Chapter 240: Chapter 240: This is Acting, Why Are You Really Hitting?

Liu Gao discreetly glanced at Lian Zhengrong in the crowd.

I need to confirm my guess!

Seeing Lian Zhengrong nod, Liu Gao grinned. I knew it. I can read Young Master Lian like a book; I understood his intentions perfectly.

In truth, Lian Zhengrong had also panicked when he saw someone hijacking his plan. But then, a new idea struck him. Just let Liu Gao beat this guy up. It’ll be more effective if I make my grand entrance afterward!

So when Liu Gao sought his approval with a look, he nodded.

”Kid, I advise you not to meddle. Otherwise, you’ll be leaving here in an ambulance,” Liu Gao threatened, glaring at the ’extra’.

”To be honest, I’ve never ridden in an ambulance before. I’d appreciate it if you’d let me experience it,” Ye Xiu replied with a smile.

That’s right. The young man who had disrupted Lian Zhengrong’s ’hero saves the damsel’ plan was none other than Ye Xiu!

”Well, well, aren’t you arrogant,” Liu Gao sneered. Young Master Lian sure found a convincing actor for this bit part.

”Brothers, since he’s so eager to ride in an ambulance, let’s grant him his wish! Get him! Beat him senseless!”As he spoke, he gave his five underlings a meaningful look, signaling them to play along with the act.

His underlings, however, completely failed to understand his look. They were still bewildered. Wasn’t Lian Zhengrong supposed to be the one to play the hero? Where did this troublemaker come from? Consequently, they misinterpreted Liu Gao’s intentions, assuming he was genuinely angry and wanted them to beat this guy up to get the plan back on track.

”Get him!” one of the thugs yelled, waving his arm as he led the charge toward Ye Xiu.

The other four thugs lunged at the same time.

”Stop!” Shen Monong cried out. Ye Xiu was stepping in to defend her; she couldn’t let him get beaten up for it.

The five thugs, however, paid her no mind, and Shen Monong grew frantic!

The other patrons in the bar watched on with glee. Fights were a common occurrence here, and they always loved a good show.

Five against one! This overconfident, wannabe hero was finished!

Lian Zhengrong smiled. There’s no way this guy can beat five thugs who live by the knife.

Liu Gao’s line of thinking was even simpler. He’s an extra hired by Young Master Lian. He’ll definitely cooperate and let my guys take him down.

However, contrary to everyone’s expectations...

The first thug to reach Ye Xiu threw a straight punch at his face, but Ye Xiu easily caught his wrist.

CRACK!

With a sickening crunch, Ye Xiu snapped the man’s wrist.

At the same time, Ye Xiu’s legs shot out in a blur, delivering four swift kicks. The other four charging thugs were each struck squarely in the face. They fell backward, their noses caved in and their faces bloodied.

The entire bar erupted in an uproar. No one had expected Ye Xiu to be so formidable, taking down five thugs in an instant.

The crowd of onlookers became electric, as if they’d been shot up with adrenaline.

Shen Monong stared, momentarily stunned. She hadn’t expected Ye Xiu to be such a skilled fighter. The anxiety that had gripped her heart finally eased.

Lian Zhengrong, watching from the crowd, was dumbfounded. What happened to the script? The plan was for Liu Gao to beat up the meddler, then I make my grand entrance! The plot has gone completely off the rails! If this guy takes out all six of Liu Gao’s men, what’s left for me to do?

”Hey, are you crazy?!” Liu Gao shrieked, glaring at Ye Xiu. ”This is just an act! Why are you hitting for real?”

An act? The entire crowd was dumbfounded.

From his spot in the crowd, Lian Zhengrong’s face turned grim. That idiot Liu Gao! Announcing it was an act in front of everyone... he’s completely sold me out!

”An act?” Ye Xiu repeated, taken aback for a moment before realization dawned on him. ”So, you were all hired to harass this lady, setting the stage for your employer to swoop in and play the hero?”

After hearing Ye Xiu’s words, the onlookers suddenly understood. So that’s what was going on! What an expensive way to pick up a girl!

”Who hired you?” Shen Monong asked, glaring coldly at Liu Gao.

”Huh?”

Liu Gao now realized he had slipped up. It was obvious that Ye Xiu wasn’t the extra hired by Lian Zhengrong. ”Uh, I... I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he stammered.

”Since you were hired for this, you should know who I am. If you don’t start talking, I can easily send people to have a chat with your family,” Shen Monong said, her voice turning to ice.

”This...”

Liu Gao instantly panicked. On Qingfeng Road, offending the Shen Family was tantamount to offending the King of Hell. Lian Zhengrong couldn’t protect him from that, and what’s more, Lian Zhengrong would likely abandon him to save his own skin.

”It... it was Lian Zhengrong! He paid me to do this!” Liu Gao dropped to his knees with a thud, begging for mercy. ”Miss Shen, please, don’t go after my family! They’re innocent!”

Seeing Liu Gao betray him, Lian Zhengrong, still in the crowd, was so furious his face turned ashen!

The onlookers gasped when they heard the name Lian Zhengrong. As one of the Four Young Masters of Qingfeng Road, Lian Zhengrong was not only famous but also had a good reputation.

Who would have thought he’d stoop to something like this.

”Lian Zhengrong?” Shen Monong’s delicate brows knitted together. Her gaze swept over the crowd, easily spotting him. ”Young Master Lian,” she said coldly, ”don’t you think this is a bit childish?”

”Ahem...”

Realizing he’d been exposed, Lian Zhengrong coughed awkwardly and squeezed his way out of the crowd. He forced a laugh and said, ”Monong, we have an engagement. Our party is tomorrow night, and we’ll be married soon enough. I was just trying to add a little spark to our relationship. Please don’t misunderstand.”

As soon as he said this, the onlookers had another epiphany! So, this beautiful woman was his fiancée! The whole ’hero saves the damsel’ scenario was just a romantic gesture Lian Zhengrong had arranged.

Understanding this, they were now filled with admiration. He was truly worthy of his title as one of the Four Young Masters of Qingfeng Road for coming up with such a creative romantic gesture.

The women in the crowd, meanwhile, looked at Shen Monong with envy. If their boyfriends went to such lengths to be romantic, they would surely love them even more.

”Childish,” Shen Monong snorted. She turned to Ye Xiu. ”Even though this was just Lian Zhengrong’s absurd prank, I still have to thank you.”

Only then did Ye Xiu get a clear look at Shen Monong. He froze stiff on the spot—no, wait, he was just plain stunned. He had only ever seen photos of her; he never expected the real person to be so different.

Shen Monong’s beauty was different from that of women like Qin Qing, Gong Jin, or Ming Yue. Hers was a mature, ripened beauty, the kind that made one irresistibly want to take a taste.

Holy hell!
