Chapter 408: Chapter 408 May I Observe and Learn?_1

Been in contact with an ancient tomb?

Ford Howell frowned as he answered, ”My father is an archaeologist; he’s dealt with archaeology all his life. Coming into contact with ancient tombs is quite a common occurrence. What do you mean by asking this?”

Carson Flores rephrased his question, smiling, ”What I mean to ask is whether the elder gentleman had entered a tomb that was newly unearthed and not yet excavated by anyone, perhaps even came into direct contact with the ancient coffins inside, a month before the onset of his illness?”

As soon as Carson finished speaking, Ford Howell’s face slightly changed. He had already vaguely guessed the implication behind Carson’s question.

His father’s illness might have been caused by the ancient coffin in the tomb!

Mr. Nixon’s expression turned slightly peculiar as he glanced at Carson Flores, his eyebrows knitting together as if deep in thought yet also as if he couldn’t grasp the key point.

Jaiden Howell thought for a moment, then weakly nodded, ”Yes, a massive underground tomb complex was discovered in Dongyuan Province. It was found by local farmers who reported it. Then we organized a team, went down into the tomb for an inspection, and I indeed touched the ancient coffins, though I was wearing gloves. It was about twenty days before I started feeling unwell...”

As Jaiden spoke, Ford Howell’s face instantly became more agitated and hurried. He turned his head and stared at Carson Flores, ”Sir, are you saying that my father’s illness is related to coming into contact with the ancient coffin in the tomb?”

Carson Flores nodded affirmatively, ”The elder gentleman’s disease is actually not complicated. He must have accidentally inhaled or absorbed through some other means blood corpse bug eggs while inside the ancient tomb. The blood corpse bug eggs hatched and grew inside the elder gentleman’s body, sustaining themselves by consuming his vital energy. As the Blood Corpse Worms grow larger, they need vital energy more quickly, which accelerates the weakening of the body.”

”Looking at the elder gentleman’s condition, the Blood Corpse Worms should be fully developed by now, right inside the elder gentleman’s stomach, drawing large amounts of nutrition. That’s why the elder gentleman is so emaciated. If not controlled, these worms, unable to obtain sufficient nutrition, will become irritable and aggressive.”

Ford Howell stared in disbelief, ”You mean to say my father is like this because he has worms in his stomach?”

Carson Flores nodded, ”I quietly sensed for a while just now, and I could feel their presence. They are generally motionless as long as they have enough nutrition, but they start moving when there isn’t enough for their needs. Therefore, this worm is difficult to detect early on; even with the appropriate tests, they may not be discovered.”

Mr. Nixon approached, his expression subtle, ”I will give it a try.”

Carson Flores stepped aside with a smile, as Mr. Nixon placed his hand on Jaiden Howell’s stomach, closed his eyes, and quietly perceived. After a while, his face changed.

Suddenly, there was embarrassment, awkwardness, shame...

Mr. Nixon stood up and cupped his hands towards Carson Flores, ”Reed Nixon of the Born Sect, and you are?”

Carson Flores smiled, ”Carson Flores, Disciple of Andrew.”

Reed Nixon’s expression flickered subtly, ”So you are a Disciple of Mr. Andrew... I’ve never heard of this Blood Corpse Worm. Where did you learn of it, Mr. Flores?”

Carson Flores replied, ”I read about it in a nameless ancient book, full of various bizarre things, with a section on the Blood Corpse Worm. People of status and wealth, fearing that others would disturb their tombs, would often incorporate many mechanical traps, which were visible threats intended to kill invaders.”

”But what if the invaders were not killed? Naturally, the body inside would be desecrated. Therefore, they would place blood corpse bug eggs inside the coffin. If the body was disturbed, the eggs would scatter, entering another person’s body through the mouth, eyes, nose, and other orifices, then hatching into worms that suck vital energy, eventually causing a person to die with ruptured intestines and rotting stomach, as a form of revenge...”

Reed Nixon cupped his hands again, ”My knowledge is limited, as I’ve never heard of the Blood Corpse Worm before. I would like to request Mr. Flores’s help with treatment and hope you would allow me to observe and learn.”

Carson Flores said cheerfully, ”Of course, you can.”

The conversation between Carson Flores and Reed Nixon seemed to give Ford Howell a glimmer of hope too, and his tone immediately became more polite and respectful, ”Mr. Flores, what should we do for the treatment?”

Carson Flores replied calmly, ”It’s the same principle as treating roundworms, use medication to stun them, then expel them. However, the medicine must be exactly correct; otherwise, if stimulated, they will go berserk, and within moments cause a ruptured intestine and rotting stomach.”

Ford Howell’s face turned a bit pale, after all, the imagery was horrifying to ponder.

Contrarily, Jaiden Howell appeared resigned, even remarking, ”So, it is retribution for disturbing the tomb, disrupting the peace of its owner; indeed, we shouldn’t have. This is just retribution.”

Ford Howell comforted him, ”Dad, you did this to protect the owners of these ancient tombs and their artifacts. Otherwise, if tomb raiders discovered them, not only would the artifacts be stolen, but the tomb owners would also end up with no remains or peace.”

After consoling the dejected Jaiden Howell, Ford Howell respectfully said, ”Mr. Flores, what do we do now?”

Carson Flores smiled, ”I’ll write a prescription. You go get the herbs and brew the medicine. Drink it for three days straight. Keep eating, drinking, and relieving as usual. You should be able to expel all the Blood Corpse Worms. Then, afterward, just take some tonic prescriptions to replenish vital energy and recover...”
