Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2270: Chapter 2269: Take Me Home

When Bai Ruozhu left with Fo Lanying and the others, Fo Lanying was still somewhat dissatisfied and asked, ”We’re letting her off so easily? I think that elder monk is speaking out of turn with all his talk about charity. Being lenient with such cruel and heartless sinners is being cruel to innocent people.”

Bai Ruozhu smiled and said, ”I haven’t let her off. Sometimes living is more painful than death. Killing her with a single strike would be letting her off too easily.”

”The master must have poisoned her; you just can’t see it,” Yizi giggled, laughing like a little mouse.

Fo Lanying became interested, ”What poison? Ruozhu, tell us quickly.”

”She touched Achun’s arm, so her arm won’t recover well. As for her foul mouth, it should blister and ooze occasionally. But these poisons only cause superficial wounds and won’t harm the child in her belly,” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile.

”Humph, that child is You Meng’s illegitimate seed. Letting it live would be a disaster,” Fo Lanying said unhappily.

”We shouldn’t worry. Once the child grows up, their main concern should be reclaiming power in the Quanrong, right? Besides, don’t you think it’s better for Zhu Ning to experience the pain of childbirth?” Bai Ruozhu said.

Yizi looked confused, ”Is childbirth painful? More painful than being poisoned?”

Bai Ruozhu was at a loss for words. How had she forgotten that these two were unmarried young women and couldn’t understand such things? She decided not to explain further to avoid casting a shadow on their hearts before they got married.

Later, Bai Ruozhu returned to continue accompanying Jiang Yichun, and Fo Lanying kept provoking Jianqi through Yuan Licheng. In the blink of an eye, five days passed, and Master Pudeng said Bai Ruozhu’s curse was lifted.

Bai Ruozhu noticed he seemed more aged than before, looking very fatigued, and couldn’t help but ask, ”Master, haven’t you rested well? Why do you seem unwell?”

Master Pudeng smiled slightly, saying, ”Lifting the curse takes a toll on one’s spirit. A few days of rest will suffice.”

”Thank you, Master. And what about Achun’s eyes?” Bai Ruozhu respectfully bowed to him. In terms of lifting curses, Bai Ruozhu was sincerely grateful to Master Pudeng.

”He should be able to see some shadows now. In three more days, he will be fine.” Master Pudeng said with a sigh, ”He is not the first to get hurt by watching me chant scriptures. Many used to say I was using demon techniques, and I was chased and beaten like a rat in the street.”

Bai Ruozhu’s interest was piqued; so Master Pudeng, such a high-ranking person, also had a dark history.

”Later, as time went by, people slowly believed I wasn’t a demon. It’s just that watching me chant scriptures is not advisable.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”We were reckless that day as well. Thank you for not blaming us, Master.”

”Rest for another three days before setting off,” Pudeng said, closing his eyes.

Bai Ruozhu bowed and left. Halfway there, she suddenly remembered she had forgotten something. Didn’t Master Pudeng say her soul was unstable and could easily be taken by those with ill intentions? The solution was to nourish the soul, but when she asked how, Master Pudeng said he would explain it slowly after lifting the curse.

Thinking of this, Bai Ruozhu turned back. From a distance, she saw Pu Zhu in the Main Hall, standing beside Pudeng, looking somewhat agitated.

Bai Ruozhu stopped in her tracks, quickly hiding in the Space. She didn’t have the confidence not to be discovered by Master Pudeng if she stood outside.

”Junior Brother, don’t you always say your end is near? Why do you still expend cultivation base and life to help others? I know you’re selfless, but you must consider the Temple, too. If you just leave, I can’t manage such a large Temple!” Pu Zhu spoke with a choked voice.

”This is karma. You were saved by others—that’s the cause, and now protecting You Meng’s posthumous child is the effect. Bai Ruozhu letting Zhu Ning go is the cause, and that consequence must be repaid by me for the Temple,” Pudeng said slowly.

”Without that secret method, the curse she has would be lifted in two or three years. Why sacrifice your life for it?” Pu Zhu asked in disagreement.

Pudeng shook his head, ”The curse would be lifted in two or three years, but if she has children in the meantime, it’s highly likely they would inherit the merfolk bloodline. Those two young people have had a hard enough life. I’m already old, and I should soon meet the Buddha.”

Bai Ruozhu, within the Space, shivered. She had clearly seen and heard everything on the ”big screen”; it turns out Pudeng’s sudden aging was because he helped her!

For a moment, her heart ached unbearably. Pudeng, as Gao Zhou said, selflessly assisted others, even without wanting his help known. She had even doubted Pudeng before and had spoken somewhat impolitely because of Zhu Ning, yet he had used his life to assist her.

Bai Ruozhu felt her heart was stifled. She wasn’t someone who didn’t know how to be grateful, but how should she repay Master Pudeng?

”When I pass away, don’t disturb my bones. I’ve arranged for someone to take me back to my hometown. My Buddhist relics will stay in the Temple, ensuring a hundred years of peace for the Temple,” Pudeng said slowly.

”Okay.”

”Senior Brother, you should get back to work. Thank you for these years.”

Pu Zhu sighed deeply, saying nothing more. As he left, his eyes were red. Bai Ruozhu adjusted her emotions within the Space before exiting the Space.

”Come over, how much did you hear?” Pudeng’s voice suddenly rang out.

Bai Ruozhu was shocked. Even after entering the Space, had Pudeng discovered her?

”Monk can’t figure out how you appeared out of nowhere?” Pudeng’s eyes, often as calm as an ancient well, now carried a trace of curiosity, showing a rare emotion.

”Uh, I jumped down from the tree,” Bai Ruozhu quickly came up with an excuse.

”Haha, Amitabha,” Pudeng laughed, clearly not believing Bai Ruozhu’s explanation, but he didn’t press further.

Bai Ruozhu bowed reverently, this time with tenfold respect.

”Thank you for rescuing me, Master.”

”No need to thank me. Even if I hadn’t helped, you would eventually find another way,” Pudeng said calmly.

Bai Ruozhu didn’t know what to say for a moment. Pudeng stood up and asked, ”You’ve come to inquire about nourishing the soul, right?”

”Indeed,” Bai Ruozhu nodded respectfully.

”My assistance is not entirely without expectation of return,” Pudeng suddenly smiled. Bai Ruozhu hurriedly said, ”Master, feel free to ask anything of me.”

Just for the other party sacrificing their life to help lift her curse, she should do something in return.

”After I pass away, take my skeleton away without anyone seeing. I know you have that ability, and if you ever have the chance, return my remains to my homeland,” Pudeng said.

”Where is your homeland?” Bai Ruozhu’s heart grew heavy. Pudeng had said earlier they should leave after three days and now instructed her to take his remains, meaning he had long foreseen his end would be in these three days.

Pudeng’s clear eyes suddenly showed bewilderment. He looked into the distance, lost in thought for a long time before quietly saying, ”I don’t know.”
