Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

But things are different now. Her daughter alone can surpass ten Lucas Yates, she can almost see the day her daughter becomes Mrs. Hughes. So, starting today, she can freely direct everyone at home, including Remi Wright and Avery Jane.

”Little Avery’s health has always been poor, she said she won’t come over. Anyway, Mr. Hughes is here to see you and the master. She’s of no use here.” Remi Wright smiled faintly. A couple of years ago, she might have fought for something, but what’s the use now? Her beloved son is gone; what good would fighting do?

”I’m not asking her to meet Mr. Hughes. Mr. Hughes wouldn’t meet a woman who just lost her husband, bringing bad luck. I’m saying she should go make some pastries for our Evelyn.” Harper Johnson lifted her chin arrogantly. Things aren’t the same as before. She wants to embarrass that little bitch Avery Jane.

The two remained standing in the living room, while outside in the yard, the iron gate was opened by a servant, and the understated luxury car slowly drove in.

The black car body shared the same authority as its owner, making the entire yard seem smaller in an instant. The car door opened, and the man emerging from the vehicle cast a deep and sharp glance over this small villa. This was the place where that stubborn woman lived—he was quite interested in playing games with her.

Evelyn Yates wore a dress designed by a famous designer, adorned with expensive diamond jewelry. She had never imagined waking up one day to have all this. When Joshua Hughes said he wanted to visit her home, she almost went mad with joy, thinking she had already captured his heart.

She gently linked her arm through Joshua’s, standing by his side like a dependent bird. ”Joshua, this is my mom.”

Evelyn Yates introduced Joshua Hughes sweetly.

Joshua Hughes gave the woman in front of him a indifferent look. Despite being middle-aged, she still maintained herself quite well.

Evelyn Yates had obviously inherited some traits from her mother.

The second wife of the Yates Family used to be Arthur Yates’s servant, but even after Arthur married his wife, he kept her around. Such things were common in families like the Yates. It’s just that the Yates Family is somewhat in decline now.

”Mr. Hughes’s visit truly brings us honor.” Arthur Yates came forward, his full-beaming smile deepening the wrinkles on his face. The various troubles of recent years had worn down his spirit, yet Evelyn’s selection felt like a dose of adrenaline.

Joshua Hughes glanced around indifferently. What? That woman named Avery Jane isn’t here?

He requested to see the entire family. Could Evelyn not understand what he said?

”Young Master Hughes, our Evelyn is very well-behaved. She’s never gone out with boys. If she doesn’t serve you well, please be forgiving.” Harper Johnson excitedly watched the man standing with her daughter. This man would change her and her daughter’s destiny, and her son’s future depended on him as well.

What a ridiculous joke. Joshua Hughes didn’t want to say anything.

He didn’t need to test to know whether the woman was a virgin.

Saying too much about such things would only seem laughable to him.

Evelyn Yates glanced at Joshua Hughes, feeling a bit uneasy. Besides, she feared annoying him.

She hurriedly smiled and said, ”Mom, I’ll take Joshua for a walk.”

The Yates’s small garden naturally couldn’t compare to the Hughes’s castle, but Lydia Jane arranged it very elegantly. She loved to fiddle with these things, self-taught after reading some books. Her utilization of space was very adept, with the plants arranged at varying heights. The colors of the flowers and grass matched artistically. Taking him for a sit in the garden seemed like a wonderful idea.

”Avery Jane, quickly prepare some pastries. I will send someone to bring them to the garden for Evelyn and Mr. Hughes to eat.” Concluding her call with Avery Jane, Harper Johnson ordered her, without a hint of politeness in her words.

Her daughter was now her treasure, indeed the anchor of the entire Yates Family, so no one could offend her daughter.

What good did the master’s respect for the son born to the first wife do? No matter how good he was in academics or his prospects, he’s now just lying in a small box.

From now on, the Yates Family was her domain, even the master had to yield to her. How could a widow stand up to her?

If she was in a good mood, she might keep her at the Yates Family, offering her a meal. If she was displeased, she’d send her off without a penny—off she’d go, without any entitlement to the shares Lucas Yates left in the Yates Family company. Those were the Yates Family’s possessions, now only to be inherited by the sole son, Caleb Cooper.

Harper Johnson’s sinister smile carried an unsettling chill.
