Reborn As An Interstellar Giant Mosquito

Chapter 1058: Chapter 30 Saving a Friend

In the serene area, two monsters, one collapsed on the ground, while the other looked regretfully at its body.

Jia Yan gazed at the fallen Souwu, recalling the first encounter with the old fellow, who had rambled on crazily about collaboration.

And then the cooperation over the past half year, they had indeed become quite familiar with each other, yet unexpectedly, here they were, reduced to such a state.

”If I had a choice, I’d rather you never regained consciousness and remained the crazy old Souwu forever, how good that would be.” Jia Yan looked at his old friend with whom he had spent some time and shook his head slightly.

It wasn’t so much sorrow, since the other party had calculated against him first, and Jia Yan felt he was right to have killed him.

”Alright, let’s see what this Chaos Fruit that Souwu had been chasing after really is.” Jia Yan diverted his gaze from Souwu’s body and looked at the Chaos Fruit, a large chunk of which had been torn from its body.

The Chaos Fruit had a body as large as a bull’s, and now only about half of it was left. However, the monster seemed to possess a very vigorous life force, as it was merely unconscious and not dead.

”Eh?” Jia Yan observed the incomprehensible device for a moment, and a look of surprise appeared in his compound eyes.

”This Chaos Fruit, upon my approach, seems to have something exceptional! Its body has a faint attraction for me?”

Jia Yan looked at the monster with interest, but did not touch the ongoing device.

It turned out that in his observation, the decomposed body of the Chaos Fruit exuded a kind of food appeal that even Jia Yan found tempting. This was different from the mutant attraction that Jia Yan always experienced; it was a real food lure, as if Jia Yan could actually devour it.

”It seems the effect of this Chaos Fruit is not fake, but for me...” Jia Yan sighed inwardly and shook his head.

He knew that as an Evolutionary Creature, obtaining something that could promote his next mutation would not be easy, but he still had great expectations for the Chaos Fruit that Souwu had valued so dearly. However, as it turned out, the best the Chaos Fruit could do was incite a bit of a craving in him to devour it, far from the potential to cause another mutation...

Jia Yan had an absurd thought: the thing that Souwu had fought tooth and nail for was not so great for him after all. This was rather ironic.

”However, the machine he used must have some effect. I’ll see if I can gain any advantage from it; otherwise, this mission has yielded nothing, a complete loss.” Jia Yan thought somewhat gloomily.

Just as Jia Yan was pondering this, he failed to notice that at the entrance of the cave, in a small corner, a little mound of dirt was carefully emerging...

Pfffft...

The little mound of dirt enlarged the opening of the cave without making a sound. Then a pair of tiny eyes appeared beneath it.

Even more captivating than those eyes were the elongated duck-like bill above them. The creature’s small eyes could not actually see, but the four eyes still conveyed a sense of urgency.

Yes, this was another Chaos Fruit!

This kind of monster had been surviving in the Foggy Area for who knows how long. Although Souwu had said he had only seen two Chaos Fruits, the actual number of Chaos Fruits was definitely more than what Souwu had encountered. The appearance of this particular Chaos Fruit suggested from its gaze that it was a creature worried about its companion.

Previously, this Chaos Fruit seemed to have given up on the idea of saving its partner, as it felt the cause was hopeless. However, seeing Jia Yan actually kill Souwu, it once again revealed a glimmer of hopeful anticipation.

Yet now, witnessing that Jia Yan did not spare its little friend, it started to feel somewhat sad.

Right before Jia Yan’s eyes, the Chaos Fruit on the device slowly began to fade away. The energy fluctuation from its body also began to dissipate. Jia Yan remained emotionally unswayed, simply watching the spectacle with curiosity. Seeing that devouring the creature’s body directly wasn’t much help to him, observing the results of Souwu’s analysis seemed like a decent avenue for research.

As the Chaos Fruit’s body came closer to death, its form increasingly disappearing...

”Squeak squeak!” With the speed of lightning, a figure burrowed out from one side of the cave entrance.

The creature’s body was terrifying, its speed possibly matched that of an Existence in the Early Stage of Star Space!

But this speed, compared to Jia Yan who had reached the Peak of Starry Sky, held no surprise at all. It’s worth noting that he was one who even had a bit of a fighting chance against speed-oriented monsters like Souwu. Watching this incoming Chaos Fruit, he could easily crush its speed.

Spotting the appearance of this monster, Jia Yan was first startled, but when he saw its body, he sighed softly.

”So it’s another Chaos Fruit. I seemed to have felt some watching eyes earlier, and it was you.”

”Though you’re trying to save a friend, your bravery is commendable, but I still need your companion for observation, and I cannot grant your request.” Jia Yan thought with a degree of sympathy.

