I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 961, Tribal Spies?

Translator: Silavin

After Ye Jiu and the others finished handling matters with the Green Vine Tribe and Earth Tiger Tribe, they immediately returned to the Yong’an Building.

“Is there anything off about the slaves they sent over?” Su Bai stood by the window.

His vision had already become quite good. Standing by the window, he could see all the way to the Tribe’s main gate.

In the past, there was no way to see so far at a glance. From this, it could be seen that eating Ferocious Beast Meat and Blood every day was still very useful.

“There is nothing improper about them. Those slaves are all people from other Tribes. I can tell this from their eyes.” Ye Jiu said earnestly.

“Oh? How so?” Su Bai asked.

He rarely saw Ye Jiu so certain, and her expression was also very serious.

“I’ve been away from the Tribe for a very long time now. I’ve seen too many Wanderers and too many slaves. Those slaves’ eyes are just like the eyes of these slaves they sent over.”

Ye Jiu paused for a moment, then continued. “So I dare guarantee that those people are not spies, because their eyes cannot be faked.”

“En, I also trust you. If you think there’s no problem, then that’s good.” Su Bai said lightly.

He trusted Ye Jiu. After all, she had been surviving outside for so long. Surviving in the Wilderness full of Ferocious Beasts was tough. Good judgement was needed, and it should at least be more reliable than his own.

“Thank you… thank you, Shaman.” Ye Jiu’s cold and stern, pretty face instantly turned red.

She had not expected Su Bai to respond this way. She was suddenly touched, and at the same time felt somewhat warm inside.

“Arrange them to stay at the edge of the Tribe. Also give them some IDs, then register their names, ages, what they’re good at and so on. This is so we can properly allocate work.”

Su Bai thought for a moment, then continued. “Don’t allow them to do the more confidential work. Just let them do some manual labour first. We’ll observe them for a period of time before deciding.”

“I know what to do, Shaman. I will definitely keep a strict watch on them.” Ye Jiu said earnestly.

Ye Jiu understood Su Bai’s thinking. With one thousand slaves added all at once, they definitely still needed to be careful.

“First screen out the capable people for observation. When we’re certain there’s nothing unusual about them, then we’ll consider giving them important positions.” Su Bai added.

“Yes.” Ye Jiu silently committed this to memory.

“Also, instruct everyone not to discriminate against these people. Although they’re slaves, they’re still people just the same. Those who perform well may even become members of the Flame Dragon Tribe in the future.” Su Bai furrowed his brow, then continued. “Also, the food they should receive cannot be any less, as long as they labour.”

His thinking was that he wanted to turn these one thousand slaves into people of the Flame Dragon Tribe. Naturally, under the premise that these people did not have any ill-intent.

“Does Shaman mean that we will accept these one thousand slaves in the future?” Ye Jiu asked curiously.

Ye Jiu did not reject this. On the contrary, she was somewhat supportive, since she and some Warriors had been accepted by the Flame Dragon Tribe. It was precisely because of this that she had her current life. Otherwise, she really would not know what she would be doing now.

Perhaps she would still be trying to figure out how to fill her stomach, or perhaps worrying about the upcoming rainy season.

Of course, it was also possible she would have already died. These things could not be predicted.

But the one thing that could be predicted was that she absolutely couldn’t have had the kind of life she had now. That was a life only possible by following Shaman.

“Hard to say. If these people are willing, then the Flame Dragon Tribe welcomes them.” Su Bai shrugged his shoulders and took a sip of tea. “We must know that our Tribe is currently in continuous expansion. We urgently need more residents to fill the Tribe. No, it should be called a city.”

He felt that as long as they took in more people, the Tribe would become increasingly prosperous, and it wouldn’t be far from the Tribe becoming a city.

“City? Shaman, what is a city?” Ye Jiu asked curiously.

Su Bai put down his teacup and crossed his legs. “A city is the next evolution of a Tribe. Cities possess much civilization and many people. Of course, they also possess rules. In short, they’re an existence much better than Tribes.”

He always wanted to establish a city.

The existence of a city would give him a greater sense of belonging, because it would come with the existence of civilization and the existence of order. Both were necessary for many people living together.

“Shaman, I will help you complete this idea. We will definitely be able to create a city.” Ye Jiu was infected by these words. In her heart, she also began to hope for a city. The existence of a city would definitely bring in greater joy. This was what Ye Jiu kept thinking in her heart.

“Let’s work hard together.” Su Bai smiled lightly.

“Yes.” Ye Jiu nodded heavily, then continued asking. “Shaman, should we return those two Tribes’ people to them?”

After Ye Jiu finished inspecting the dried meat, Animal Hides and other items, and confirmed there were no problems, she had not immediately released those people.

“En, it depends on them. If they want to leave today, then directly release those people. But if they leave tomorrow, then those people will have to be locked up for one more night.” Su Bai clasped his hands together and said indifferently. “Who knows whether they will cause trouble at night. I really don’t like trouble.”

“Understood. As for those people from Tribes who are unwilling to accept our terms, how should we handle them?” Ye Jiu asked curiously.

“Continue detaining them for now. When the rainy season arrives, have them move stones. They can only be manual labourers for the rest of their lives.” Su Bai said seriously.

He was not some kind of saint. Since it had been said, it had to be done. Those people could not possibly be released, nor could they possibly be accepted by the Flame Dragon Tribe.

As for killing them, that was also impossible. Wouldn’t that be letting them off easy? Having them be slaves to the Tribe for a lifetime was the best choice.

“From now on, we’ll have manpower for road construction and such.” The corners of Ye Jiu’s mouth lifted slightly.

Some time ago, she had led quite a few Warriors to eliminate those Tribes.

These were the Tribes that had previously wanted to uncover their secrets. Since they did not accept their terms, they had to follow what Su Bai said before, and directly eliminate them.

Of course, only Totem Warriors and Warrior Trainees were eliminated. As for ordinary people, they all had to serve as manual labourers.

Su Bai’s plan was to build roads in the forest, and these people were the best labourers, were they not?

However, before that, they first needed to prepare enough stones. Only this way would there be materials for paving roads.

“Rest well after you’re done with your tasks. You’ve worked hard recently.” Su Bai said warmly.

Recently, he had given Ye Jiu quite a few tasks. Often, she would have to be busy with the next one right after finishing the previous one.

“I’m fine.” Ye Jiu’s face flushed with a touch of scarlet again.

She immediately saluted, then turned and left. If she continued staying, the blush on her face would be discovered.
