I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 982, Different Special Skills

“Don’t be nervous. Just relax.” Yu Ying’s gentle voice sounded.

Yu Ying could sense the two Sisters’ bewilderment, written all over their faces.

Min slowly raised her head, looking at Yu Ying with astonishment. “Can we really do this?”

They only knew the Tribe was indeed teaching children to read and write, but there was nothing like learning how to draw. So, they were now somewhat nervous. Neither of them knew what to do.

“Of course. You have talent in this area. Being able to draw is a good thing. The Shaman also values talent greatly.” Yu Ying continued her gentle explanation, aiming to help the two Sisters relax as much as possible.

“Older Sister, I want to learn. The Shaman must know how to draw really well.” Wen suddenly said softly.

The little girl truly wanted to draw. She no longer wanted to hide away when she was doing it.

If she had not been organising things today and forgotten to collect the few drawn leaves she had left at the door to dry, they most likely would not have been discovered.

However, being discovered was actually a good thing. At least now she no longer needed to worry she was doing something wrong.

In any case, the Shaman had not blamed them, had he? He had even allowed them to learn how to draw. Her heart could finally settle.

“Shaman, we truly can learn how to draw, right?” Even as Min said this, she dared not raise her head.

Although they were not old, one being ten and the other sixteen, they had heard plenty about the Shaman.

Before Su Bai became the Flame Dragon Tribe’s Shaman, the word ‘Shaman’ had been treated with deity-like reverence. Everyone who met the Shaman had to be extremely respectful.

There was no other reason. The Shaman was a Tribe’s pillar of support. Without a Shaman, there was no Tribe.

Moreover, the previous Old Shaman had been very aged, rarely appearing before others. So, everyone’s perception of the Shaman had always been that of an unreachable figure.

Now, suddenly finding themselves before the Shaman, being asked by the Shaman whether they wanted to learn how to draw, was truly too shocking.

“As long as you’re willing, learning to draw is not a bad thing. You needn’t feel uneasy.” Su Bai explained.

He felt everyone’s hearts were still too closed off. He had not expected they would consider drawing a bad thing, having to hide it while doing it.

When discovered, they even worried whether they would be punished. Changing everyone’s thinking would truly be a long and arduous journey.

“If possible, Shaman, I would like my Little Sister to learn.” Min said very earnestly.

She could not draw at all, not even a little. Those drawings were all personally drawn by Wen and had nothing whatsoever to do with her. Even if she were to learn how to draw, she knew absolutely nothing about it. It would merely waste time. Rather than that, she might as well work more to exchange for labour value. That way, she could exchange for more food for the two of them to eat.

Once her Little Sister began learning to draw, if she also studied, there would be no one working. That would mean no food. Min would never allow that.

“Don’t you want to learn?” Su Bai asked.

Min raised her head anxiously and said carefully, “Shaman, I cannot draw.”

After saying this, the girl immediately lowered her head. Although the Shaman’s features were truly very attractive, staring too long would be disrespectful.

This was what her late Mother had taught everyone. People without status, people who were not Warriors, could not stare at the Shaman for too long.

Actually, no such rule existed. It was merely that people living at the bottom were excessively cautious. They did not want to invite trouble. If they could avoid one matter, they would avoid it.

Not staring at the Shaman too long was their survival principle, lest some person with ulterior motives use it to cause trouble. It was not as if such things had not happened before.

“Then what are you good at doing?” Su Bai asked unhurriedly.

Someone without foundation would indeed find learning difficult, so there was no need to force her to study this. It would be better to follow what she excelled at.

Take Qi La and Lu Lu, for instance. One studied embroidery while the other studied musical instrument crafting. Both had different specialised skills.

“Shaman, I can do anything. Processing Animal Hides, making Animal Hide clothing, transporting things, cleaning the Tribe, and so on. As long as it’s something everyone can do, I can do it.” Min said a great deal in one breath, terribly afraid of making him think she was useless.

If her Little Sister truly studied drawing in future, she would need to work even harder.

“Many people can do these things. Do you have any different special skills?” Su Bai continued to ask patiently.

He knew she was frightened, which was why she had rattled off so many jobs in one breath.

“Different special skills?” Min mumbled, squinting slightly as she began recalling what she was good at.

She had been at the Flame Dragon Tribe for quite a long time now. It seemed the work she repeatedly did was always those same tasks. There was nothing particularly different.

At this moment, Wen gently tugged at Min’s clothing corner. Her soft, cute voice sounded. “My Sister makes the most delicious food. This is her most special quality.”

“Wen, stop talking nonsense. I used good food to coax you. It doesn’t count as any special skill.” Min hastily indicated she should speak more quietly.

Su Bai had indeed heard this. He asked curiously, “What is the kind of food your Sister makes?”

After all, the food everyone could obtain was fixed. He was still curious what the girl could make from fixed food supplies.

“It’s using food obtained from work to make different food, I suppose you could call it mixing.” Min said slowly.

She still dared not raise her head. This was at most just using a little wit. It could not be considered any special skill, or so she thought.

“How do you mix it? Can you demonstrate for me?” Su Bai’s curiosity grew even greater.

“It’s taking the allocated dried meat, boiling it in water, then adding various wild vegetables inside, or flowers and such…” Min spoke very specifically. It was essentially using wild vegetables and wildflowers to enhance flavour, making the meat’s original gamey taste lighter. Or perhaps adding some berries to cook with it. The meat would become very tender and have a slightly sour, fruity fragrance and such.

Quite a few people in the Tribe did this, but everyone was rather lazy. Over time, they no longer bothered.

“In that case, you should learn how to cook. This might be a good profession for you.” Su Bai smiled faintly.

“Shaman, what is cooking?” Min asked in puzzlement.

“It’s making three meals a day, each time making something different. Can you do it?” Su Bai asked.

It was not that he wanted to eat something different every day. It was merely to give the girl some motivation, to make her more ambitious.

“Something different each time?” Min murmured to herself, then raised her head to ask, “Shaman, will you provide me with ingredients?”

“Of course. Why wouldn’t there be?” Su Bai spread his hands, indicating she should rest assured.

Min became extremely happy. Her eyes crinkled into slits from smiling. She nodded emphatically. “Shaman, I’m willing.”
