Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 852, Lost Lands

Translator: Silavin

While Lu Fan was frantically farming Experience Points with the girls in the Extremely Far North Ice Plains.

In the wilderness a thousand kilometres east of Dragon Capital.

A towering mountain stood majestically here.

This was a Map called the Lost Lands.

This Map was extremely complex, with a very unique Mechanics. Ancient Transport Arrays could be found scattered everywhere here. These Arrays seemed like remnants from the previous epoch. Though ancient, they could still function.

The Array positions were all concealed. Unless one was very familiar with the Lost Lands, one could inadvertently step on an Array and be transported to another location on the Map.

Therefore, if one mistakenly entered, there was a high probability of being continuously transported across successive Arrays, forever trapped here. Whether one could get out depended entirely on luck.

Although the Lost Lands didn’t have any fierce Monsters, it was still a very well-known Forbidden Area.

Moreover, this Forbidden Area was extremely famous in Dragon Capital. Basically, every Dragon Capital resident knew that this Forbidden Area closest to Dragon Capital was absolutely prohibited from entry.

Of course, every year there were always a few people who were confident in their own strength and luck, while also being somewhat greedy.

There were rumours that someone had once seen people entering and leaving the Lost Lands freely, even driving armoured vehicles in and out, apparently transporting mysterious items.

These greedy people then speculated that the Lost Lands very likely hid some kind of treasure, perhaps a Secret Realm, a Dungeon Instance, or valuable mineral deposits.

The reason people always claimed this was a Forbidden Area, prohibiting others from entering, was actually deliberate misinformation. Someone did not want others to go in and covet this treasure.

So, these people would quietly sneak into the Lost Lands, gambling that they could find the treasure within and emerge from it.

The fate of these people was, without exception, predictable. They never appeared before the world again.

Over time, the fierce reputation of the Lost Lands gradually spread. Unless one did not value their own life, they would avoid stepping foot inside.

Even the state had publicly stated that the Lost Lands was too dangerous; ordinary Players must absolutely not enter. Furthermore, warning signs were set up around the Lost Lands, and some military personnel were stationed there to guard the place and prevent ordinary people from entering or exiting.

Thus, in recent years, the number of people entering the Lost Lands had decreased somewhat.

At this moment, inside a mountain in the Lost Lands, an artificially excavated cave had taken shape. Its area was extremely large. Almost a third of the mountain had been hollowed out.

Inside the cave, over a thousand people wearing blue or white standardised uniforms were busily working.

Precision instruments and various complex Arrays were neatly arranged here.

Those people wearing work clothes constantly shuttled amongst these instruments and Arrays, clearly researching something mysterious.

In the most central, extremely conspicuous location, there were two platforms about as tall as a person.

On the two platforms were two items.

One was a block of ice, within which was sealed something like a puddle of mud, constantly wriggling inside the ice block. It was clearly still alive.

The other was a piece of black Human skin. It was extremely tough. It didn’t seem particularly dangerous as it should merely be a dead object.

If Lu Fan saw these two items, he would definitely find them extremely familiar. After all, these were precisely the two pieces of Ancient God remains he had handed over to Dragon Country, for them to research.

One came from the Ancient God that had been frozen by the Frost Dragon King, which had turned the Valley of Life into a land of decay and death. The other was from the Fallen Corpse Ancient God.

Clearly, this was a research centre of Dragon Country.

Placing the research centre in the Lost Lands was quite unexpected. After all, the Lost Lands was a Forbidden Area. Although there were no Monsters, if one wasn’t careful when entering or exiting and triggered a Transport Array, one might be transported to an unknown location and never be able to leave for the rest of one’s life.

What no one knew was that Dragon Country had spent thirteen years and sacrificed hundreds of lives just to Map out the Lost Lands and all the Transport Arrays there.

Therefore, the authorities had mastered the Lost Lands, Entering and exiting freely here was no problem.

Very few people knew that the government was purposely preventing outsiders from entering this Map to uncover what the authorities were currently researching. At the same time, even if an internal spy appeared, they couldn’t casually transmit internal information out.

What this research facility was currently researching was naturally the two clues from the Ancient Gods that Lu Fan had delivered.

“How’s it going? Can Engineered Machinery cause obvious damage to them?” A thin old man only 1.6 metres tall, wearing a white lab coat and surrounded by several people, walked over. Looking at the stone platforms where machines or Arrays were continuously conducting experimental research on the two Ancient Gods’ parts, he inquired.

His expression was not good, because quite some time had passed since these two items had been sent here, yet there had not been much obvious progress.

Beside him, a tall, bespectacled middle-aged man replied in a deep voice, “Elder Lu, for now… there isn’t much progress. The two existences we are dealing with are too special and overbearing. Their bodies can be said to have no attributes whatsoever.”

“Without any unique attributes, there are no weaknesses. Finding a way to deal with them really isn’t easy.” Elder Lu fell silent at this moment.

The situation seemed even more difficult than he had thought.

As one of the Three Elders of Dragon Country, and having been immersed in his Engineer Profession for many years, his understanding of this world far exceeded that of ordinary people. He naturally knew that the higher the Level, the more obvious the advantage one held in Mechanics Level.

Just like a Guardian Knight’s Invulnerability Skill, Holy Light Protection, which supposedly grants seven seconds of Invulnerability, when facing enemies above Fifth Profession Change who possessed Divine Power, this marvellous Invulnerability would not take Effect at all. One would still be instantly killed.

This was the suppression brought about by Mechanics Level.

Ancient Gods were definitely existences far above Fifth Profession Change. Their bodies must also be affected by Mechanics Level. Trying to find weaknesses in their bodies using common sense would probably be very difficult.

Because they themselves might not possess any weaknesses.

But if they could not uncover their weaknesses, with the opponent being so formidable, did Humanity really have any hope of winning this battle?

[No!] Thinking of this, Elder Lu’s expression darkened. Even if he had to try every method in the world, he had to find the weak link in the Ancient Gods’ defences!
