Chapter 239: Chapter 239: The Hero Saves the Beauty but Gets Cut Off

”Young Master Lian, Shen Monong is drinking hard. She’s about to get drunk. If you don’t make a move soon, someone else will swoop in,” the bald muscleman reminded Lian Zhengrong, who had started making out with the beauties beside him.

”Oh, right! I almost forgot the main event!” Lian Zhengrong slapped his forehead. ”In a bit, once Shen Monong is drunk enough, you guys pretend to be creeps and harass her. Then, I’ll step in to play the hero and save the damsel. That’s the plan, so don’t screw it up.”

A woman won with money, status, or power will only give you her body. Capturing her heart, however, requires technique. And playing the hero to save the damsel is a timeless, foolproof trick to win a girl over. Lian Zhengrong had used this tactic many times, and it had never failed.

”Don’t you worry, Young Master Lian. My acting is absolutely Oscar-worthy. I guarantee I won’t mess things up for you,” the bald muscleman said, brimming with confidence.

”Alright, get to it.” Lian Zhengrong waved his hand. ”When it’s done, you get one million. The others get two hundred thousand each.”

”Thank you for your generosity, Young Master Lian!” The bald muscleman and his underlings were ecstatic. They thanked him profusely before eagerly leaving the private room and heading for the ’set.’

「In the booming nightclub.」

The place was exceptionally crowded, yet there was an empty space in a two-meter radius around one particular booth. The occupant of this booth was a woman—a woman so impossibly beautiful, with such an elegant air and an incredible figure, that she seemed unreal.

She seemed oblivious to the crowd, as if she couldn’t even hear the pounding music. Her gaze was fixed solely on the glass in her hand, from which she drank, gulp after gulp.

She was Shen Monong.

Countless predatory men stared at her like wolves, yet none dared to approach. Shen Monong’s beauty and aura made every man feel inadequate, robbing them of the courage required for a toad to lust after a swan’s flesh.

”Hey, beautiful! Must be boring drinking all alone. How about I join you for a couple?” the bald muscleman yelled as he and his underlings approached. The nightclub was so loud you had to shout to be heard.

Shen Monong acted as if she hadn’t heard him, keeping her eyes on her glass and continuing to drink.

Seeing this, the bald muscleman feigned annoyance. ”Come on, beautiful, that’s no fun. I come over here out of the kindness of my heart to have a drink with you, and you just ignore me? Aren’t you being a little disrespectful?”

Shen Monong still ignored him, continuing to drink on her own.

”Stop drinking!” The bald muscleman snatched the glass from Shen Monong’s hand and hurled it to the floor.

CRASH!

The glass shattered on the ground. The people around, who had already been watching Shen Monong, all turned their heads at the sound.

As if on cue, a staff member cut the music. The sudden silence in the booming nightclub left everyone baffled.

What’s going on?

”You ungrateful bitch!” The bald muscleman’s voice drew everyone’s attention. ”I see you drinking alone and figure you’re bored, so I come over to keep you company. But you completely ignore me, not even sparing me a glance. What’s your problem? You think you’re too good for me?”

He was shouting. He needed to make a scene; the bigger the commotion, the more impactful Lian Zhengrong’s heroic rescue would be.

Shen Monong raised an eyebrow but still paid him no mind. Her glass was gone, so she simply picked up the bottle and drank directly from it.

”I’m talking to you! Are your ears stuffed with crap?” the bald muscleman roared.

Shen Monong still ignored him, but she could tell he was deliberately trying to start trouble. She stood up, bottle in hand, intending to leave.

But five of the bald muscleman’s thugs blocked her path.

”You think you can just walk away after pissing off Master Liu?” one of them sneered, tilting his head.

Shen Monong’s expression finally shifted. She turned to the bald muscleman, her voice filled with disgust. ”What exactly do you want?”

”What do I want? Hmph...” The bald muscleman, Liu Gao, snorted arrogantly. ”I, Liu Gao, have been a big name on Qingfeng Road for years, and no one has ever dared to disrespect me. I kindly offer to have a drink with you, and you ignore me. I talk to you, and you give me the silent treatment. That’s a slap in the face, making me look bad in front of my brothers! If you don’t give me an explanation tonight, you aren’t walking out of this nightclub.”

”What explanation do you want?” Shen Monong asked.

”Kneel, apologize to me, and then have a few drinks with me,” Liu Gao demanded.

”Impossible!” Shen Monong refused without a second thought.

”Then don’t blame me for being forceful.” Liu Gao took out a dagger and stalked toward Shen Monong with a sinister smile.

”What are you doing?” Shen Monong took a step back, a flash of panic in her beautiful eyes.

”What? If you don’t do as I say, I’ll slash your face.” Liu Gao laughed coldly, taunting her. ”If a few scars appeared on such a pretty face... tsk, tsk...”

As he spoke, he pressed the flat of the dagger’s blade against her cheek, poised to slice her skin at any moment.

Seeing this, the nightclub erupted into chaos. The men, in particular, were heartbroken. If such a beautiful woman were disfigured, it would be a tragedy. But as much as their hearts ached, no one dared to step forward and stop Liu Gao. Anyone with eyes could see he was a gangster with a knife and five cronies. No one was brave enough to provoke him.

Hidden in the crowd, Lian Zhengrong smiled. Liu Gao’s acting was superb. Now, it was his turn to make a cool entrance and save the damsel in distress.

”I’ll ask you one last time. Will you kneel, apologize, and drink with me?” Liu Gao glared and shouted, ”If you dare to refuse again, this knife is coming down.”

”Go ahead and do it,” Shen Monong said, her face devoid of expression. They say a woman makes herself beautiful for the one who adores her. I’m about to marry a man I despise, so what’s the point of keeping this devastatingly beautiful face? If I’m disfigured, maybe I won’t have to marry Lian Zhengrong after all.

”Since you’re so ungrateful, don’t blame me for what happens next!” Liu Gao yelled, deliberately raising his voice to signal Lian Zhengrong. It was time for the leading man to make his entrance.

With that, he slowly turned the knife on her cheek, angling the sharp edge as if preparing to cut her.

The crowd gasped. The entire place was in an uproar.

And Lian Zhengrong, seeing his cue, was just about to shout and make his grand appearance.

However, at that very moment, the unexpected happened.

”Stop!” a commanding voice shouted from the crowd. A handsome young man pushed his way forward.

Seeing this man, Liu Gao froze.

The five thugs froze.

Lian Zhengrong also froze.

What’s going on? This wasn’t in the script. How could someone else try to hijack my heroic rescue?

Liu Gao had a flash of insight. Wait, could Lian Zhengrong have arranged for this guy to be here? Is the plan for me to beat up this weak-looking hero first, so Lian Zhengrong can make an even more powerful entrance? That would certainly make the rescue more dramatic! But why change the script without telling me? Luckily, I’m smart enough to have figured out the Young Master’s intentions.

Liu Gao silently patted himself on the back for his brilliance. A true genius
