Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2949: Chapter 2950: Blocking the Way to File a Complaint

”No need to bother, egg fried rice is simple, you all go ahead and work.” Bai Ruozhu sighed; she really just wanted to make a plate of egg fried rice.

She selected three eggs, beat them evenly in a bowl, and then asked for some rice from the kitchen. She genuinely started making egg fried rice, without adding even a single green onion—just white rice and eggs, the simplest egg fried rice.

The shopkeeper hadn’t left, and the chef was watching from the side—what kind of dish was this egg fried rice?

Finally, the fragrant egg fried rice was ready. Bai Ruozhu served a small bowl and handed it to Little Dengdeng, ”Eat slowly, there’s more in the pot.”

Little Dengdeng smiled sweetly, ”Mom’s egg fried rice is the best!”

Bai Ruozhu patted her son’s little head, ”Blow it before eating, don’t burn yourself.”

The chef was dumbfounded—was it really just to make the child a bowl of egg fried rice?

He thought Bai’s child would surely eat delicacies like Buddha’s delight; just eating the simplest egg fried rice?

Even in his own family, they’d add some ham, minced meat or something. Bai’s baby doesn’t have picky tastes?

Well, maybe rich people want to recall the bitter and sweet memories.

Little Dengdeng ate two big bowls in one breath; Bai Ruozhu feared he’d get indigestion, so she didn’t let him eat more.

The mother and son bid farewell to the chef and left Yingkelai.

After they left, the chef curiously served himself some egg fried rice and tasted it carefully.

”Chef, is it tasty?” Other chefs gathered around to ask.

”How could Bai’s cooking not be tasty?” The chef glared at them.

But after the chef tasted it carefully, it indeed felt different.

Light and non-greasy, the egg liquid wrapped each grain of rice, merging perfectly, smooth and fragrant at the entrance, with a hint of...

He couldn’t describe it; a chef beside him tasted a bite and suddenly said, ”It has the taste of home.”

The chef suddenly realized, ”Yes, it’s the taste of home, returning to simplicity!”

He burst into laughter, ”I understand, I understand.”

The whole kitchen found it strange—what happened to him? How did a bowl of egg fried rice enlighten him? What did he understand?

”It’s about heart, emotions, it’s the motherly love she has for her child—it’s not just about cooking.” The chef muttered to himself, moving to the stove to start cooking.

He was a fanatic in culinary arts; this was a common occurrence, and everyone was used to it.

After that day, the chef’s cooking skills reached a new level. When asked, he always said it was Bai Ruozhu who guided him, though Bai Ruozhu herself wasn’t aware of this little episode.

In two days, Xue Wenhui had already figured out the whole situation, including meeting Tian Feng, the new village chief of Su Family Village, and the just-retired Village Chief Su Kang.

For these two days, there was endless praise for Bai Ruozhu, making Xue Wenhui almost suspect they had all been bribed by Bai Ruozhu.

Of course, he was only thinking casually.

Leaving Su Kang’s house with his guards, they hadn’t gone far when a woman stopped him by the roadside.

”Greetings, inspector sir,” Niu Pazi said earnestly, observing protocol.

”No need to be formal; are you here for something?” Generally, people wouldn’t block an inspector’s way without reason.

”I have grievances; the village chiefs are all speaking for Bai, but I have sufferings I dare not utter,” Niu Pazi said.

”Oh?” Xue Wenhui felt puzzled. In the past couple of days, not only did he see the village chiefs, but also randomly stopped others to ask about the toothpaste matter, all saying the same as the past and current village chiefs, praising Bai Ruozhu. Not a single negative word was heard.

This made him curious.

Niu Pazi wiped the corner of her eyes with a cloth, ”Inspector, please investigate thoroughly. Bai instigated my daughter-in-law to commit adultery and deceived us, saying my granddaughter Niuniu has an incurable disease, helping the She Family leave our Niu Family.”

”Adultery? Who did she help?” Xue Wenhui asked.

”It’s my third daughter-in-law She Family’s cousin.” Seeing that the inspector was willing to listen, Niu Pazi got bolder and continued, ”You don’t know; she said my granddaughter got pneumonia from the outbreak and needs long-term medication, then purposely prescribed costly formulas, and provoked She Family to quarrel with my second son over divorce. In the heat of the moment, my second son wrote a divorce paper, pitiably my granddaughter was taken away by She Family. She is our Niu family’s flesh and blood!”

Xue Wenhui didn’t hurry to respond, knowing he couldn’t take one side’s word for it. He needed to verify it.

If she really instigated a wife to commit adultery, it would indeed be a crime worthy of exile.

”She even found a demon to perform rituals in the village, then said they needed to open the coffin. After opening it, she claimed someone had set up a plot to harm the village—how could we common people understand these things? Isn’t it like her words alone define the truth? Isn’t this misleading the public? Please, sir, ascertain the facts—how could we lose the wife we worked hard to marry off like this?” lamented Niu Pazi.

”You claim she’s misleading; do you have evidence? I know the villagers saw bodies soaking in water,” Xue Wenhui replied.

”Coffins getting wet isn’t unheard of, but why does she say the village water source is ruined, claiming someone plotted but never finding out who—it’s rather dubious, don’t you think?” Niu Pazi said.

”You go back first; I shall send someone to investigate thoroughly. If the allegations are true, justice will be served,” Xue Wenhui said.

As Xue Wenhui returned with his guards to his resting place, his niece Xue Zhi welcomed him.

”Uncle, you must be tired. Have some tea,” she offered a cloth for Xue Wenhui to wash his hands and presented the hot tea.

”You’re getting more considerate, your parents are lucky,” Xue Wenhui replied joyfully.

”Uncle’s eldest son is the real blessing,” Xue Zhi said.

Xue Wenhui laughed heartily; his eldest son didn’t follow the civil servant path, but went to the battlefield at a young age and is now a deputy general.

He didn’t have the literati’s rigidity, considering his son’s service on the battlefield a good thing. Unexpectedly, his son brought him pride, now he could stand confidently among military generals—even the sons of several generals weren’t as promising.

Thinking of Niu Pazi’s words, Xue Wenhui summoned his subordinates, ”Investigate the matter of the Niu family’s second child’s divorce, and Bai Ruozhu and She Family’s relationship.”

”Yes.”

After they left, Xue Zhi curiously asked, ”It’s the Bai you met before, right? What happened?”

Recognizing his niece’s wisdom, Xue Wenhui didn’t hide and briefly explained.

”I’ve heard Bai isn’t like ordinary women; she has the name of an outstanding woman and many suitors,” Xue Zhi blinked. ”Uncle, you surely didn’t know, even the king of the Barbarian Tribe is her admirer.”

”Is that true?” Xue Wenhui asked in surprise.

”Many from the capital and Northwest know—we girls admire her greatly,” Xue Zhi smiled.
