I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 990, Battle in the Rainforest

Translator: Silavin

Heavy rain poured down, the rainwater from the sky continuously washing over the mountain slopes.

The Warriors of the Flame Dragon Tribe also entered the forest at this moment. Right now, it was not yet the fiercest time of the rainy season.

The fiercest time of the rainy season was in the month when the rainy season was nearly over. During those few days, the daily rainfall was extremely heavy.

“Everyone must be extra careful. Being in the Wilderness while it is raining is extremely dangerous.” Qing Yan solemnly instructed.

He was the Leader of this Team, leading a total of 10 Totem Warriors away from the Flame Dragon Tribe.

Naturally, all the Warriors brought this time were those who had already awakened previously. He had not brought any Warrior Trainees.

The primitive forest with its continuous rain was fraught with danger. The Warrior Trainees did not yet have enough experience to cope.

To ensure the Tribe would have more Warriors in the future, he had not let the Warrior Trainees accompany them this time.

“Yes.” Qing Mu, Chi Tu, and the others responded in unison.

Their mission this time was to enter the mountains to search for ore. Any variety of ore would do. As long as it was ore that differed from ordinary stones, Su Bai had ordered them to bring it back.

Apart from the rainy season, they did not usually have much time to search for ore. Because after this year’s rainy season ended, Su Bai planned to reorganize the Hunting Team.

That was, he wanted the people on the Hunting Team to search for Ferocious Beast Crystals, and also to train the Warrior Trainees.

The remainder would naturally be defending the Flame Dragon Tribe. Right now, the number of Totem Warriors was not yet very large. There was no way to arrange a group of people to search for ore during normal times.

What if other Tribes attacked the Flame Dragon Tribe? Wouldn’t they be short-handed?

“Be careful of Green Poison Grass. Try not to use Shaman Bone Tablets if you don’t have to.” Qing Yan instructed again.

Green Poison Grass, as its name suggested, was a type of poisonous grass. Its appearance was very similar to vines, winding amongst various trees.

This type of poisonous grass only appeared during the rainy season. If one’s skin merely scraped against this poison grass, one would immediately be paralysed and unable to move.

Although it was not the kind of poison grass that was deadly, the paralysing, burning pain was enough to make one unable to endure it.

Previously, some Warriors had even resorted to amputation because it was simply too painful.

If they did not amputate, forget about becoming disabled, they would become completely paralysed. Compared to being completely paralysed, the Warriors would rather be disabled.

“Understood.” The Warriors responded in unison once more.

All the Warriors wore raincoats, braving the rain continuously falling from above as they kept moving forward.

The Warriors had to guard against Ferocious Beasts at times, and against certain plants at other times. They truly could not afford to be careless at all.

*Clop clop clop…*

*Rustle rustle rustle…*

*Pitter patter…*

The sound of the Warriors advancing, the sound of raindrops falling on leaves, and the sound of falling into the river… all these sounds interwove together.

The dense primitive forest was very much like hosting a grand symphony, except this symphony was fraught with danger.

“We need to quickly reach an open area. There certainly won’t be much ore inside the forest. No need to waste time here.”

Qing Yan narrowed his blue-green eyes. Every step he took was careful and cautious, because the rainy weather caused slippery ground, plus moss and such. It would be very easy to fall directly and suffer a fracture.

“Understood.”

Since they were all Warriors who had awakened last year plus Warriors who had awakened previously, each of them had a strong sense of responsibility, and they were not at all unfamiliar with carrying out missions.

While controlling their speed of advance, they would also pay attention to the surrounding environment, as well as protecting themselves.

*Rustle rustle rustle…*

Just as the Warriors were advancing, a burst of violent rustling of leaves continuously rang out.

Qing Yan instantly sensed some danger, stopped, and raised his hand to signal the Warriors to halt.

He frowned as he looked behind them, saying alertly, “There seems to be danger. When I tell you to run later, absolutely do not hesitate.”

Based on his many years of experience, they were already being pursued by Ferocious Beasts.

“Team Leader, what Ferocious Beast is it?” Qing Mu also knew things were not simple. He could feel a kind of oppressive force approaching them head-on.

“One of the Ferocious Beasts unique to the rainy season. Its movement speed is extremely fast. We cannot hesitate any longer. Run quickly.” Qing Yan shouted, making the Warriors move quickly while he himself stayed at the rear.

The Warriors were not dull either. Upon hearing the command, they immediately began running. Although their running speed was very fast, they would also pay attention to their footing.

Rainy days were the most slippery. Moss, bryophytes, and such were everywhere. If one accidentally fell while being pursued by Ferocious Beasts, the only outcome would be death.

*Roar roar roar…* Just as Qing Yan led the Warriors, having run for about ten minutes, the roars of the Ferocious Beasts drew increasingly closer.

As if they would pounce in the next second, the Warriors also sensed this and accelerated their forward speed even more.

“Everyone prepare your weapons. Be ready to respond to the Ferocious Beasts at any time.” Qing Yan had already taken his large machete in hand.

Due to the rain, everyone had not brought gunpowder into the primitive forest this time.

Moreover, preparing their bows and arrows now would be useless. Bows and arrows could only be aimed properly at long distances. But at the moment the Ferocious Beasts pounced, using bows and arrows would only lead to death. The only way to resist was with close-combat weapons.

If they could detect it earlier, using bows and arrows would still be useful. After all, they could occupy an advantageous position to aim. But the Ferocious Beasts they were dealing with were very clever. They had been stalking nearby, just like a cheetah spotting their prey, merely preparing for the right moment to strike.

“Understood.”

Totem Warriors were Totem Warriors, even encountering this kind of situation, they showed no fear at all.

Everyone immediately adjusted their mindset, each taking out the weapons they carried: all of them Tang Swords, machetes, and the like.

Due to the limited quantity of iron ore, only Totem Warriors could possess a cold weapon.

*Roar roar roar…*

“Everyone stop. Form a circle. Remember, you cannot expose your backs to the Ferocious Beasts.” Qing Yan shouted loudly.

As his words fell, all the Warriors began forming a circle, holding weapons facing in all directions.

The Ferocious Beasts also slowly revealed their forms at this moment. This was a type of Ferocious Beast that looked very similar to a panther.

Except it was a pure black panther, the skin on its body was very smooth like seal skin.

But what differed from panthers was that on both sides of its face at the cheeks, there grew two or three things like shark gills. However, these gills had larger openings. At the same time, their tongues were also very long, and their size was twice as large as Earth’s panthers.

“This is a rather troublesome type of Ferocious Beast…” Qing Yan tested the weight of the weapon in his hand.

When he had previously become separated from the Tribe, he had encountered this kind of Ferocious Beast and fought with it.

In an instant, ten Totem Warriors and over a dozen Ferocious Beasts faced off. The atmosphere instantly became very tense.
