Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2911: Chapter 2912: Demon Power Ambush

”Ding Xiang really is your own flesh and blood, isn’t she? You absolutely can’t get away now, but she’s still young, she’s got so many years ahead of her, and she doesn’t know anything.” Bai Ruozhu was hinting to Madam Sun that if she confessed properly, Ding Xiang could live; if she stayed stubborn and refused, then Ding Xiang shouldn’t expect to live either.

Madam Sun was a smart woman; otherwise she couldn’t have worked as a spy for so many years without ever being exposed.

”The Yueqiu Tribe will launch an attack, the Northern Garrison will go out to meet the enemy, and it will coincide with the coldest time of the year. By then the army will definitely be decocting medicine soup to ward off the cold, and those batches of medicine soup...” Madam Sun let out a cold laugh. ”The tricks I used on them can’t be found by ordinary people—unless it’s Bai Ruozhu. But she can’t watch over the army every minute of every day.”

”As long as I finish this job, I can go back to my hometown. It’s been over ten years; I’m almost forgetting what my homeland even looks like.” She gave a bitter laugh, eyes staring into the distance as if she could see the Yueqiu Tribe before her.

”My homeland isn’t beautiful at all. Sandstorms are fierce, and we don’t have any fixed place to live. Wherever there’s pasture, that’s where we go. So when I first came to Xunyang City, I was truly glad I’d taken this mission—this place is much more comfortable than my homeland.”

She gave a wry smile. ”But people are just cheap like that; I still can’t forget my homeland. I want to go back.”

She rambled on and on, when blood suddenly began to flow from the corner of her mouth.

”Not good, she’s taken poison!” the county magistrate beside them cried out.

Bai Ruozhu shot forward in a single stride, pressing several acupoints on her body. The silver needles flashed down, and the Detoxification Pills were used as well.

After 15 minutes, a bit of light returned to Madam Sun’s eyes. She glared angrily at Bai Ruozhu and said, ”Why did you save me? You know dying would be better for me. Why couldn’t you let me go?”

”You haven’t explained everything clearly. On what basis should I do you that favor? Who’s going to do a favor for all the people you’ve killed?” Bai Ruozhu countered.

Madam Sun gave a tragic laugh. ”No wonder you’re stronger than me. You’re crueler than I am.”

Ding Xiang burst into loud sobs. ”Mother—Mother, you can’t abandon me. You already threw me away for more than ten years, you can’t throw me away again!”

No matter how resolute Madam Sun tried to be, when she looked at Ding Xiang, there was still reluctance in her eyes. ”Silly child, your mother has to die sooner or later. Even if I don’t die now, I’ll have to go back to my homeland.”

”Then what about me? Why did you even give birth to me?” Ding Xiang asked furiously.

”I had no choice.” As Madam Sun spoke, tears slid down her face; she didn’t dare look at her daughter Ding Xiang again.

After that, Bai Ruozhu asked a few more questions, and she answered them one by one. From her demeanor it didn’t look like she was hiding anything; she was clearly ready to die.

”In your Holy Hall, the one you worship is a man, right? Maybe what you believe in is a male fairy?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

Madam Sun paused, then nodded.

”Do you know he’s a Demon?” Bai Ruozhu asked again.

”Impossible!” She refuted quickly, but there was little surprise in her eyes. Clearly she knew, and the Holy Hall of the Yueqiu Tribe knew as well.

The Yueqiu Tribe weren’t like the people of Cliff Village, who had been deceived into thinking the other party was an Immortal and so started worshiping him.

The people of the Yueqiu Tribe were ambitious. They needed the support of a Demon, so they didn’t care that what they worshiped was an evil Demon.

Bai Ruozhu had long suspected as much, so she continued asking, ”Besides having you worship him and offer incense, what other demands does he have?”

Madam Sun hesitated. She could talk about other things, but when it came to that Demon, she couldn’t speak.

