Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2258: Chapter 2257: It’s His Fault

Additionally, the master Gao Zhou knows lives along the road to the Capital City. As they pass by, they can seek his help to lift Bai Ruozhu’s curse.

The group rode quickly, making good time, but soon ran into trouble. Yuan Licheng, for reasons unknown, called Jiang Yichun aside for a competition. He insisted on a life-and-death duel, and Jiang Yichun, not being the type to tolerate provocation, could not hold back.

The two of them began to fight. Yuan Licheng was skilled in arrays, and his inner strength was formidable as well. Jiang Yichun’s swordsman techniques were exceptional, and combined with the merfolk water control methods he recently mastered, he quickly gained the upper hand.

Yizi watched with bright eyes, learning much from Yuan Licheng’s arrays.

Bai Ruozhu and Fo Lanying arrived at the commotion just as Jiang Yichun had won. Seeing Fo Lanying, Yuan Licheng’s eyes showed a hint of desolation, and he clutched his chest, falling to the ground.

Seeing the blood at the corners of his mouth, Bai Ruozhu realized he had sustained an internal injury. She glared at Jiang Yichun and said, ”We still have a journey ahead. Why fight like this? Was it necessary to be so serious in a simple competition?”

Jiang Yichun felt a bit wronged and said, ”He challenged me. Could I possibly not fight back?”

Bai Ruozhu found it strange. Yuan Licheng was of the Quanrong Clan; shouldn’t he harbor hatred for the Jiuli Clan instead? Jiang Yichun wasn’t a Jiuli. Why challenge him to a duel?

Yuan Licheng didn’t explain, merely snorted and said, ”I accept defeat. I’ll come back to challenge you when I’ve improved my skills.”

Fo Lanying, feeling vexed, glared at him and said, ”Why can’t you just focus on the road? Why all the fighting? If you’re always looking for a fight, just leave. No one wants you here!”

Yuan Licheng’s eyes dimmed, ”Is that really how you see me? Fine, I won’t bother you anymore.”

Clutching his chest, he got up and strode out. Bai Ruozhu, seeing this, quickly said to Fo Lanying, ”What are you saying? There must be some misunderstanding. Go after him and see what’s wrong.”

Fo Lanying was already worried, but with so many people watching, she felt there was no need to appease Yuan Licheng. Just then, the sound of hooves came from outside, and Yuan Licheng rode off.

By the time everyone reacted, it was too late to catch up. Bai Ruozhu sighed internally; he must have been deeply hurt and truly didn’t want to stay any longer.

Bai Ruozhu didn’t particularly like or dislike Yuan Licheng, but she felt this guy truly cared for Fo Lanying, and Fo Lanying had some feelings for him too. She hoped they could turn this incident into something positive for their relationship.

Fo Lanying sat despondently to one side. Though she said nothing, she felt miserable inside.

Had she really spoken too harshly, driving Yuan Licheng away?

She already felt guilty and self-reproachful in the face of Yuan Licheng. Now, having driven him away, she felt even worse. Yet she couldn’t tell if this discomfort was merely guilt or something more.

It was Gao Zhou who spoke up then, ”That kid must have misunderstood something. Earlier, when Ruozhu and Achun were talking, he overheard something. It seemed he mistook there to be something between Achun and Miss Feng, so he challenged Achun. In the end, he lost to his love rival and then got scolded by Miss Feng, no wonder he couldn’t stay.”

Jiang Yichun glared fiercely at his father, ”Dad, don’t say such things. What love rival? It has nothing to do with me!”

Gao Zhou laughed dryly, clearly enjoying the drama, ”You young folks, you still don’t see things as clearly as us old ones.”

Bai Ruozhu felt she could understand now why Yuan Licheng was angry and left. If she were in his shoes, with such a misunderstanding, she might not have the face to stay either.

”Let’s try to find him and explain everything,” Bai Ruozhu suggested.

Fo Lanying snapped back, ”No need to find him. Why should I explain? There’s nothing between us.”

Bai Ruozhu shook her head, saying nothing further. At that moment, saying more would only make Fo Lanying more stubborn. The more said, the worse it would get.

So she remained silent, letting everyone return to rest.

At night, Yizi came over to whisper to Bai Ruozhu, ”Fo Lanying found an excuse to leave. She must be going to find Yuan Licheng.”

Since Yizi and Fo Lanying shared a room, there was no way for Fo Lanying to avoid Yizi.

”Will they be alright? Should we follow them?” Yizi asked.

Bai Ruozhu shook her head, ”With their skills, they should be able to protect themselves. If we go now, it would only make things awkward, and Fo Lanying cares too much about her reputation. She might say something rash. Let’s wait here for their return.”

Bai Ruozhu said she wouldn’t worry, but she couldn’t help feeling concerned. That night, she barely slept, and when she finally heard a sound at dawn, it was Fo Lanying returning.

Unfortunately, there was only her footsteps; it seemed she hadn’t found Yuan Licheng.

Bai Ruozhu sighed. Jiang Yichun, beside her, wrapped an arm around her waist and said, ”Don’t worry about others. Let’s get some sleep.”

Bai Ruozhu pinched him on the waist, ”It was all your fault for making Fo Lanying help you in the first place. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be such a big misunderstanding. That girl has had a tough life; meeting someone who genuinely likes her isn’t easy. Now look what happened. If they miss this chance, won’t we feel guilty?”

Jiang Yichun winced, pretending to be in great pain, ”If it’s true love, it won’t be that easy to let go. If Yuan Licheng truly loves her, he won’t leave so easily. He’ll come back eventually. If he leaves just like that, maybe he wasn’t sincere, and it’s better for Fo Lanying to move on.”

Bai Ruozhu cast him a sidelong glance, ”When you left me, why didn’t you worry about true love?”

Jiang Yichun faltered, ”Didn’t I come back? Circumstances were special back then.”

Bai Ruozhu wanted to tease him further but was silenced by a kiss, the rest of her words swallowed back.

The night was short, and the room’s temperature rose abruptly, with stifled yet joyful noises emanating from inside.

Once Jiang Yichun opened the floodgates, it was relentless, and he didn’t relent until dawn was breaking, finally letting Bai Ruozhu go, exhausted, she glared at him and said, ”You’re wearing me out. How am I supposed to journey in the morning?”

Jiang Yichun gently massaged her slender waist, easing her fatigue, and laughed, ”Let’s stay here a day. Fo Lanying still has to find Yuan Licheng.”

Bai Ruozhu considered and saw the sense in it, so she relaxed and drifted off to sleep. Jiang Yichun lay beside her, brushing stray hairs from her temple, tracing her brows with a fingertip. If one day he truly died, would there be another life, and would he remember her face?
