Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

For the sake of preserving this small building, she made a deal with the devil; this was the consequence she deserved.

She once naively thought she could escape all this, but now, in the shortest possible time, she’s reminded of cause and effect. The seeds she sowed must bear their own bitter fruit; there’s no one else to blame, only herself.

The sky had already darkened; in the Yates family’s living room, Evelyn Yates almost ground her teeth to pieces.

Even if Joshua Hughes is true to that vile woman, it’s unacceptable. He can only belong to her; she must secure the position of Madam Hughes at all costs.

She beckoned a maid: ”Go to the small building in the back and ask Mr. Hughes to come down for dinner.”

The maid showed a hint of fear on her face, even if she didn’t know who Joshua Hughes was, his aura just now was intimidating enough.

”Hurry up, or do you not want to work anymore.” Evelyn Yates rebuked coldly; her father’s attitude was already crystal clear. If Joshua Hughes favored Avery Jane, he didn’t oppose it.

Her father even thought Avery Jane could help her become Madam Hughes, but she absolutely couldn’t allow this kind of situation to arise. The thought of Joshua Hughes possibly laboring tirelessly over Avery Jane made her heart feel as if it were being devoured by countless poisonous insects, leaving her restless.

She couldn’t let them continue like this.

The corner of Joshua Hughes’s thin lips curved into an evil smile: ”Tell me, why did you cut off my call?”

He’s the master; all of his commands are indisputable. Now he’s inclined to have a good talk with her.

Her red lips moved slightly, yet she didn’t speak a word, only letting out an indistinct sigh. Such a faint sigh slowly rippled into the depths of Joshua Hughes’s heart, spreading slowly, giving him a feeling of heartache.

A misconception? Did he actually feel heartache?

”If you don’t speak, I naturally have my ways of knowing.” His voice was rich, low, like strong liquor spreading through the dim light.

Avery Jane looked at him helplessly, perhaps due to everything that happened over the past two days, perhaps because she was sitting in front of this man, perhaps because of the lab’s tight funding gap, or perhaps because of the Yates family’s unfriendly actions.

All of these slowly accumulated, almost suffocating her, making her feel like she’s about to die from it.

The air was tense, chaotic, helpless, and even filled with the man’s pulsing desire. All sorts of scents mingled like gray bubbles, growing from small to large, entangled tightly, suffocatingly, yet she couldn’t escape.

Someone gently knocked on the door outside: ”Young Madam, Miss wants you to come down for dinner.” The maid’s voice was very light but held a subtle tremor. The door remained silent for a long time, and those outside wondered whether to keep knocking or leave.

Joshua Hughes smiled faintly, watching her helplessness and panic; this woman was indeed intriguing.

”I’ll be right down.” Her voice was beautiful, as if a woman could be beautiful but have flaws. Yet this woman was so perfect in her beauty that she was beyond reproach, her voice as alluring and melodious as a golden oriole.

”Mr. Hughes, I’m sorry about today for cutting off your call, but I’ve paid the price for it, so could you please not be so aggressive anymore?” Avery Jane raised her head to look at the man in dim light, though the shadow couldn’t hide his sharp features or the mature charm emanating from him.

”It seems you won’t say anything more, Avery Jane. I like your lips—they’re beautiful, but aside from saying things that make me unhappy, what else can they do?” Joshua Hughes spoke, looking at her red lips softly parted.

Avery Jane’s long legs curled up; she sat hugging her knees, her whole body forming a small bundle, raising her eyes at him with a hint of unclarity, yet more with a sense of defense.

”For instance, kissing...” He leaned closer, and the seductive words vanished from her lips, as his pure, strong masculine aura pressed against her flower-petal-like soft lips.

After the kiss ended, Avery Jane’s face was flushed, breathing rapidly.

Joshua Hughes looked at her reddened lips with satisfaction: ”Avery Jane, we have all the time in the world—slowly enough to enjoy.”

His words ended at her ear, turning elegantly to leave, just as suddenly as he arrived, leaving Avery Jane alone and disordered with a room full of stifling yet intoxicating air.
