincerely resolve the issue and clear up the misunderstanding, eventually gaining back people’s trust. So, it doesn’t matter who audits it, I think the Emperor wouldn’t assign an official who’s hostile towards our family.”

Bai Zepei laughed bitterly, ”We don’t have such deeply rooted connections; there aren’t many families we’ve truly offended.”

”That’s right, Second Brother, don’t worry, trust your little sister’s capabilities, plus Yichun will be with me.” Bai Ruozhu smiled at Second Brother.

”Second Brother regrets you leaving again, not knowing for how long, anyway, you should quickly prepare.” Bai Zepei said reluctantly.

Actually, Bai Ruozhu didn’t need much preparation, her belongings were in the space and could be retrieved anytime, she wasn’t worried about lack of supplies. But to avoid suspicion, she had to pretend and prepare a medicine box.

Little Dengdeng stood pitifully at the side, ”Mom, I can diagnose illnesses now, just take me with you.”

”This time, the sick ones are children; it’s too dangerous for you, Mom doesn’t want you to fall ill too.” Although Bai Ruozhu was reluctant to leave her son, this matter was non-negotiable.

”I’m not afraid of poison, surely not afraid of being sick.” Little Dengdeng said defiantly, puffing his chubby face.

Bai Ruozhu gently ruffled his little head, ”But Grandpa and Grandma don’t know how to deal with Poison Masters, if you come with me, who will protect them? You have grown up now, you are a man and can help your parents shoulder responsibility, so you must help protect Grandpa and Grandma.”

”I...” Little Dengdeng, being a responsible child, finally nodded and said, ”I’ll help Mom by looking after Grandpa and Grandma, you can go worry-free.”

He said with tears welling up in his eyes, making Bai Ruozhu’s eyes well with tears as well.

”Alright, we’ll just be apart for three or four days, it won’t be long before we’re reunited in Luohe City.” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile.

”Yes.” Little Dengdeng nodded vigorously.

Half an hour later, Bai Ruozhu, Jiang Yichun, Astrologer, and Ao Song mounted their horses and left the Capital City, speeding towards Luohe City.

Zhao Shu was frustrated for not being able to follow his master; he had never learned horse riding, hence could only ride with someone else, which would slow the horse down, so he had to stay behind and travel with the main group in a few days.

He informed Bai Zepei and borrowed a horse from the Bai family to practice, when Little Dengdeng led a pony over, easily mounted it, and rode away.

Zhao Shu wanted to crouch in a corner and cry; a child was able to ride a horse, yet he’d never seen one in Cliff Village, feeling utterly pitiful.

”Brother Zhao, should I teach you?” Little Dengdeng boasted, ”I learned to ride last year.”

Zhao Shu scratched his head; comparisons are infuriating, at his age he’d still be wearing open-crotch pants, sniffling and crying for food, while Little Dengdeng had learned to ride a horse last year.
