Medical and Martial God

Chapter 235: Chapter 235: The Truth of That Year

”What a load of bullshit.”

Ye Xiu roared, his face contorted with fury. ”What kind of secret would make you take your infant daughter and remarry right after your husband died, before he was even buried? If you had a good reason, would you prevent Kong Ruoruo from visiting her grandparents or sweeping their graves for twenty years?”

Ye Xiu was about to explode with anger!

He was angry that Qiu Yunxuan had remarried, but he could understand it. His uncle had died when Qiu Yunxuan was still young, and it would have been cruel to expect her to remain a widow for the rest of her life. But Qiu Yunxuan should not have taken Kong Ruoruo and left the Kong Family so soon after his uncle’s death, before the funeral was even held. While her grandparents were still alive, Kong Ruoruo hadn’t even gone back to see them once. After they died, she never once visited to sweep their graves.

This was something Ye Xiu could not tolerate!

”First, calm down. I can answer all of these questions,” Qiu Yunxuan said, trying her best to remain composed. ”But before I answer, let me ask you a few things.”

”Ask away!” Ye Xiu said coldly, resisting the urge to strangle her.

”Did you ever see your uncle’s body with your own eyes?” Qiu Yunxuan asked.

”No,” Ye Xiu answered. ”I was young at the time. My mother and maternal grandparents were afraid it would scare me, so they didn’t let me see.”

”Did you attend your uncle’s funeral?” Qiu Yunxuan asked.

”No, I was sick and in the hospital,” Ye Xiu replied.

”From the time you were six until your incident at age ten, did your mother and maternal grandparents ever take you to pay respects to your uncle? Do you know where your uncle’s grave is?” Qiu Yunxuan asked two questions in a row.

Ye Xiu was stunned! It was at this point he realized something was terribly wrong. Indeed! From age six to ten, his mother and maternal grandparents had never taken him to pay respects to his uncle. They had never even mentioned where his uncle’s grave was.

”What are you trying to say?” Ye Xiu asked.

”Your uncle isn’t dead. He’s still alive,” Qiu Yunxuan stated.

”What?” Ye Xiu’s expression changed drastically. He challenged her, ”That’s impossible. If my uncle is alive, why has he never come back to see us? Ten years ago, when my mother and maternal grandparents died in a car accident, why didn’t he show up? And in all these years, he’s never once paid respects to them.”

”He’s in prison, serving a life sentence,” Qiu Yunxuan said, starting to cry. ”How could he visit you? How could he claim the bodies of your mother and maternal grandparents? How could he pay his respects to them?”

Ye Xiu felt as if he had been struck by lightning. He asked dumbfoundedly, ”What crime did he commit? Why was he sentenced to life in prison? And why did my mother and maternal grandparents lie and tell me he was dead?”

Wiping away her tears, Qiu Yunxuan explained, ”Back then, the Ye Family was suppressing the Kong Family, and many people took the opportunity to laugh at our misfortune. Some even used it as a chance to bully us. Three local thugs saw how beautiful your mother was and attempted to rape her. Your uncle caught them, but they beat him down and were about to continue their assault. In a desperate rage, your uncle stabbed two of them to death. He was arrested and sentenced shortly after.”

”You were just a child. Your mother and maternal grandparents didn’t want you to know about such sordid affairs, so they made up the lie that your uncle had died.”

Ye Xiu was speechless. So that was the truth of what happened that year?

He asked, ”Then why did you take Ruoruo and leave the Kong Family at that time?”

”Your maternal grandparents drove me away,” Qiu Yunxuan said. ”They knew the Ye Family wouldn’t let the Kong Family off, so they wanted me to take Ruoruo and preserve a bloodline for the family.”

Ye Xiu fell silent. He had misunderstood his aunt, Qiu Yunxuan, for twenty years. How could he have been so foolish as to never investigate what happened back then?

”Aunt, I’m sorry. I misunderstood you,” Ye Xiu said, full of regret and apology.

”We’re family. There’s no need for apologies.” Qiu Yunxuan walked over, stroking Ye Xiu’s face with tear-filled eyes. ”Ye Xiu, you’ve suffered all alone these years. It’s because I was powerless and cowardly that I didn’t step forward to protect you.”

”I’ve lived well all these years. It’s you who has suffered, raising Ruoruo all by yourself,” Ye Xiu sighed. ”By the way, you must have heard about my exoneration. Why didn’t you bring Ruoruo to Jin Ye City to find me?”