”If you confess honestly, I’ll guarantee your daughter’s safety,” Bai Ruozhu said.

”Let her go free. Give her a new identity so she can live a good life.” Madam Sun named her condition.

”All right, I agree.” Bai Ruozhu didn’t consult Tang Yin at all before answering outright. This was a decision she could make on her own—if she hemmed and hawed and the other side changed her mind, what then?

Madam Sun glanced at Ding Xiang again. Ding Xiang was already a mess of tears, murmuring, ”Mother... Mother...”

”Fine, I’ll talk...” She had only just spoken when an invisible force appeared and clamped around Ding Xiang’s throat.

”Mother!” Ding Xiang called out with difficulty, her face flushing bright red in an instant.

Ao Song chopped a palm toward the space in front of Ding Xiang, and the Astrologer hurled his folding fan with a snap.

The two attacked from both sides at once, yet they still couldn’t force that power back. Ding Xiang was almost unable to breathe.

Madam Sun panicked, leaping forward and throwing her arms around Ding Xiang. She jerked her head fiercely toward a Liangzhu to the side.

”No!” Bai Ruozhu shouted, rushing to save her, but she had just focused all her attention on Ding Xiang; she would probably be too late!

With a splash, a sheet of water took form. Madam Sun crashed into the spray, and with that barrier in the way, the force of the impact lessened considerably. She was still injured, but her life was saved.

”Mother, don’t die!” Ding Xiang, now freed of the invisible grip, crawled toward her mother.

The affection between mother and daughter was truly moving. If they hadn’t hurt others for their own selfish ends, they would now have the respect and sympathy of everyone present.

”Audacious Monster, how dare you run wild here! Reveal yourself at once!” Ao Song bellowed.

Unfortunately, the only response was empty air. The Demon Power vanished, and Madam Sun had fainted dead away.

Bai Ruozhu sighed; after all this havoc, Madam Sun was afraid never going to speak again, not even if it killed her.

They could promise to give Ding Xiang her freedom and let her start a new life, but that Demon had already proven he could kill Ding Xiang at any time. Would Madam Sun still dare to talk?

As for using torture to force a confession—this was a woman who wasn’t even afraid of death, who’d just used Severe Poison on herself. Would she fear torture?

She herself was a Poison Master. If Bai Ruozhu hadn’t been present today, she would have already poisoned herself to death, and she surely had other ways to poison herself as well.

In the end, Tang Yin ordered her taken away in chains and had the Astrologer and Ao Song guard her, lest the Thousand-eyed Monster make another attempt on her life.

”That Thousand-eyed Monster is stronger than I imagined. He isn’t even in Xunyang City, yet his Demon Power can reach here and withdraw freely. Even with Ao Song and me joining forces, we could barely fend him off. He truly lives up to being a member of the Thousand-eyed Monster Royal Family,” the Astrologer said. ”He’s been able to endure for so long entirely thanks to the caution of ’not having gathered enough eyes’ yet. His Majesty also needs to be more careful in the coming days.”

”Why didn’t he attack Us just now?” Tang Yin asked.

”Your Majesty is the sovereign of the land, protected by True Dragon Aura. Even if he wants to attack Your Majesty, it won’t be so easy. Without a completely foolproof plan, he won’t make a move,” Ao Song replied.

Previously, his plan had been to use the Luo Family to trap Tang Yin in Dreamland. Once Tang Yin couldn’t wake from the dream, his body would become an empty shell, the dragon aura would slowly dissipate, and by then it would be easy for the Thousand-eyed Monster to take his pair of eyes.

”Your Majesty, this minister advises that you not go to the Northern Garrison again. Only by returning to the Capital City will you be truly safe,” Jiang Yichun said.

”That’s right, Emperor, your Imperial Palace is the safest place of all. Arrays protect it everywhere; the National Master really did rack his brains back then. Hurry back,” Ao Song said.
