Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

She was anxious to prove that she and her mother still had a place in this family.

”Are you out of your mind? With your hand like that, what are you doing? Don’t you know that peanut dumplings are Wenyard Cooper’s favorite? How could Little Avery make them for anyone else?” Brian Yates shouted angrily. How could his sister be so heartless?

”Brother, I am your biological sister.” Evelyn Yates’ face turned awkward. What was this? Even her brother was humiliating her like an outsider.

Inexplicably, a fire burned in Joshua Hughes’ heart. She once spoke of her beliefs in his office, beliefs in love, but her beliefs were nothing more than a box of ashes buried underground.

How could there be love that transcends life and death in this world? It doesn’t exist, it won’t exist...

With a wild look, he watched her stand there quietly, disregarding the quarrels around her. Only when Brian Yates mentioned Wenyard Cooper’s name did her long eyelashes flutter intensely, like a frightened butterfly flapping its wings in panic.

Wenyard Cooper was the only name that could change her expression.

Joshua Hughes stared at Avery Jane, his lips nearly pressed into a straight line, his eyes deep and unfathomable, exuding an undeniable commanding presence.

He was pressuring her, forcing her to compromise with him. Avery Jane’s face showed a faint, helpless smile, like a leaf blown away by the wind, drifting aimlessly.

Some insignificant things can be compromised, while some memories must be kept in the heart for a lifetime, and it’s not about compromise or not.

But today, if she didn’t yield, it wouldn’t matter if she suffered, but she feared it would involve her mother as well.

”Evelyn, my hand has blisters, making the dumplings is inconvenient now. Maybe next time, if you really want to eat them, I’ll make them again when you come back.” Avery Jane’s gentle voice carried a hint of helplessness. How could she not guess that Evelyn Yates was doing it on purpose?

Ever since she met Wenyard Cooper, they had been compared countless times. Over the years, she could never swallow her pride, and now having connections with such a prominent figure, even showing some attitude seemed mild.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t have specifically requested that dish, knowing full well that she hadn’t made it since Wenyard left, always getting emotional at the sight of it.

”You use your palm to roll the dumplings but your back of the hand is injured, sister-in-law, are you really not giving me face?” Evelyn Yates looked at Avery Jane, realizing she was afraid, realizing she had finally bowed her head, and a victorious smile curved her lips, dazzling like the midday sun.

”Actually, if you really want to eat it, you should make it yourself. You think mine tastes good because I made it for Wenyard, putting all my heart into it. If you want Mr. Hughes to love you as Wenyard loved me, then make his favorite dish yourself. Even if it’s just a bowl of dumplings, it will be the best in the world.” After saying this, Avery Jane turned and left.

Brian Yates followed her: ”Little Avery, let me drive you.” His concern was evident in his words.

This was more humiliating than anything else, Avery Jane’s words clearly mocking her for not winning Joshua Hughes’ love.

Feigning composure, she asked sweetly, ”Joshua, what do you want to eat, I’ll make it for you?”

This Avery Jane, her words not only hurt her pride but also left her with nothing to retort, so she had to find a way out with Joshua Hughes.

Joshua Hughes’ long fingers gently caressed Evelyn Yates’ lovely face, then turned to Avery Jane and said, ”If she wants to eat, you have to make it. My woman can do whatever she wants.”

His voice was deep and pleasant, a low hum that hovered around but pressed down on her chest like a heavy stone, making it hard for her to breathe.

Avery Jane turned away, as if bitten by a snake, her body temperature dropping to freezing.

What did he mean by this, warning her about not agreeing to his terms in the office that day?

His words instantly ignited a flame of anger in her chest, the excruciating pain made it difficult for her to breathe.

Before meeting this man, she had never imagined that such a man could exist in this world—arrogant, domineering, doing whatever he pleased, never considering others’ feelings.

Joshua Hughes’ lips curled into a cruel smile, his low, rich voice like fine wine, clearly telling her a reality: ”Don’t deal with this lightly. If the taste is wrong for her, you have to keep making it until your hands are useless, or else the consequences will be unbearable.”

He wanted her to see clearly who the man in charge was, that the person in the grave could go to hell...

When she met this man again, this day finally came, catching her off guard, without a moment of preparation.

Remi Wright’s sorrow, Brian Yates’ anger, Harper Johnson’s smug smile, and Evelyn Yates’ blissful face all flashed through her mind. There was no other choice; this man wasn’t joking, and she didn’t want to make things difficult for those who cared for her.

The Yates Family’s dining room was filled with the fragrance of exquisite food.

Avery Jane, however, was alone in the kitchen, crushing roasted peanuts with white sugar into crumbs with a mortar, and preparing glutinous rice flour with water methodically, like a machine going through all the steps.

She couldn’t treat the skin on her hands because if she applied medication, the taste would seep into the food. Evelyn Yates would pick faults endlessly, so she couldn’t leave any evidence, or else there would still be endless trouble.

Her nimble fingers danced like butterflies taking flight, and every time she rolled a dumpling, it tugged at the nerves on the back of her hand, burning with sharp pain.

She hoped that after he ate this bowl of dumplings, matters would be settled. This feeling was too exhausting.

All she wanted was to hold onto her life for Wenyard. Was that not allowed?