”I didn’t dare,” Qiu Yunxuan said bitterly. ”Ten years ago, it wasn’t just you who was framed. Your mother and maternal grandparents died tragically, and those bastards didn’t spare me and Ruoruo either. My parents and my brother also died in a car accident ten years ago. Even though I knew you had cleared your name, I also knew those people wouldn’t let you go. If I had brought Ruoruo to find you, she would have been in danger...”

”What?” Ye Xiu’s face changed dramatically. Had he not only inadvertently caused the tragic deaths of his mother and grandparents but also his aunt’s family?

He asked, ”Who are the murderers?”

”The killers were caught and sentenced to life in prison. They’re in the same prison as your uncle. For years, those two have been looking for a chance to kill your uncle in prison, but they’ve never succeeded,” Qiu Yunxuan explained.

”They’re courting death!” Ye Xiu raged, asking, ”Which prison is my uncle in?”

”He’s in Qingfeng Road Prison,” said Qiu Yunxuan.

”Let’s go. I’ll take you and Ruoruo to get my uncle out of prison. While we’re there, we’ll find out who the mastermind behind those two killers is,” Ye Xiu said, suppressing his Killing Intent.

”Get your uncle out of prison?” Qiu Yunxuan was startled. ”Your uncle was sentenced to life. Although he’s been a model prisoner and his sentence has been reduced, he still has five years left.”

”Don’t worry about that. Just come with me,” Ye Xiu said, unwilling to waste another second on explanations. He just wanted to race to the prison.

”Oh, okay!” Qiu Yunxuan and Kong Ruoruo hurriedly followed, not even changing out of their slippers.

Downstairs, after getting into the car, Kong Ruoruo exclaimed in surprise, ”Wow, Cousin, are you this rich? You’re driving such a nice car!”

”I have plenty of luxury cars at home. You can pick whichever one you like. As for money, you can spend as much as you want. You couldn’t run out in ten lifetimes,” Ye Xiu said.

Kong Ruoruo pouted and whispered to Qiu Yunxuan, ”Mom, my cousin seems to really like bragging.”

”Your cousin is Ye Xiu, the Medicine King of Xuanse,” Qiu Yunxuan told her.

”Huh?” Kong Ruoruo looked dazed. ”I have such an amazing cousin?”

Ten years ago, when Ye Xiu first became famous, the ten-year-old Kong Ruoruo had admired him greatly. She even dreamed of marrying Divine Doctor Ye when she grew up. As it turned out, Divine Doctor Ye was her cousin.

”Cousin, you’re the Medicine King of Xuanse?” Kong Ruoruo asked for confirmation.

”I am,” Ye Xiu nodded.

”Are you also a Great Grandmaster?” Kong Ruoruo asked.

”I’ve killed more Great Grandmasters than you’ve had hot dinners,” Ye Xiu said.

Kong Ruoruo grinned. ”Cousin, come on. Let’s not brag.”

Ye Xiu was speechless.

Just then, Kong Ruoruo suddenly said to Qiu Yunxuan, ”Mom, my cousin is so incredible. Compared to him, I feel like trash.”

”You have the nerve to say that? You’ve been expelled from school dozens of times! I’m done with you. From now on, your cousin can deal with you,” Qiu Yunxuan said irritably.

Ye Xiu chuckled. The first time he met Kong Ruoruo, he’d had a feeling the girl was trouble, and it seemed he had been absolutely right. His cousin was indeed a handful.

「Meanwhile, Xie Weizheng and his four bodyguards were in a van, heading straight for the Lian Family estate.」

”Mr. Xie, that kid is no simple character,” one of the bodyguards said. ”He doesn’t seem to fear the Lian Family at all. Could he have a powerful backer?”

”No matter how powerful his backer is, they can’t be stronger than the Lian Family. The Lian Family is one of the four great families of Qingfeng Road and the number one family in the Qingfeng Road Ancient Martial Circle. They’re about to form a marriage alliance with the Shen Family, and soon all of Qingfeng Road will be theirs. No matter how strong that kid’s backer is, he’s a mighty dragon trying to cross the river, but he can’t beat a local snake like the Lian Family—”

Xie Weizheng’s cold words were cut short. PFFT! He suddenly sprayed a mouthful of blood and his head slumped forward.

”Mr. Xie, what’s wrong—”

The bodyguard was shocked. Before he could finish his question, he felt a sharp pain in his heart, coughed up blood, and lost consciousness.

At the same time, the bodyguard who was driving and the other guard also spewed blood and passed out.

The vehicle spun out of control, crashing into a tree on the side of the road.
