Chapter 2252: Chapter 2251: Feng Cheng Disappears

However, that little girl Yizi noticed her worries and quietly said to her, ”Master, why don’t you have a good talk with the lord? It’s really no big deal; you’re just showing concern for a friend.”

Bai Ruozhu thought about it and realized it made sense; Feng Cheng had helped them several times. Even if there was no romantic affection between her and Feng Cheng, they were friends after all!

Bai Ruozhu looked at Yizi, feeling she had suddenly grown up. Recalling her situation with Jianqi, she softly asked, ”How are things with Jianqi? Has he said anything to you lately?”

Yizi’s little face fell; thinking about Jianqi’s previous rejection, she felt her heart ache again.

She shook her head and said, ”Nothing much; he is him, and I am me. He has his duties, and I have mine. I just want to stay by your side, Master, without thinking too much about other things.”

Bai Ruozhu sighed and said, ”You’ll have to marry someone as you grow up. If Jianqi is so ungrateful, I’ll match you with someone else and let him regret it!”

Yizi was startled; she was somewhat naive and thought Bai Ruozhu was serious. She hurriedly waved her hands, saying, ”No, no, I’m still young and don’t want to marry yet. It would be uncomfortable to marry someone unfamiliar with no feelings.”

Bai Ruozhu burst into laughter, ”Yes, there’s no real affection for others, only feelings for Jianqi.”

Yizi blushed, ”Master, don’t tease me like this. Even if I have feelings, it’s all in vain if he doesn’t want them.”

Bai Ruozhu held Yizi’s hand to comfort her, saying, ”It’s not that Jianqi doesn’t want to; he’s just used to living in stormy times and is afraid of implicating you, worrying about him. I think over time, he’ll slowly change his mind.”

Yizi did not speak. She still had thoughts, but dared not hope too much, knowing the greater the hope, the greater the disappointment.

Bai Ruozhu, seeing her like this, didn’t say much. This matter could not be rushed; talking too much when Jianqi was as unresponsive as a log, would only make Yizi sadder.

After Yizi left, Bai Ruozhu found an opportunity to talk with Jiang Yichun about her thoughts.

Jiang Yichun turned to look at her with surprise, ”Why are you telling me this?”

Bai Ruozhu hesitated, was he disagreeing or upset?

Her heart suddenly felt uncomfortable; despite discussing it kindly, he still had this attitude!

Unexpectedly, Jiang Yichun continued, ”Do we need to say these things between us? If you want to do something, just go ahead. Do you think I wouldn’t trust you?”

Bai Ruozhu felt touched and, with red eyes, pitifully looked at him and asked, ”If I’ve ever not trusted you, would you be angry?”

Recalling Jiang Yichun’s words about returning to Chengshui Country, desiring power, and even saying he had feelings for Fo Lanying, the daughter of the Quanrong Clan Leader.

She had furiously believed those words, which amounted to distrust in his character.

Seeing his trust in her, Bai Ruozhu felt both guilty and somewhat sad.

Jiang Yichun couldn’t resist pinching her little face and said, ”Why wouldn’t you trust me? If you didn’t, would you have traveled to Chengshui Country to find me? If not, you’d have skinned me by now. After all, what I showed was betrayal, deceit with intention, and my fault came first.”

Bai Ruozhu felt warmth in her heart. Although that matter really made her grit her teeth in hatred, she understood Jiang Yichun’s thoughts at that time, feeling both angry and heartache. Hearing these words now made her even more touched, and she hugged his neck, saying, ”It won’t happen again. No matter how you deceive me next time, say whatever you want, I’ve decided in my heart: you, Jiang Yichun, won’t change your heart; in your heart, there’s only me, Bai Ruozhu.”

Jiang Yichun felt moved, couldn’t resist holding her slender waist, and leaned in for a kiss.

As soon as the third elder entered, he bumped into the two in a passionate kiss. His old face flushed, and he quickly retreated, inwardly blaming them that young people don’t choose the occasion. Shouldn’t they be a bit more cautious?

Though he was quite jealous, he decided to go and find his Yunyun.

When Bai Ruozhu appeared again in the Peach Forest, she felt nothing had changed. The wind was still so gentle, the fragrance of peach blossoms filled the air, and the petals still swirled in the wind, some falling on her shoulder with a mysterious yet gentle aroma.

The difference was she didn’t see that pale figure, the one that made her feel a faint pain upon sight.

She wandered the Peach Forest a few times without finding Feng Cheng. Later, she even called out Feng Cheng’s name a few times, but Feng Cheng did not appear.

Bai Ruozhu started to murmur inwardly; was Feng Cheng hiding from her, not wanting to meet? Or had Feng Cheng gone somewhere else, or perhaps something had happened to him?

She didn’t think Feng Cheng would hide from her, not want to see her. Feng Cheng wasn’t someone petty; even if they couldn’t be lovers, they were still friends.

Maybe Feng Cheng wasn’t here, or maybe he was too ill to come out.

Bai Ruozhu began to worry. If Feng Cheng wasn’t here, had he returned to the other side of the teleportation array, never again guarding the Jiuli Clan?

If so, it was just that she couldn’t see Feng Cheng, hadn’t had a chance to say goodbye, but it wasn’t the worst result; the fear was the curse had worsened, and he had no chance to return to the Jiuli Clan, or else sick to the point...

Bai Ruozhu dared not think more, fearing the worst possible outcome.

Ultimately, she could only engrave a question mark on a peach tree and leave the Peach Forest.

The question mark was undecipherable to others, but Feng Cheng would surely understand. Wasn’t there a transmigrant one hundred years ago, his sister-in-law? He would know she was inquiring about his situation.

Jiang Yichun, seeing Bai Ruozhu so downcast, could only console her by saying, ”Maybe he’s found a cure and will return healthy soon.”

Bai Ruozhu smiled bitterly. If the curse was easily broken, Feng Cheng wouldn’t have suffered for over a century.

Thinking about curses, Bai Ruozhu’s worries over Jiang Yichun’s curse emerged, and her mood dipped even lower.

Luckily, her health was recovering well; within days, the wound was scabbing over, and there was little pain. She began to formulate the medicine to dissolve fire and thunder.

She made some, had others spread it in dangerous places, and within a few days, the outer fire and thunder were mostly dealt with.

Bai Ruozhu breathed a big sigh of relief; this crisis was finally passed safely.

The Jiuli Clan celebrated and held a memorial service for the young men of the scouting team who had perished.

Everyone in the clan attended. Those young men were sacrifices from the clan. They were so young, their lives hadn’t even reached a third of their journey, and they’d already given their young lives for the clan.

This was surely a cause for lament and guilt.