But Mosquito’s movements were not slow at all; he leaped forth, coming to stand in front of the Chaos Fruit. For him, since the Chaos Fruit offered little help to his own body’s mutations, he would not kill it simply to satiate his hunger.

”Squeak! Squeak!” The Chaos Fruit, seeing Mosquito block its path, was initially startled, but then, without fear, it changed direction and continued running towards Jia Yan’s feet, as if trying to save its companion.

However, Mosquito blocked its path once again.

”Squeak! Squeak!” This time, the Chaos Fruit knew it absolutely could not escape Jia Yan’s interception and immediately stopped in its tracks.

Looking at Mosquito, who seemed to bear no intention of attacking, the Chaos Fruit glanced at Mosquito’s massive mosquito face, then at its companion on the device. Its companion’s body, under the device’s operation, was getting smaller and smaller, and its lower half had disappeared from view, prompting the Chaos Fruit to cry out in extreme anxiety.

Under Jia Yan’s gaze, the Chaos Fruit actually prostrated before him, forehead knocking on the ground, continuously kowtowing as if in plea.

”Eh, your intelligence seems quite high, and rightfully so. To survive in a region infested with Three-headed Monsters, one must possess either strength or intelligence. However, I will not grant your request. While I do not agree with Souwu’s methods, this is the last thing he did. Whether I agree with his methods or not, I also want to fulfill his last wish. Besides, it’s possible that I might find a clue to my own mutation in it.”

With an expression of refusal, Mosquito’s face was a formidable barrier for the other party.

The Chaos Fruit, in its desperation, began to roll on the ground, creating a rumbling noise. It was, after all, a creature the size of a bull, and its rolling inside the burrow shook the earth violently.

But Mosquito would not be moved by this. He spared the Chaos Fruit’s life not because he felt any mercy, but because of his discomfort from Souwu’s death. Had it been another situation, it was uncertain whether Mosquito would have killed it or captured it for future research.

Realizing that Mosquito would not relent in rescuing its companion, the Chaos Fruit suddenly had an idea!

It flipped itself over, its eyes rolling around.

”Gah Gah Gah!” This monster, somewhat reluctantly, spat out a substance with a metallic luster from its mouth.

Then, it placed the substance before Mosquito and let out a series of cries.

”Squeak! Squeak! Squeak!” Its cries were somewhat weary, and to the ignorant, it might have seemed as if it was expelling the inner core of a monster from a fantasy novel.

However, it seems that it’s not far off. As soon as the Chaos Fruit expelled the metallic substance, its body’s aura significantly weakened, falling from the Heavenly Peak directly to the weakest level of Sky Level.

”Hmm? You want to exchange this with me? Let me take a look.”

Mosquito looked at the other’s form with some curiosity; this was the first time he had seen an alien creature from Starry Sky experience a drop in power due to an external object, making him rather intrigued.

Like he’d mentioned before, monsters within the Star Space grow into Strong Ones according to scientific principles. Although Mosquito did not fully understand the principles behind his own evolutionary transformation, he didn’t believe that elements common to fantasy novels would exist in a high-tech universe.

However, the monster’s actions were oddly similar to those of monsters from fantasy novels, which couldn’t help but surprise Mosquito.

”Hmm? What’s this!”

When Mosquito moved closer to investigate, his Compound Eyes suddenly fixed on the object!

It was a human palm-sized mysterious substance with a somewhat dusty surface. Yet at its core, there was a flicker of light, as if tiny twinkling stars were mysteriously echoing within it.

Its unusual exterior was one thing.

More importantly, this substance, in his Compound Eyes’ view, possessed terrifying Energy!

It even elicited a response from his own body, a direct desire for Devouring.

”What is this?” Mosquito looked at the Chaos Fruit before him with astonished wonder, the killing intent in his eyes flickering briefly.

Previously, the Chaos Fruit was insignificant to him. After all, things that were of no use to Jia Yan, he generally disregarded. But now, it was different; the substance the Chaos Fruit’s body contained seemed to provoke a reaction in his body. Mosquito originally thought it would be difficult to find anything useful to his body in the ordinary Universe, but the Chaos Fruit unexpectedly produced this curious stone!?

That thread of craving in Mosquito’s eyes then became uncontrollable.

”This is useful to me!”

Without much hesitation, Mosquito swiftly took flight and flew straight to the activated Device, his foreleg piercing forth!

Pfft!

The Device, originally a part of Souwu’s Armor, possessed terrifying defensive power. But without the infusion of a Strong One’s Brainwave Power, it was not much different from ordinary metal to Mosquito. At that moment, with a single strike, the Device emitted a sound like that of tearing silk and was pierced straight through!
