Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2289: Chapter 2288: Overbearing Force

The four of them came out of the Beauty Pavilion, all glowing with radiance. Fo Lanying kept clamoring to go back again, saying her skin was the roughest and needed a good care.

”Where is it rough? Yours is a healthy beauty.” Yuan Licheng mumbled quietly from behind.

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but burst out laughing. Indeed, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder; Yuan Licheng is truly smitten with Fo Lanying. Although he is a member of the Quanrong clan, given the current unfavorable situation of the Quanrong, him traveling around with Fo Lanying is quite a fortunate thing.

Fo Lanying turned around and glared at him, saying angrily, ”Some things you should just say to me privately, why say it on the street, aren’t you afraid of being laughed at?”

Yuan Licheng chuckled foolishly, ”I’m speaking the truth, no fear of being laughed at.”

Bai Ruozhu this time managed to hold back, otherwise she would have laughed till she fell over. Watching Fo Lanying who was both frustrated and blushing, with tenderness hiding in her eyes, was particularly amusing.

”Ruozhu, we meet again.” An abrupt voice sounded, and Du Zhongshu in white suddenly appeared in front of Bai Ruozhu.

”Oh, it’s Lord Du, I’m honored.” Bai Ruozhu cupped her hand and performed a formal salute, appearing courteous yet distant.

Du Zhongshu showed a look of disappointment, took a gift box from the hand of a servant beside him, and said, ”This is my gift of apology to you. I saw it in a shop just now and thought it particularly suited you, originally I was thinking of sending it to your residence tomorrow, but didn’t expect to just run into you here.”

As he spoke, he opened the box, revealing inside a set of head adornments with silver-inlaid white jade, very elegant in style and plain in color, which was indeed Bai Ruozhu’s taste.

”I don’t know whether you like it or not. If you don’t, I’ll go change it now.” Du Zhongshu said cautiously.

Bai Ruozhu frowned slightly, not only did she not accept the gift box, she even stepped back a little.

”Lord Du, there’s no need for such courtesy; apologies are unnecessary, why even bother returning the favor? The item is nice, but Bai wouldn’t dare to trouble Lord Du. Please take it back.” Bai Ruozhu remained very courteous.

”If you don’t want it, I can only throw it away. What would a man like me take it back for?” Du Zhongshu said seemingly a bit petulantly.

Bai Ruozhu secretly curled her lip, ”Surely there are women in your residence? Don’t you have a sister? Do not forget about them, I have things to do, so I’ll take my leave.”

She then quickly took Si Yihuan’s hand and walked forward swiftly, as Fo Lanying and Yizi sized up Du Zhongshu a few times and quickly followed.

By evening, when Jiang Yichun returned, he asked about the matter.

”Didn’t I decline it? Do I look like someone who’s never seen nice things, accepting any gift given to me?” Bai Ruozhu glared, ”How did you hear of it this time? Did Yuan Licheng tell you?”

Thinking about it, it could only have been Yuan Licheng, that rascal.

”No, I heard it from outside, just haven’t heard you actually declined it. People are saying Lord Du’s gift of apology to you was valuable and sincere.” Jiang Yichun said.

His look was not of jealousy but pondering; Bai Ruozhu thought for a moment, and couldn’t help but squint her eyes, ”Do you think someone is spreading the news behind the scenes? Otherwise, it seems too coincidental that Du Zhongshu and I would meet twice in places seldom crowded, yet it spreads widely, must be manipulated.”

Jiang Yichun nodded, ”The first time was accurate in words, but the second time deviated; no one said you refused the gift. Those unaware might think you accepted it.”

”Is he playing mind games, trying to tarnish my reputation through rumors?” Bai Ruozhu laughed coldly. A king from a different clan continuously showing favor to a married woman, repeatedly gifting—if it spreads, people might say what?

Especially since they were once partners and even turned stark adversaries. At most, the crowd would call the outsider king foolish, but they wouldn’t condemn him much.

But mentioning the married woman, it would surely be unpleasant. In any era, women are held to stricter standards, even more so in this conservative ancient time.

”I will arrange for someone to spread the truth, I won’t let him succeed.” Jiang Yichun said.

Bai Ruozhu’s lips curved slightly, ”There’s no need to go through that trouble, I have my own way.”

”What way?” Jiang Yichun suddenly imagined Bai Ruozhu beating Du Zhongshu on the street, whereas he crawled on the ground like a dog; the more he thought about it, the more satisfied he felt.

”You’ll know by then; just wait to see the good show I arrange.” Bai Ruozhu smiled like a fox, making Jiang Yichun unable to resist pinching her nose, wanting to blow out the candle, Bai Ruozhu quickly pushed him, complaining, ”No fooling around tonight, I’m dead tired.”

Jiang Yichun chuckled lightly, ”I haven’t even done anything yet, unless it’s what you assumed yourself?”

Bai Ruozhu blushed, ”If you keep this up, I’ll let you sleep in the guest room!”

”Near the guest room, isn’t there a woman playing the zither every day? Would you really trust your husband to go there?” Jiang Yichun said and then blew out the candle, pressing onto his wife...

Meanwhile, in another room, Si Yihuan asked the maid to take away the washbasin and reached out to help Bai Zepei take off his outer garment, hanging it aside.

”Were you tired today?” she asked softly.

”Mm.” Bai Zepei responded coldly, he had been behaving like this these past days, causing Si Yihuan quite a bit of heartache, but today, following Ruozhu’s hint, Si Yihuan felt she should change tactics.

She suddenly hugged Bai Zepei from behind, acting a bit coquettish, ”Husband, please don’t be mad at me anymore, tomorrow I’ll drive that woman from the Lao Family out; didn’t you say we are a family, and should always stick together?”

Bai Zepei felt the soft touch on his back, his heart suddenly warmed. Because of their recent quarrel, he hadn’t touched his little woman, and he was feeling quite pent-up.

He immediately scooped Si Yihuan over, pinning her to the bedpost, asking, ”Dare you mess around with women again?”

”What do you mean ’mess around with women’? I don’t even like women.” Si Yihuan laughed playfully, she knew this tactic works best on Bai Zepei.

”Don’t try to fool me, if you dare mess around again, I’ll tan your hide!” He said and raised his hand, with a slap genuinely hitting Si Yihuan’s derrière, though through the clothes, it was a firm smack, making Si Yihuan’s face instantly flush red like a ripe apple.

Bai Zepei suddenly became interested, thinking the feel was quite good, and directly tossed his disobedient little woman onto the bed, spanking her until Si Yihuan was flushed, pleading incessantly, wishing she could find a hole to hide in.

Luckily the Bai Family doesn’t have a habit of keeping maids on night duty, or truly tomorrow would be too embarrassing to face anyone!
