Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2924: Chapter 2925: The Toothpaste Shop Sued

The women were all pulling Bai Ruozhu to tell stories. They were trapped in the backyard, especially envious of Bai Ruozhu who could go anywhere and meet many unusual people and events.

”You said Fusang people like wearing slippers?” someone asked in surprise. In their impression, slippers were only worn in the rest room.

Bai Ruozhu dipped some tea on the table and began to draw, ”Like this wooden base, the top with a toe-clamping seam in between. They would wear socks and then these wooden slippers.”

The women laughed, all shouting that it was uncomfortable.

”I also find it uncomfortable and thought it would fall off while walking, but it turns out their samurai wear these wooden slippers when facing opponents and they don’t fall off at all,” she said with a smile.

”What about the ninjas over there?” Si Yihuan, knowing more, asked from the side.

”Ninjas generally don’t wear them unless they are disguised as commoners.”

Everyone was talking happily, and Bai Ruozhu got up midway to change clothes, while Mrs. Wu also stood up and said, ”I also want to go, let’s go together.”

”Sure,” Bai Ruozhu smiled at her.

Mrs. Wu walked over affectionately and took her arm. After all, she was Si Yihuan’s second aunt, and according to seniority, Bai Ruozhu’s elder. Although she wasn’t used to being touched by strangers, she couldn’t break free.

”Ruozhu, earlier I spoke a bit harshly, please don’t mind,” Mrs. Wu said sincerely when they were in a place with no one around.

”It’s nothing, Aunt Wu, please don’t say that,” Bai Ruozhu replied.

Mrs. Wu was also straightforward, unabashedly saying, ”Actually, it’s because my family wants to marry into Yihuan’s family. The aunt misunderstood you as looking down on us, but after hearing what you’ve done just now, I know I was being petty.”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but laugh, ”How did Aunt Wu guess it was me who opposed it?”

”Isn’t it because Yihuan didn’t oppose it before, and she changed her mind as soon as you returned?” Mrs. Wu said with a dry laugh.

”Indeed, it was me who opposed, but definitely not out of disdain for the Wu Family. I discussed with Yihuan that the bloodlines of your two families are too close. Close kinship marriage is not good for the health of future generations.” Bai Ruozhu felt that ancient people might not understand this, but she explained it a bit.

Mrs. Wu asked in surprise, ”Is there really such a saying?”

”It’s not absolute, but relatively, they might be weaker. Besides, the kids are still young; who knows who they will like in the future? If they are unwilling then, wouldn’t it damage the relationship between the two families?” Bai Ruozhu said slowly.

Mrs. Wu nodded slightly, seeming to have listened. Bai Ruozhu didn’t expect her to fully understand. She was about to leave, and even if she was resented, it wouldn’t affect her much.

”It’s good to explain, to avoid such misunderstandings,” Mrs. Wu smiled apologetically, ”I was too anxious.”

”The girl is indeed adorable, I didn’t want to let go when I held her. Who knows how many families will be eager to propose marriage in the future,” Bai Ruozhu was not flattering the Wu Family; she had seen the little baby, with good features and demeanor, she would surely grow up to be a great beauty.

The two went to the clean room, returned arm in arm, and everyone understood at a glance. Si Yihuan secretly breathed a sigh of relief, truly afraid that her carelessness would bring trouble to Ruozhu.

At this moment, footsteps were heard from outside. The steward came to report: ”Master Bai, your guard has urgent matters to see you.”

Since she was in the backyard of the Si Residence, and they were all women, Bai Ruozhu didn’t let Jianqi and other dark guards follow. Now Jianqi was seeking her out, indicating that something had happened.

She got up and saluted towards Mrs. Si, ”I’ll go see, don’t let me disturb everyone’s enjoyment.”

Si Yihuan was a bit worried, stood up, and gave the child to her mother, ”I’ll accompany you.”

”Okay.”

The two walked outside hand in hand, Mrs. Si seeing her daughter and niece-in-law getting along so well, revealed a comforting smile.

”Third sister, your Yihuan is fortunate,” Mrs. Wu said.

”She’s just lucky without realizing it. Before, she wouldn’t study music, chess, calligraphy, and painting properly, only focused on culinary arts, and I didn’t know how worried I was. Now, she’s the least worrisome one,” Mrs. Si laughed.

Everyone laughed, agreeing that being able to eat is a blessing, and praised the Bai Family for being kind-hearted, jokingly saying they wished their daughter could marry into the Bai Family, teasing that Mrs. Si caught them off guard.

Bai Ruozhu and Si Yihuan didn’t walk far, her ears were good, and she heard the discussions here, couldn’t help but laugh, her family had only a few males, how could she share with them?

Only Xiaosi was not yet of age, and Xiaowu was even younger than Dengdeng, still early.

The two arrived at the backyard door, Jianqi greeted them with a serious expression.

”Master, there’s been some problem at the Toothpaste Shop, we were jointly accused to the government office,” he said as he handed a letter to Bai Ruozhu.

Si Yihuan was shocked, ”How could this happen?”

Bai Ruozhu wasn’t too anxious, each year there were always a few major incidents to handle, but being jointly accused to the government office was indeed a first.

She opened the letter and read it carefully. It was a problem in a Su Family village near Luohe City, where waterway traffic was developed.

It said that the children in the village used Bai Family toothpaste and got ulcers in their mouths, and some children had a fever that nearly threatened their lives. Hence, the entire village jointly accused the Bai Family Toothpaste Shop.

”Have doctors from the Luohe City Medical Alliance been sent?” Bai Ruozhu frowned, as involving children impacted the future of every family; no wonder the people of Su Family village were so agitated.

But the matter was yet to settle. Why did they conclude it was toothpaste? It seemed the adults were fine, why not suspect food or a plague, the finger pointing seemed too straightforward?

”They’ve been sent, but the villagers are emotional, refusing our doctors, saying they’re afraid the children would be tampered with, also saying they’re afraid the Medical Alliance would silence them,” Jianqi said.

Bai Ruozhu held her forehead, this was a bit troublesome, if the villagers didn’t allow an examination, forcing one would only have a worse impact.

”Send word to seal all the goods in the shop, assign people to watch the warehouse, it must not be tampered with,” Bai Ruozhu said, ”Additionally, give each child ten taels of silver, since they don’t trust us, let them take money to see other doctors.”

Jianqi frowned slightly, ”Master, once money is given, it’s tantamount to admitting fault, outsiders will say we’re paying to resolve the issue quietly, or paying for their silence.”

”We must give it!” Bai Ruozhu raised her voice a bit, ”Is our reputation more important, or the children’s lives? The truth will eventually come out, but the urgent matter is to save the children first!”

Jianqi didn’t expect Bai Ruozhu to be angry, he hastily said, ”Yes, subordinates will send word through the Commerce Association.”

”Luohe City isn’t too far from the Capital City, I’ll hurry over to check it out,” Bai Ruozhu said again.

”Yes.”

Jianqi left the Si Residence to find the Commerce Association, accidentally encountering two people arguing on the road. He had no mood to pay attention to others’ affairs, but the curses reached his ears.
