Chapter 2254: Chapter 2253: Ruolan Is Gone

The two returned to the Diaojiao Building, exhausted. Lanlan was still in a coma, but Gao Zhou had already checked her pulse and confirmed that her body was fine. However, since she hadn’t awakened yet, was she still the same Lanlan? Would Wu Wanqing take over her body again? No one knew for sure.

Jiao Ling didn’t dare rest, she kept her eyes wide open, staring at Lanlan. Her body had just recovered; the exhaustion, coupled with the emotional turmoil, made her face as pale as paper. Bai Ruozhu wanted to persuade Jiao Ling to rest, but she knew it would be useless because what Jiao Ling was most worried about was Lanlan.

Bai Ruozhu silently prayed in her heart, hoping that Lanlan could get through this crisis and live a stable and happy life henceforth.

She couldn’t help but think of her cousin Ruolan, wondering if her soul still existed. But in terms of affection, her heart was already leaning towards Lanlan.

The Phoenix Poisonous Insect couldn’t be left unchecked. Bai Ruozhu went to see the Su Clan Leader and told him the whole situation. The Su Clan Leader immediately arranged for several people to search the Back Mountain, but he mainly sent experts from the Wei Hall, grouped in threes, since a trio could form a barrier to defend against the Phoenix Poisonous Insect’s attacks. Otherwise, if someone went alone and the Phoenix Poisonous Insect burrowed into them, controlling their thoughts, what then?

The Jiuli Clan could no longer bear the emergence of another Gufeng.

Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun didn’t go to the Back Mountain again but stayed at home with Lanlan. Fortunately, by the following morning, Lanlan finally woke up.

She looked pale and somewhat dazed. Jiao Ling hurriedly grabbed her hand and asked, ”Lanlan, how are you? Do you feel unwell anywhere?”

The morning breeze also leaned in to ask with concern, ”Is there anywhere else that hurts?”

Seeing everyone gathered around her, Lanlan felt somewhat embarrassed. She shook her head slightly, then suddenly clutched her head and said, ”My head still hurts a bit, but not as severely as before. What happened to me? I don’t remember anything at all; I just feel that my head aches.”

”The Phoenix Poisonous Insect flew out of your mouth; it’s now left your body,” Jiao Ling said.

Lanlan’s eyes widened, then she showed a look of delight, ”That strange bug is finally off me, that’s a good thing. Why are you all gloomy-faced?”

Fen Jiu gave Jiao Ling a look and said to Lanlan, ”Now that you’re awake, your mother has nothing to worry about. Everything’s fine.”

Bai Ruozhu checked Lanlan’s body again and secretly observed her expression because of the earlier incident where Wu Wanqing awoke and posed as Lanlan. She wanted to make sure if this was truly Lanlan or Wu Wanqing.

But meeting those clear and bright eyes, Bai Ruozhu felt assured that this should be Lanlan. No matter how Wu Wanqing pretended, she couldn’t make her eyes so clear and bright.

Lanlan, after waking for a while, felt tired again and lay down to rest. Seeing she was alright, everyone left her room. Fen Jiu also persuaded Jiao Ling to rest, and she finally went away to rest, only to fall ill again upon lying down.

Bai Ruozhu prescribed medicine for both Lanlan and Jiao Ling, but she ended up focusing so much on tending to the sick that she spent less time with the three children.

Faced with Bengbeng and Tiaotiao, she felt deeply guilty, as they were the ones she spent the least time with. If she left again and returned later, they probably wouldn’t recognize her as their mother anymore.

Bai Ruozhu felt somewhat heartbroken at the thought, but she equally didn’t want the children to lack fatherly love, nor did she want to lose Achun.

After three or four days, Jiao Ling’s health improved, and seeing Lanlan well, her mood lightened considerably.

The search in the Back Mountain continued, but no one had seen the golden Phoenix Poisonous Insect, nor did they know where it flew to, or even find tracks it left behind.

The Phoenix Poisonous Insect was very small, only the size of a cicada, making it hard to leave any trace. Moreover, it seemed not to have harmed any creatures on the mountain, thus making it extremely difficult to find.

Additionally, whenever the search party returned, several elders would check their bodies to ensure they weren’t possessed by the Phoenix Poisonous Insect.

The Phoenix Poisonous Insect was so small that if it hid deep in the mountains, it was indeed hard to find. Furthermore, the Jiuli Clan was not impervious, and the Phoenix Poisonous Insect was a strange creature; if it broke through the barrier and flew away, it would be unsurprising.

A few days later, Lanlan’s condition improved significantly; she had more smiles on her face and started to play mischievously with the morning breeze.

One night, Lanlan suddenly woke up crying loudly, startling everyone in the building. Jiao Ling was the first to rush over, and Bai Ruozhu hurriedly put on her outer garments and ran over too.

”Lanlan, what’s wrong?” Jiao Ling rushed over and hugged her daughter, asking worriedly.

Lanlan was already a crying mess. Instead of answering her mother’s question, she looked at Bai Ruozhu and said, ”Sister Ruozhu, I’m sorry. Turns out Sister Ruolan is still alive; she has been inside this body all along!”

Bai Ruozhu was stunned for a moment. She had considered this possibility but never genuinely confronted it, nor thought about how to face it if it were true.

Lanlan continued to cry, saying, ”But because I came in, I occupied the body. With the Phoenix Poisonous Insect and Wu Wanqing gone, she said she couldn’t stay any longer. She just bid farewell to me and wanted me to thank all of you.”

”Where did she go?” Bai Ruozhu asked anxiously.

Lanlan cried and said, ”I don’t know; she just said she had to leave, then drifted away like a light dot.”

Jiao Ling hurriedly said, ”Ruolan must have gone to be reincarnated. Don’t think too much about it. That child suffered so much; if she can reincarnate into a good family and start a new life, it’s also a good thing.”

Jiao Ling cared for her daughter and didn’t want Lanlan to bear a psychological burden because of this.

Bai Ruozhu sighed. She didn’t feel Lanlan had done anything wrong; these were all coincidences that allowed Lanlan to resurrect on Ruolan’s body. Just like her transmigration allowed her to live again on Bai Ruozhu’s body.

She patted Lanlan’s shoulder gently and said, ”These are all fated by heaven, unrelated to you. You haven’t wronged me, nor Ruolan. If we count it, it’s Wu Wanqing who wronged her; she was hurt by her parents and Wu Wanqing.”

Lanlan continued to cry. Pure and kind, she said amidst her sobs, ”If I’d left then, she could have stayed. This body originally belonged to her, and I stole it.”

The morning breeze beside her frowned, unsure how to console her. Jiao Ling looked at Bai Ruozhu, equally at a loss. After all, Bai Ruolan was a relative of the Bai Family, and everyone sympathized with her plight.

Bai Ruozhu sighed, knowing she might be the most suitable person to speak.

”Do you know why Ruolan ended up this way? Initially, she had a death wish because her parents and grandmother were like that. In this world, she had nothing left to care for, and life was too difficult.”
