Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2938: Chapter 2939: Money-Losing Girl

Tian Feng signaled to his son Tian Bing and instructed, ”Hurry up and call them over!”

”Alright, I’ll go right away.” Tian Bing turned and ran out of the yard.

Bai Ruozhu glanced at him. This young man wasn’t bad, enthusiastic and efficient, quite attentive to Su Zhen too.

She had just thought of Su Zhen, and then Su Zhen appeared.

”Master Bai, my grandpa asked me to come and help.” Su Zhen was in high spirits, looking eager to get started.

Bai Ruozhu was also willing to teach her, so she said, ”First, help the children wash their hands and face, and note down the ones with a fever. I’ll prepare the medicine.”

”Okay.” Su Zhen replied happily.

She turned to the kitchen to get hot water, using a wooden basin to wash the children.

Bai Ruozhu pretended to take medicine from the medicine box, but in reality, she fetched some herbal medicine from the space, mashed them in a mortar, and strained the juice.

Once she finished that, Su Zhen also cleaned the children and found five had a fever, though not too severe.

”Apply the medicine on their rashes, just a little bit is enough.” Bai Ruozhu handed the freshly made medicinal juice to Su Zhen.

”Got it.” Su Zhen happily took it. ”What’s in it?”

”I’ll give you the formulas later. I don’t have enough medicinal materials, so you’ll have to fetch some.” Bai Ruozhu smiled at her.

Su Zhen knew Bai Ruozhu intended to teach her, and her smile grew even more heartfelt.

At that moment, Tian Bing called over Niu San and his wife, who happened to see Su Zhen’s smile and were momentarily stunned.

Was this her happiest time?

”What’s wrong with you two? Aren’t you taking care of the child?” Tian Feng emphasized his tone and glared at Niu San.

The couple was truly inconsiderate; their child was sick, yet they didn’t know what to do.

”I want to eat pig’s head meat, I want it!” the girl continued crying, and seeing her parents, she shouted even louder.

Bai Ruozhu quickly glanced at her; it was evident the child wanted to attract her parents’ attention, probably because they usually didn’t care about her.

Niu San lost face today, was in an exceptionally bad mood, and suddenly leaped forward, slapping the girl’s face.

”Eat, eat, eat, you little vixen, always thinking of eating...” He wanted to curse more, but his arm was suddenly held.

Bai Ruozhu hadn’t expected he would hit the child in public, and by the time she reacted, it was too late.

She glared at him and said, ”Can’t you speak properly? Why hit the child? Especially when the child is sick?”

Probably intimidated by Bai Ruozhu’s presence, Niu San’s gaze avoided hers, and his anger was immediately extinguished.

”If the child doesn’t listen, isn’t it always hitting?” he stammered.

Bai Ruozhu became even angrier at hearing this. What does ”always hitting” even mean? That’s child abuse; does he have any sense?

A slap rang out, momentarily stunning everyone in the yard.

”I’ll give you a slap too. How does it feel? If she were a boy, would you call her a vixen and hit her like this?” She slapped again, glaring at Niu San.

Niu San’s wife remained silent, but her face showed a gleeful expression, almost as if she wanted to clap.

Bai Ruozhu suddenly moved, momentarily standing before Niu San’s wife, giving her a slap as well.

”How are you being a mother? Do you even have the face to gloat?” she said coldly.

Niu San’s wife yelped, covering her face, ”I, I didn’t hit the child.”

”As a mother, have you taken good care of the child? Aren’t you embarrassed?” Tian Feng said angrily, seeing her act so justified.

Niu San’s wife suddenly burst into tears, and the little girl who had been crying and fussing became scared, timidly running to her mother’s side.

”How can I take care? Their whole family looks down on me, blames me for having a daughter. Is having a daughter just my fault?” she cried out.

The little girl hugged her mother’s leg and sobbed quietly; this time she didn’t cry loudly, but softly whimpered.

Bai Ruozhu felt a pang in her heart. What kind of situation is this? She longed for a daughter so desperately, yet others despised one.

In farming families, sons are often preferred over daughters because sons represent labor. In the family, men are expected to do farm work. Having daughters means less contribution to farm work, and as they grow older, one needs to prepare dowries, which is why farming families often prefer boys.

”Niuniu, stop crying. It’s your mother who has let you down.” Niu San’s wife picked up the child and looked at Niu San, ”Go home and write divorce papers; I’ll take the child away.”

Bai Ruozhu was somewhat surprised. She had initially thought Niu San’s wife was unfaithful, having affairs with other men, but in the blink of an eye, she was about to leave with her daughter.

Perhaps Zhong Xin saw her leave with another man, but it wasn’t as everyone thought?

Niu San was somewhat taken aback, hesitating for a while before stiffly saying, ”Divorce, let’s divorce. Do you think I don’t dare?”

He turned and left after speaking. Whether he really went to write divorce papers or felt too embarrassed and wanted to avoid, nobody knew.

Niu San’s wife wiped her tears and addressed Bai Ruozhu, ”Thank you for treating Niuniu.”

”Don’t call randomly; this is Master Bai.” Tian Feng reminded her.

”Thank you, Master Bai.” Niu San’s wife calmly replied, showing more composure than an average farm woman.

”Since the village originally arranged for you to look after the children here, why not stay and help, as well as take care of your daughter?” Bai Ruozhu said.

She glanced again at the little girl named Niuniu. It turned out her previous fuss was because she couldn’t see her parents and wanted their attention.

She seemed only about four years old, an age when she needed her parents’ love desperately; thinking about it brought a sense of sorrow.

Finally, the situation was resolved, the children had finished their porridge, and Su Zhen and Tian Bing helped apply medicine on them.

”Master Bai, the medicine is gone,” Su Zhen said.

”Then help go to Luohe City to fetch more. Ask someone to help carry it, perhaps Tian Bing.” Bai Ruozhu smiled at Tian Bing, whose face immediately reddened. This lady was too clever; after meeting them only once, she managed to see through his thoughts.

Su Zhen didn’t think much, immediately agreeing happily.

”Go to the pharmacy of the Medical Alliance, tell them to charge it to my account.” Bai Ruozhu added.

”Alright, thank you, Master Bai.” Su Zhen expressed gratitude.

Tian Feng felt ashamed too. After the incident, Bai Family Shop kept offering help to the sick kids, but they stubbornly refused.

Later, Bai Family Shop sent silver, saying it was most important to treat the children first.

Unfortunately, they didn’t understand Bai Family Shop’s sincerity, delaying the children’s treatment.

At that moment, doctors from the Medical Alliance arrived, respectfully greeting Bai Ruozhu. Bai Ruozhu split them into two groups: one to care for the children, the other to check other kids in the village.

”Examine carefully; even if there is no hand-foot-mouth disease, if there is anything else, we should treat it too.” Bai Ruozhu instructed.
