Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

Truly an ignorant woman, blinded by appearances; if Harper Johnson had observed carefully, she would have realized that Joshua Hughes wore a faint, detached cold smile from beginning to end.

In those deep, inscrutable black eyes like ink, there was a profound and sharp gleam, locked straight onto Avery Jane’s small face, his displeasure gradually deepening.

”Does Miss Jane think I, Mr. Hughes, can’t afford this money?” Joshua Hughes’ gaze suddenly became sharp, like a sharp knife piercing her heart, making her feel a suffocating pain.

His eyes were filled with alluring threat, and others assumed he was trying to win Evelyn Yates’ favor, but only Avery Jane clearly knew what this man was thinking.

A playboy, such a man just wanted to taste a woman, and if he couldn’t have a taste, he’d be uncomfortable, yet she didn’t want him to taste her, not at all.

Perhaps Wenyard Cooper would want her to find someone else to love, to marry, to have children, to live a complete life; if she could meet someone like that, she would, because she promised him she’d live well, to experience all he couldn’t.

But this person would definitely not be Joshua Hughes. If a woman wasted her heart on such a man, it would indeed be pitiful.

Avery Jane smiled calmly, and said softly, ”I know that no matter what price I set, Mr. Hughes could afford it, but I always have my life to live. Sometimes money can’t solve all problems, can it?”

Avery Jane made it clear that his money couldn’t solve any of her problems, because she wouldn’t use his money.

This damn woman...

”Clink...” The crystal-clear wine glass was thrown out by Joshua Hughes’ large hand as he tilted his head back to finish the drink, and the crisp and sharp sound made everyone shudder.

The atmosphere was tense to the extreme, even the long-time servant standing by trembled nervously, unsure whether to clean up the broken glass.

For a moment, the dining room fell silent, the air filled with oppression and unease, two conflicting emotions almost driving people to the brink of collapse.

Joshua Hughes looked at her coldly, moment by moment; he had never been rejected like this ever since he was a child, never. He was like a leopard about to pounce and tear her into pieces, but Avery Jane showed no trace of fear.

”Joshua, don’t...” Evelyn Yates just began to speak, but was immediately silenced by his icy stare, stunned into submission.

This man was shamelessly displaying his authority, like a king, revealing his intimidating danger even on others’ turf, compelling submission.

The eerie and suffocating air was nearly driving people crazy.

Until Joshua Hughes spoke again, his voice low and chilling, ”Hope your work goes smoothly, and you don’t run into any trouble.”

Everything returned to normal with just that sentence from him, but only Avery Jane knew that each word was laden with meaning, beyond anyone else’s interpretation.

Joshua Hughes stood up, passing by Avery Jane, without looking at her again, and walked straight out.

Evelyn Yates, anxious, chased after him, and as she passed by Avery Jane, she gave a hard shove: ”It’s all your fault, Joshua got so upset. How ungrateful.”

The tone was extremely nasty, and the disdainful gaze made one’s heart feel icy cold.

”Little Avery, let me take you to the hospital.” Brian Yates hurriedly came forward to support her, feeling he had been too weak, realizing he should have stepped forward earlier.

But that man was simply too powerful; even a mere glance from him could annihilate all opponents, sharp and chilling, leaving no place to hide.

”Does she even need the hospital? She might as well just die. Offending Mr. Hughes like this, she...” Harper Johnson, recovering from the previous shock, almost wanted to swallow Avery Jane whole.

For the first time, this was Joshua Hughes’ first visit to the Yates Family household, and such a thing happened, absolutely infuriating her.

”Shut up, Avery Jane, go to the hospital for a bandage first.” Arthur Yates, who had silently observed everything from the start, finally put an end to Harper Johnson’s cursing, gazing at Avery Jane thoughtfully.

Sitting collapsed on the ground, feeling caught off guard by everything, Avery Jane gave a bitter smile. Why does it always have to be her that ends up in such situations?
