The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard

Chapter 406: Chapter 406: Is He Even More Formidable Than the Experts of the Born Sect? _1

First Hospital of Xijing.

Leonard Reid brought Carson Flores to the special care ward, where all the rooms were single occupancy and quite spacious, each equipped with a variety of advanced instruments.

Carson Flores looked around and said with a smile, ”Ordinary people can’t afford to stay in this special care area. The old gentleman must be quite wealthy.”

Leonard Reid replied in a low voice, ”The old gentleman is a pure scholar, yes, the very image of virtue that comes to mind when we think of a ’scholar.’ He doesn’t care about money, and I guess he hasn’t made much in his life. However, the family he belongs to, the Howell Family, is a family of Cultivators, very influential. Additionally, the old gentleman’s sons are also quite capable...”

Carson Flores asked, ”Is the old gentleman also a Cultivator?”

Leonard Reid shook his head, ”He’s not. He’s just an ordinary person who has been immersed in archaeology all his life.”

Carson Flores nodded and said no more.

Leonard Reid stopped in front of a room number and said, ”This is it.”

Leonard Reid knocked softly on the door, which was then opened from the inside by a man in his fifties, who eyed Leonard Reid holding a bouquet of flowers.

”Who are you?”

Leonard Reid said with a smile, whispering, ”Mr. Howell, I’m Leonard Reid. I came to visit Mr. Howell Senior. We had made an appointment earlier.”

Mr. Howell Senior’s son, Ford Howell, stepped aside and said in a low voice, ”Please come in.”

In the spacious ward, an old man with white hair and a shriveled appearance lay on the hospital bed. At first glance, he seemed extremely thin!

It was as if he had been reduced to nothing but skin and bones, yet his eyes were still bright. As he watched Leonard Reid enter, the old man nodded slightly without speaking.

At the bedside sat a man in his fifties, somewhat overweight, with his hand on the old man’s wrist, taking his pulse.

Carson Flores’s gaze fell on this man, and after observing him for a moment, he concluded that this man was indeed a Cultivator, and probably a strong one at that.

A Cultivator as a Physician?

Living in the hospital and inviting a Cultivator Physician to see the patient suggested that the doctors at the hospital were likely at their wits’ end.

The Physician was in the midst of medical examination, and both Leonard Reid and Carson Flores were tactful enough not to speak, quietly standing aside and waiting.

After taking the pulse and carefully examining the patient, the Physician said with a grave expression, ”Strange, strange...”

Ford Howell approached and asked cautiously, ”Mr. Gong, what is it?”

Mr. Gong frowned, ”Such severe depletion of qi and blood, yet the cause eludes us, strange, truly strange.”

Ford Howell asked worriedly, ”My father has been steadily wasting away since his return, and the doctors haven’t identified any problems. We’ve tried various methods and consulted numerous physicians, but nothing has stopped the worsening of his condition. Mr. Gong, is there anything you can do?”

Mr. Gong sighed, ”If we could identify the cause, we could treat it accordingly. But without knowing the cause, even if one has great abilities, there’s no way to proceed. All I can do is prescribe some tonic herbal formulas to see if they could nourish the qi and blood...”

Lying in bed, Jaiden Howell thanked him in a hoarse voice, ”Thank you, Mr. Gong.”

Mr. Gong waved his hand, ”No thanks are needed. I’m ashamed that I can’t help you with my limited skills.”

Mr. Gong went over to a table, sat down, and began contemplating and writing a prescription.

Jaiden Howell’s eyes fell on Leonard Reid, and a kindly smile appeared on his face, ”Leonard, you’ve gone to great lengths to see this old man. I appreciate it.”

Leonard Reid bowed slightly, holding the old man’s hand gently, and said softly, ”It’s the least I can do. If it weren’t for your guidance early on in my life, I don’t know where I’d be suffering now.”

Jaiden Howell laughed, ”Each person must walk his own path, and your success today is not my doing. However, I am gratified that my decision to help you back then was the right one.”

Ford Howell came over and whispered, ”Mr. Reid, my father is frail and needs rest...”

Leonard Reid immediately understood, interpreting the other party’s message to mean that they appreciated his visit but preferred not to engage in prolonged conversation, as the elder Howell needed rest after the visit.

Leonard Reid was about to take his leave, without waiting for Mr. Gong to finish, whispered, ”Mr. Howell, in addition to visiting today, I’ve brought along a physician with exquisite medical skills, hoping he can have a look at the old gentleman’s condition...”

Ford Howell’s gaze fell on Carson Flores, his brows furrowed, he sighed, ”My father’s illness is most peculiar; many experts have been unable to identify the cause. Mr. Gong is a renowned figure in the Domain of medicine from the Cultivator sect of Heaven-born...”

Ford Howell didn’t finish his sentence, but his meaning was quite clear.

Expert physicians were helpless, and now even the esteemed figure from Heaven-born was unable to find the cause. Given Carson Flores’s youth, how could his medical skills be all that remarkable? Even if he were talented, could he surpass a renowned figure from Heaven-born?

Leonard Reid felt somewhat embarrassed. Although he wasn’t a Cultivator, he had some dealings with the Cultivation world and was certainly aware of Heaven-born’s status in the medical field.

Carson Flores indeed had formidable medical expertise, but Leonard Reid still couldn’t guarantee that his skills outstripped those of Heaven-born’s esteemed figure!

More importantly, it was clear that they were distrusting of Carson Flores and reluctant to accept Leonard Reid’s well-intentioned offer.

Leonard Reid sighed and was preparing to say goodbye when Jaiden Howell suddenly spoke with a smile from the bed, ”Having one more physician look at my condition gives me an additional chance to survive. I may be over eighty, but I still fear death. Young man, could I trouble you to take a look at me, please?”
