Chapter 250: Chapter 250: The Lian Family Plans a Sneak Attack on the Shen Family

”This...”

This scene startled everyone present, including Lian Ruilong and Lian Chengbi, who had just returned after seeing off the poison master and the Shen brothers. Lian Haidong and the old matriarch shot up from their seats as if on springs.

”You... you didn’t take the Cartilage Elixir?” Lian Haidong asked in shock.

”You trust Shen Shihao too much!” Ye Xiu casually sowed discord.

”Bastard!” Lian Haidong erupted. ”If the Shen family didn’t want to marry Shen Monong to us, they should have just said so! Why use such a despicable method to harm Zhengrong?”

The old matriarch roared, ”Shen Songshan, the Lian family is now irreconcilable with the Shen family!”

The other members of the Lian family were also seething, their killing intent palpable. They were convinced that the Shen family had regretted promising Shen Monong to Lian Zhengrong. Not wanting to break the engagement openly, they had sent someone pretending to be poisoned by the Cartilage Elixir to secretly harm him.

”It seems the attack on the four bodyguards last night, the car accident, the people killed at the highway entrance this morning, and the tampering with Zhengrong’s bedding were all the Shen family’s doing,” Lian Chengbi said darkly.

”I trusted the Shen family too much. In Qingfeng Road, only they could slaughter dozens of people in an instant and prevent us from identifying the killer,” said Lian Haidong.

”No wonder Shen Shihao agreed so readily to help us investigate,” Lian Ruilong remarked.

Ye Xiu listened, dumbfounded. Is this family’s imagination really so vivid? Those things have nothing to do with the Shen family! I did it! Hey, over here! I was the one who did it!

”Ahem, could I try to set the record straight? You’ve all guessed wrong. The Shen family really wasn’t behind it,” Ye Xiu said earnestly.

”You don’t need to cover for them. The more you say that, the more suspicious they become,” Lian Haidong said coldly.

Ye Xiu was speechless. Heh! If you say so! Whatever makes you happy!

”Kid, Shen Shihao and Shen Shijie clearly sent you here to die, yet you’re still defending the Shen family. What in the world did that old codger Shen Songshan give you?” Lian Chengbi demanded angrily.

”He didn’t give me anything,” Ye Xiu replied, feeling he was being grievously misjudged.

”Stop wasting words on him. Kill him now, then immediately gather our forces and take revenge on the Shen family.” Lian Haidong didn’t want to waste any more time on Ye Xiu. He was itching to take advantage of the Shen family being unprepared and lead his troops to annihilate them.

”I’ll kill him!” Lian Chengbi snatched a saber from a nearby Martial Artist and charged at Ye Xiu.

”Sigh. Why do my plans always run into problems?” Ye Xiu sighed helplessly. With a single slap, he knocked the charging Lian Chengbi unconscious, then hoisted him onto his shoulder and fled.

His plan today had actually been to ask his aunt about the Bloodstone and then kill Lian Chengbi. If the Lian family refused to back down, he would simply wipe them out. What a simple plan! Yet, the Lian family’s wild imagination had pinned the whole mess on the Shen family. Ye Xiu had no choice but to change his plan. Letting the Lian family test the Shen family’s true strength was far more direct than having Gong Jin investigate slowly.

Seeing Ye Xiu knock out the Great Grandmaster Lian Chengbi with a single slap and flee with him on his shoulder, everyone’s expression changed drastically.

”After him!” Lian Ruilong roared, and everyone moved to give chase.

”Hold your pursuit!” Lian Haidong commanded in a deep voice. ”He’s a War God. No wonder Shen Shihao and Shen Shijie sent him to humiliate Zhengrong and plot against him here. He defends the Shen family even in the heart of enemy territory because, as a War God, he’s confident he can escape unharmed.”

After hearing this, the Lians all wore expressions of sudden understanding.

”Dad, are we just going to abandon Chengbi?” Lian Ruilong asked.

”Of course not, but who among us is confident they can catch a War God?” Lian Haidong said, his face grim. ”Immediately gather our men and attack the Shen family. Once we capture them, we can trade them for Chengbi.”

The old matriarch added, ”To prevent that War God from tipping off the Shen family, everyone here will head to their residence immediately. Ruilong, inform the others. Have them rush to the Shen residence and reinforce us.”

”Everyone, with me.” Lian Haidong retrieved his weapon from the house and stormed out, radiating killing intent. The others in the courtyard followed closely. Meanwhile, Lian Ruilong sent a mass text summoning all the Lian family’s Martial Artists to the Shen residence.

Meanwhile, after carrying Lian Chengbi out of the Lian family estate and seeing no one in pursuit, Ye Xiu ran to a car parked by the road.

”Open the trunk!”

”Yes, Young Master!” The driver hastily complied.

Ye Xiu stuffed the unconscious Lian Chengbi, whose martial prowess had been crippled, into the trunk. Just as he was about to get in the car to go watch the show at the Shen residence, a white BMW sped over and stopped nearby.

Shen Monong got out, her voice filled with pleasant surprise. ”You’re okay?”

”Why wouldn’t I be?” Ye Xiu asked.

”My dad said Shen Shihao captured you and sent you to the Lian family. I thought you’d be killed for sure,” Shen Monong said with a smile.

”You rushed all the way here to save me?” Ye Xiu asked, taken aback.

”Yes!” Shen Monong nodded. ”It’s strange, though. After you humiliated Lian Zhengrong so badly last night, how did the Lian family let you go?”

”I escaped on my own,” Ye Xiu said. ”By the way, the Lian family thinks the Shen family ordered me to humiliate Lian Zhengrong. They’re about to attack the Shen residence, so you should warn Old Master Shen right away.”

He wasn’t worried about the Shen family being wiped out. Rather, only by letting them know about the Lian family’s attack in advance could he gauge their true strength. Otherwise, if the Lian family attacked while the Shens were casually sipping tea and chatting, it would be impossible to see what they were truly capable of.

”What?” Shen Monong was stunned. ”Are you telling the truth?”

”I don’t see any reason to lie to you, do I?” Ye Xiu retorted.

Shen Monong stared at him for three seconds and was convinced. She quickly called her grandfather, Shen Qilin, then said to Ye Xiu, ”We’re too close to the Lian residence here. Let’s go. Forget the taxi, ride with me.”

She had mistaken the parked car for a taxi, unaware that the driver was one of Ye Xiu’s men.

”Alright,” Ye Xiu agreed. As Shen Monong hurried into her car, he leaned over and whispered to his subordinate, ”Interrogate Lian Chengbi. Find out exactly what that Bloodstone my aunt has is. Once you have the answer, notify Gong Jin and have her text it to me.”

”Understood!” the subordinate nodded.

Ye Xiu got into Shen Monong’s car. She slammed the accelerator, and the BMW shot forward like an arrow from a bow. The powerful acceleration almost made Ye Xiu sick. He forced a wry smile. ”There’s no need to panic. Even if the Lian family spots your car, they won’t waste time on you. Their target is the entire Shen family.”

After a moment’s thought, Shen Monong realized he had a point. She slowed down and shot him a sideways glance. ”Why do I get the feeling that trouble follows you wherever you go?”

Ye Xiu chuckled inwardly. You probably wouldn’t believe me if I told you, but I came to Qingfeng Road specifically to cause trouble. Aloud, he changed the subject, ”With the Lian family attacking, what do you think the Shen family’s chances are?”

This was his way of tactfully probing for information.
