Chapter 2251: Chapter 2250: Can’t Say It Out Loud

The voice of Fen Jizhi was filled with urgency and worry.

Bai Ruozhu’s eyes widened involuntarily. What was Fen Jizhi up to, rushing over here and asking directly like this? All the secrecy for nothing, completely ruined by this kid.

She suddenly turned back and glared at Fen Jizhi, saying, ”Who’s injured? I’m perfectly fine! The Quanrong Clan people are still cursing me to death, but just because they say so, does that mean I’ll die? Are you that easily fooled?”

Fen Jizhi’s mouth twitched, and he stood there dazed, instantly realizing he had misspoken.

”Oh, I see. It’s probably You Meng and others trying to divert our attention, deliberately saying such things to scare us!” Fen Jizhi quickly explained, trying to salvage the situation.

Lin Ping’er looked at Bai Ruozhu suspiciously, ”Ruozhu’s complexion doesn’t look too good. Could she really be injured and not dare to tell me?”

Bai Ruozhu quickly forced a smile and said, ”Mom, how could that be? Look, I’m in pretty good shape, where don’t I look well? I just had a match with those Quanrong Clan people, and I’m extremely tired. Alright, enough about this, let me rest for a bit. I didn’t get a wink of sleep last night while ambushing outside!”

Eventually, Lin Ping’er, feeling sorry for her daughter, let her go upstairs to sleep.

Before Bai Ruozhu left, she gave Fen Jizhi another fierce glare. Fen Jizhi was almost in tears by the time he left, wondering what on earth this was all about. He only came to check on his comrade and ended up creating a big mess. He didn’t know how Bai Ruozhu would deal with him later!

Meanwhile, Bai Ruozhu found things even more troublesome. After taking a nap and having dinner with her family, she recounted some of their adventures. But soon, Lin Ping’er brought water, saying she would help Bai Ruozhu bathe and scrub her back, claiming it had been a long time since they had a good chat.

Bai Ruozhu inwardly screamed—bathing, wouldn’t her injuries be exposed?

Jiang Yichun, listening from outside, overheard everything and quickly pulled his son aside to whisper, ”Son, it’s up to you to save your mom today. Go and keep your granny occupied, ask her to bathe you and stay with you tonight.”

Little Dengdeng glanced at his dad and said, ”Isn’t that not very nice? I want mom to stay with me.”

Jiang Yichun hurriedly coaxed him, ”This is helping your mom; she’ll love you even more later.”

Little Dengdeng reluctantly nodded and went through the door, saying, ”Granny, it’s been so long since you bathed me or stayed with me. Can you bathe Dengdeng?”

Lin Ping’er, filled with doubt, was unwilling to leave. She patted Dengdeng’s head and said, ”Granny will help your mom scrub her back first, then I’ll bathe you, okay?”

Bai Ruozhu kept signaling her son with her eyes, and Little Dengdeng scratched his head, saying, ”But my mom isn’t a kid; why does she need you to help her bathe? That’s embarrassing!”

Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched; would she ever be willing in the future?

”I’m really sleepy now, I want to go to bed,” Little Dengdeng said, feigning a yawn, ”Granny, I didn’t bathe yesterday. If I fall asleep without bathing, I’ll end up stinking. And I didn’t brush my teeth; mom says I’ll get cavities if I don’t brush my teeth before bed.”

Bai Ruozhu took this chance to add, ”Yes, Mom, I’m really exhausted today, and I don’t have the energy to take care of Little Dengdeng. Please take care of him; I don’t feel like properly washing, just a quick wipe and rest.”

Seeing this, Lin Ping’er had no choice but to take Little Dengdeng away. Little Dengdeng even turned around to wink at his mom, and Bai Ruozhu secretly chuckled, this kid was remarkable, so clever for his age.

Jiang Yichun entered the room, smiled at her, and said, ”Alright, get some rest. Your body needs proper sleep to recover.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded, and slept through the night. By the next morning, she felt a bit better mentally. Jiang Yichun helped change her dressing and rewrapped the bandage before stepping out of the room.

Jianqi, Yizi, Gao Zhou, and the others felt much relieved when they saw her come out.

Lanlan and Chenfeng also came to see her. Bai Ruozhu took a good look at them; Lanlan’s complexion had improved a lot these days, with a healthier glow. Chenfeng’s mood seemed good too, the two of them appeared to be getting along quite well.

”Madam, are Jing Lei and Muyu coming back?” Chenfeng asked. He had already learned from Jianqi that Bai Ruozhu had sent Jing Lei and Muyu back, one to see his wife, the other to get married.

Bai Ruozhu nodded and said, ”Your master entrusted you to me, so you’ll be staying by my side eventually.”

At this moment, Bai Ruozhu noticed that Jiao Ling hasn’t appeared, so she quickly asked, ”Why haven’t I seen aunt?”

Lanlan’s eyes dimmed, and she said with some worry, ”My mother fell ill a few days ago, and Uncle Fen has been taking care of her.”

Bai Ruozhu was startled. She knew Jiao Ling had poor health, but she had been helping her recuperate, so why had she suddenly fallen ill?

”What’s going on? How did Aunt suddenly get sick?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

Lanlan said angrily, ”It’s all because of those Quanrong Clan people. They laid so many land mines at the entrance, killing people. Youngsters from the clan went out to find a way, and Bi Tao was among them. Aunt Wu cried to my mother several times over this matter, then one day, someone mistakenly reported that both Bi Tao and you, Ruozhu, had been caught in a blast from the fire mines...”

Lanlan paused here, seeming to think it was inauspicious to say this, then continued, ”My mother took it seriously and fell ill from the anxiety.”

”Why didn’t you tell me sooner? I would have gone to see her!” Bai Ruozhu complained.

”My mother’s illness stems from her heart; knowing you and Bi Tao are safe has already improved her condition significantly. You were so exhausted yesterday, we didn’t want to burden you with more worries. Let me take you to see her now,” Lanlan suggested.

With that, Bai Ruozhu went with Lanlan to see Jiao Ling and found Fen Jiu by her side as well. After paying her respects to both, she meticulously checked Jiao Ling’s pulse and health. Indeed, Jiao Ling’s condition was similar to before, without much change, but due to excessive grief and mental disturbance, she had fallen ill, and now there were signs of improvement.

Fen Jiu laughed and said beside them, ”See, you weren’t calm enough; just look, Ruozhu and the others are alright. The youngsters will mock you for this.”

Jiao Ling gave an embarrassed smile and said, ”I was just too anxious for a moment. It’s alright now.”

Bai Ruozhu prescribed some medicine for Jiao Ling, and then went back to rest; her own injuries also required recovery. Once she recovered a bit, she needed to concoct an antidote to dissolve the fire mines, so the clan could remove the threat outside as soon as possible.

In a blink of an eye, three days had passed since she returned to the Jiuli Clan, but in those three days, she hadn’t seen Fen Cheng. She was a bit worried about Fen Cheng’s situation and wanted to visit the Peach Forest, yet felt unable to bring it up with Jiang Yichun. It wasn’t about feeling guilty, just a sense of awkwardness that kept her from saying it.
