Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2290: Chapter 2289: Reciprocity

At the moment of entry, Si Yihuan suddenly furrowed her brow and couldn’t help but cry out in pain.

”What’s wrong?” Bai Zepei asked worriedly.

”Be gentler.” Si Yihuan’s voice was so soft it was like a mosquito’s buzz.

Bai Zepei restrained his fervor and softened his actions significantly, stopping Si Yihuan’s cries of pain.

Early the next morning, Bai Ruozhu noticed her second sister-in-law’s complexion was different from the day before and immediately beamed with joy, saying, ”Second sister-in-law, the method I taught you worked, right?”

Si Yihuan blushed, gently tapped Bai Ruozhu, and said, ”Don’t always bully me, or I’ll complain to your second brother.”

”See, they must have reconciled, now there’s someone backing her.” Bai Ruozhu laughed heartily.

Si Yihuan, embarrassed by her words, was relieved that all the maids had been sent away.

”Ruozhu, can you check my pulse later? I felt something during that time, something...” Si Yihuan was too shy to say it out loud, but she felt even more reluctant to find a doctor outside, especially since many gynecologists are men these days.

”Itchy? Painful?” Bai Ruozhu, being a doctor, wasn’t embarrassed at all.

”Not itchy, just a bit painful.” Si Yihuan’s face turned red and her voice was as soft as a mosquito’s buzz.

Bai Ruozhu hurriedly checked her pulse, finding no physical issues, and after pondering said, ”Some women show these symptoms when they just conceive, but because it’s too early, a doctor can’t detect a pregnancy pulse. I can’t be sure yet, we’d have to wait some days, but you and Second Brother have to stop fooling around.”

”What? Are you saying I’m pregnant?” Si Yihuan exclaimed, covering her mouth, looking like she was about to laugh and cry.

”Calm down, I’m not sure yet, at least wait another seven or eight days, don’t get excited too early, otherwise it’ll be my fault if it’s not the case.” Bai Ruozhu pulled her back to sit down.

Si Yihuan quickly nodded, ”I know, I’ll be careful, this matter can’t be taken lightly.”

Due to Si Yihuan’s possible pregnancy, the original travel plans were canceled, and Bai Ruozhu had someone send a message to Fo Lanying and Yizi, saying she would take them to Yingkelai for lunch.

”I told your second brother that we should send the Lao Family daughter away, what do you think is a good excuse?” Si Yihuan asked, somewhat worried.

”You don’t have to worry, leave it to me.” Bai Ruozhu grinned mischievously, as someone tried to tarnish her reputation, she might as well tarnish it herself.

”Isn’t it bad? What if the Lao Family hates you?” Si Yihuan asked worriedly.

Bai Ruozhu rolled her eyes, ”Would I fear the Lao Family? If they dare challenge the Bai Family’s customs, they should be prepared to face the consequences. Don’t worry about it, just take good care of yourself these days, pregnant or not.”

”Alright, I’ll listen to you.” Si Yihuan agreed.

As the sun fully rose and more pedestrians appeared on the streets, Bai Ruozhu called Jianqi, Fo Lanying, and Yuan Licheng over and instructed them.

”Jianqi, hide in the dark. If they make a move, then you show up. Fo Lanying and Yuan Licheng, talk to them. If they refuse to agree, just say: ’Our lady said there’s no courtesy without reciprocity,’ then turn and leave. Make sure enough people witness this, Yuan Licheng, help let more people hear your conversation, maybe use a minor array or something.”

”Alright, I got it.” Fo Lanying listened and got excited, she’s best suited for mischief.

Yuan Licheng, a bit worried, asked, ”What if the woman is unwilling to cause a scene?”

Bai Ruozhu chuckled, ”Whether she’s willing or not isn’t up to her, what am I here for?”

”Exactly, think about Ruozhu’s expertise in poison, foolish!” Fo Lanying said frankly.

Yuan Licheng didn’t mind, and rather enjoyed Fo Lanying’s fierce talk, smiling, ”I understand.”

Then Bai Ruozhu led them to Lao Wan’s yard, and as they got closer, the sound of the zither was heard.

”Playing every day, aren’t her fingers afraid of breaking?” Bai Ruozhu muttered.

She had no fondness for Lao Wan, first because the woman’s values were wrong; appreciating a talented person but knowing he’s married and the family doesn’t accept concubines, she shouldn’t cling to him, no matter what she says about being devoted to him, it can’t hide her ulterior motives.

Second, because the Court’s strife had reached her family, wrecking her second brother and sister-in-law’s relationship, how could she stand it?

Of course, she wouldn’t sympathize with Lao Wan being caught in a situation; that’s the mindset of her birth mother Bai Lianhe, not something Bai Ruozhu could do.

Noticing Bai Ruozhu and the others’ arrival, Lao Wan quickly stopped playing and rose to greet them.

”Lao Wan greets the lady.”

Even Fo Lanying admired the elegance in her actions, realising even after years of practice, she wouldn’t achieve such composure.

But she sneaked a glance at Yuan Licheng, finding him filled with disdain, believing Lao Wan’s demeanor was pretentious and distasteful.

Fo Lanying felt delighted inside, though she was brash, Yuan Licheng preferred her that way.

”I’m here to take you somewhere, being a concubine offers little future, but if you become a princess, your life would change.” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile.

Lao Wan was shocked, ”I’m the second young master’s person, I’m not going anywhere.”

Bai Ruozhu narrowed her eyes, ”That’s not up to you!”

She reached over and patted Lao Wan’s shoulder, making her dazed and compliant, and she obediently walked outside.

Lao Wan’s maid was shocked, about to scream, but Bai Ruozhu flicked her fingertips, sending a pill into the maid’s mouth, causing her to follow Lao Wan outside in a daze.

Yuan Licheng clicked his tongue, ”Your skills in poison are remarkable.”

Bai Ruozhu smiled, ”They don’t have any martial arts or inner strength, so it’s easy to poison them. If faced with an expert with strong inner strength, it wouldn’t be so simple. Alright, the rest is up to you, it’s not convenient for me to show up.”

”Alright, I’ll handle it properly!” Fo Lanying declared, patting her chest.

Then Fo Lanying and Yuan Licheng led Lao Wan and her maid to the main gate of Bai Residence, where Lao Wan was placed in a flower sedan chair carried by two cheerful men.

Fo Lanying signaled, and the musicians hired by the steward played their suona, following the sedan chair towards City South.

People love a spectacle, whether it’s a wedding or a daughter’s send-off—they might not get to drink wedding wine, but seeing the bustle and catching the happy vibe is delightful.

So soon enough it attracted plenty of passersby, but then they noticed a problem: where was the groom for the bride being sent off?

A pedestrian suddenly smacked his head and exclaimed, ”I know, isn’t this someone sending a concubine, not a wife?”
