Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

She doesn’t use ”my mom,” she just says ”mom,” trying to subtly make Joshua Hughes acknowledge that her mother is also his.

Joshua Hughes gave a cold laugh. Whatever little tricks this woman had were transparent to him. However, his confrontation with that woman named Avery Jane earlier had put him in a good mood, so he chose not to dwell on it: ”I don’t like women who beat around the bush.”

Evelyn’s face turned red, a trace of embarrassment crossing it: ”I wanted to say that mom has been with the Yates Family for over twenty years, and she gave birth to me and my brother. Now that I’m living in the Hughes Family and brother is helping my father with work, I was thinking... I was thinking if mom could become the official wife. It’s her lifelong wish, and now that the aunt has lost her son, she must be feeling down. I’m afraid mom will be bullied by her.”

Her fingers lightly grazed his chest. His chest was firm and alluring, clearly the result of regular exercise.

Seeing the inscrutable look in his eyes, a sense of apprehension filled her heart: ”If it’s too difficult, then forget it.”

”Alright.” Before she could finish, Joshua agreed without hesitation.

All women are the same, approaching him with various goals—money, power, and sometimes even more demands.

Take Evelyn today for example, though she wasn’t attractive enough yet for him to bother guessing her thoughts. But since she asked, he agreed as compensation for her joining the Hughes Family this past year.

He smiled indifferently, not wanting to say anything more.

Evelyn was an exceptionally shrewd woman. She chuckled, her eyes revealing joy, feeling assured by his agreement. This had been something she had to express, being the daughter of the secondary wife, she’d endured for many years.

The Yates Family was plunged into unprecedented tension. There was an important guest visiting today, and Arthur Yates had changed clothes early, waiting in the hall.

To ordinary people, the Yates Family might be considered well-off, but compared to the nobly-born Hughes Family, it was practically worlds apart.

Given the Yates Family standing, even Evelyn couldn’t have attended that Hughes Family banquet, let alone become Joshua’s wife.

Even just staying by his side as his lover for a year would be enough for the Yates Family to boast in the business world. Harper had also dressed early in a wine-red qipao. Her daughter’s phone call had made her extremely excited today; she’d waited twenty years for the day she could finally hold her head up high and wield power in this house.

Two servants had already cleaned the living room furniture spotlessly. The treasured red wine had been opened, poured into decanters to breathe; it was a great honor.

In the past ten years, Joshua had never visited the home of any chosen woman.

Their family was the first and also the only one.

Arthur Yates couldn’t contain the excitement on his face. This daughter, who appeared gentle and timid, was quite adept at capturing men’s hearts. In just a few days, she’d captivated Joshua to the point of him lowering himself to visit the Yates Family.

Connected to the main building was a smaller building where Wenyard Cooper used to live. Avery Jane paid no attention to the lively scene happening out front.

She took out a jewelry box containing some jewelry Wenyard Cooper had given her. The delicate and exquisite diamond pieces were most valuable among them, the wedding ring he placed on her hand when they got married. It had nearly exhausted all of Wenyard’s savings at the time. Avery touched it tenderly before putting it back and closing the box.

Remi Wright gently pushed open the door and came in: ”Little Avery, why aren’t you getting ready? Dad will be angry in a while.”

Her voice was gentle and courteous, with a tone of sympathy for this child. Over the past half-year, she’d never stepped outside, except to visit Wenyard. Her heart had followed Wenyard in that car accident.

Avery discreetly pushed the box behind her, not wanting Remi Wright to worry: ”Mom, I’ll be ready soon.”

She was planning to sell these first. Although it was just a drop in the bucket, it would still help address urgent needs, and then she would think of other solutions.

”Did sister just get here? Where’s Avery Jane? Have her go to the kitchen and make some snacks for Evelyn. Evelyn likes the snacks she makes.” Due to her change in status, Harper Johnson began to disrespect Remi Wright even before becoming the official wife.

Because she was confident. Remi Wright previously held such a position in the Yates Family due to Wenyard Cooper’s academic achievements, which gave the old man a lot of face and deep affection. After all, Arthur Yates was deeply traditional, holding the belief that the firstborn son should inherit the family business.
