Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2264: Chapter 2263: Venerable Monk of Great Virtue

”I’ve had enough of your green veggies and radishes, I want roast chicken, or else how can I protect the baby?” Zhu Ning shouted again, completely indifferent to anyone else hearing her.

Pu Zhu’s face darkened, ”Zhu benefactor, don’t make things difficult for others. If I hadn’t been entrusted with this, I wouldn’t be involved in this mess. Do you know who’s staying in the backyard?”

Zhu Ning looked unconcerned, ”Who could it be? What does it have to do with me? Don’t talk nonsense with me, I want roast chicken! And also find me some scar-removing medicine, how else can I face people with these scars on my face?”

The young monk who arrived together with the abbot muttered under his breath, ”You don’t need to meet anyone in the first place, what’s a bit of scar? Besides, you can’t use medication recklessly while pregnant, what if you miscarry?”

Zhu Ning suddenly picked up a cup beside her and threw it at the young monk, ”Who do you think you are? What qualifies you to talk to me like that? Get out of here!”

This time, the cup didn’t break when it hit the ground, making a dull sound. Bai Ruozhu looked closely and found it was a wooden cup, its craftsmanship seemed rather rough, possibly newly made.

It seemed Zhu Ning had broken quite a few items, so the temple had no choice but to give her a wooden teacup.

She wasn’t even afraid of splinters in her mouth, making such a fuss. However, from this incident one can see Zhu Ning’s character, it’s no wonder she betrayed and plotted against her clansmen over a minor argument back then.

”If Zhu benefactor insists on acting recklessly, this monk will have someone knock you out and confine you each day.” The abbot said with a stern face.

Zhu Ning glared at him angrily, as if wishing to poke holes in him, ”You’re a monk, how can you treat a pregnant woman like this?”

”As long as Zhu benefactor remains peaceful, you will continue to be an honored guest of this temple.” Pu Zhu lowered his eyelids, looking very tired of Zhu Ning, ”Also, a female benefactor surnamed Bai has come to the temple, if you don’t want to die, stay calm.”

”Bai Ruozhu?” Zhu Ning widened her eyes, her eyes filled with hatred.

”Benefactor, take care of yourself.” Pu Zhu finished, folded his hands in a Buddhist gesture, recited a Buddhist phrase, and left the room.

This time Zhu Ning didn’t continue to make a fuss, silently sitting on the bed, lost in thought.

Jiang Yichun squinted his eyes, ”This woman is not easy to deal with. Even at this point, she might still be plotting something against you.”

Bai Ruozhu sneered, ”Does she have the capability?”

”Don’t underestimate such sinister people, they can resort to any despicable means.” Jiang Yichun said.

Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”You’re right, we should stay cautious.”

After a while, Zhu Ning blew out the candle, lay down on the bed with her clothes on, and Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun couldn’t see anything more, so they left the space and quietly returned to their room.

Nothing more happened that night. Early the next morning, the two quickly informed Gao Zhou of their discovery. Gao Zhou was shocked and quickly said, ”Master Pudeng probably doesn’t know about this; his character is absolutely trustworthy.”

Bai Ruozhu sized him up with a scrutinizing look, ”Why?”

”You haven’t interacted with him much, you don’t understand that he’s the kind of selfless monk who would sacrifice himself for others, even for people unrelated to him.” Gao Zhou shook his head, ”Back when I was being hunted by enemies, poisoned by a severe poison, and fell into a valley. Master Pudeng, who was collecting herbs, happened to save me, there was no one else around at the time. He had no reason to put on a show for fame, yet he used the secret method to absorb the severe poison from me, allowing me to survive, while the poison transferred to him.”

Gao Zhou’s eyes reddened as he spoke, ”In my life, there are very few people I truly admire, but he is one of them. At the time, he didn’t even leave his name, dragging his poisoned body away. I thought I would never get to repay him in this life, only to meet him again a few years later.”

”During that encounter, he was praying for the people, jumping into the raging flood to help build dykes, getting himself bruised all over by the debris rushing down. And he wouldn’t eat or drink, giving all his saved rations to the children in the flooded area. These acts are countless, and that’s why his health is so poor, in fact, he is a year younger than Abbot Pu Zhu.”

Bai Ruozhu had always thought Master Pudeng was Abbot Pu Zhu’s senior brother, at least ten years older than him.

After hearing Gao Zhou’s words, all doubts about Pudeng vanished. Gao Zhou was a shrewd person, he wouldn’t fail to see through Pudeng’s true character over the years, the fact that he respects him so much shows that Pudeng is indeed a virtuous high monk.

”Then it must be Pu Zhu with issues. We should still be cautious.” Jiang Yichun said.

At this moment, footsteps came from outside the room, ”Benefactor Gao, two benefactors have come to see Benefactor Bai, one calls himself Jianqi.”

Bai Ruozhu was pleased to hear this, Jianqi and Yizi were here. She eagerly opened the door, ”Where are they?”

”The little monk didn’t know if you were acquainted, so let them wait in the outer hall.” The young monk said.

Bai Ruozhu squinted her eyes at the young monk, recognizing him as the very same monk Zhu Ning had scolded last night.

”Thank you, young master. Please lead the way.” Bai Ruozhu said politely.

”Alright, this way please.” The young monk made a gesture to show the way.

Bai Ruozhu discreetly signaled Jiang Yichun, indicating they should not follow, as she intended to ask the young monk some questions without raising suspicion.

Generally, secrets aren’t about not being told, but about not saying them in a crowd. If Jiang Yichun and Gao Zhou followed, the young monk wouldn’t dare say anything.

Gao Zhou and Jiang Yichun understood and didn’t follow. If they all went to receive Jianqi and Yizi, it would seem a bit odd.

”What should I call you, young master?” Bai Ruozhu took the opportunity to chat with the young monk.

”This monk is Hou An.” The young monk replied.

”There don’t seem to be many monks here in your temple. I’ve seen you managing everything here and there, it must be hard work.” Bai Ruozhu said softly.

The young monk thought of the recent troubling matters and couldn’t help but sigh, ”There’s no choice, I’m the lowest in rank and joined the latest. Hopefully it’ll get better once there are junior brothers.”

”By the way, there was a sudden noise at midnight last night, wasn’t there a thief in the temple?” Bai Ruozhu steered the conversation to the critical point.

The young monk tensed up, lowered his gaze, and said, ”I got up at night to get some water and bumped into a chair, I apologize for disturbing your rest.”

”Impossible!” Bai Ruozhu exclaimed, ”I remember you live in the front Buddha Hall, but the sound came from the guest room. Aren’t you hiding something, young master? Could it be that you’ve captured some innocent women and children here for trafficking?”

The young monk’s face turned extremely unsightly, and he said angrily, ”Benefactor, don’t let your thoughts run wild, our Xinchan Temple has always been upright, there’s no such thing!”
