Arceus's Pirate Journey

Chapter 516: Chapter 515: Mareanie’s Biological Control Project

Due to the difference in species, those coral polyps are more affected. Originally, these coral polyps lived within the coral reefs at the seabed. With expansive growth, the corals reach the surface, forming large areas of reefs.

This issue is not limited to one place; it happens at many confluences of sea currents. Through some violent means, they solved the coral clusters beneath the Origin, but when they returned to Wano Kuni, they discovered that the problem was not just that.

The area outside of Hidden Port was also affected by coral clusters; these incidents happened when Arceus went to the West Sea. At this moment, the Squirtle Fire Brigade is outside teaming up with pirates to handle these rampant corals.

As known to all, the fire brigade’s work is not just about firefighting. They also rescue and provide disaster relief, unlock doors, save people, and capture snakes and bees; the fire brigade’s presence can be seen in these seemingly unrelated tasks.

Though the Squirtle Fire Brigade is different from human firefighters, they still undertake certain tasks. Handling a bees’ nest is not difficult; the water screen formed by several Squirtles cannot be penetrated by ordinary bees.

Squirtles are essential for coral removal operations. The G-Max currents originate from Wano Kuni, and the coral problem currently occurs nearby. Hidden Port is a crucial access for Wano Kuni.

Moreover, the Hundred Beasts Pirate Crew has long surpassed ten thousand. Even stationed in Wano Kuni, they have more than one ship; not all ships are built in the same way as the flagship Origin or Hundred Beasts King.

The solid hulls crafted with Treasure Tree Adam material only result in grounding; an ordinary pirate ship would face severe danger. Ensuring a clear waterway makes coral removal very important.

Now, a group of pirates in diving suits is clearing coral with Squirtle’s help. The turbulent currents weaken the Water Gun’s force, and these corals evolved in this environment, naturally resistant to the currents.

If not for the G-Max currents causing mutation, such coral reefs could never form in the currents. Removal thus requires manpower assistance. Human effort alone, however, cannot maintain stability in the currents.

Even with diving suits, they get swiftly swept away. Jack can rely on his fishman status and Copperajah’s weight to anchor at the seabed.

Yet his handling efficiency is insufficient—he had just cleared a few areas when corals first removed resurfaced.

These corals differ entirely from those in typical seas; evolved special abilities to handle the currents here.

Whereas normal coral polyps take a long time to evolve into reefs, these coral species form enormous clusters via secretions in a matter of days, soon hardening into reefs.

Thus, aided by Squirtles, a coral clean-up squad appears in the nearby waters. But the grounding of Origin indicates inefficient work.

Whether it’s the nightmare legend of the West Sea or these spreading corals, fundamentally they relate to what Arceus created.

However, when Arceus returned to Ghost Island, he was met by a self-reproaching Shaina. She considered the grounding of Arceus’s ship to be her negligence.

”It’s okay, Shaina. It’s not your fault. Professional matters require professionals. Coral cleaning is a bit too much for Squirtles.”

Manual removal is time-intensive; now it’s time for biological control, using beneficial or other organisms to inhibit or eliminate harmful ones.

Clearly, identifying harmful organisms is subjectively human. These rapidly growing corals threaten nearby navigation safety; to Hundred Beasts, they become ”pests.”

Hundred Beasts needs to eliminate not just the coral polyps but also the reefs—effectively similar to rocks.

Yet among the diverse Pokemon, there exist Coral-eating ones.

Non-star Pokemon—Mareanie.

In the Pokemon world, a food chain exists. The created Bounsweet is the favorite food of bird Pokemon; Mareanie is the nemesis of Corsola.

The corals growing atop them are Mareanie’s favorite food, except in Galar. There, due to regional reasons, Corsola evolved distinct attributes, and even Mareanie abstains from eating them.

Mareanie appears like a bizarre creature with trailing long hair, but those aren’t hair—they are tentacles filled with hunting toxins.

Each Mareanie has ten tentacles carrying toxic spikes, with one short tentacle at the front concealing its real face, visible with a mouth of three fangs.

Though Corsola corals are their preferred food, they enjoy any ordinary corals, especially those transformed due to G-Max currents; Arceus believes Mareanie will love these corals.

”Do-doh, do-doh~”

A group of Mareanie stands on the ground, slightly terrifying in appearance, but they’re inherently sociable, living harmoniously.

In the Pokemon world, Corsola branches are excellent as crafts materials. Coral artisans abhor Mareanie, but where corals overflow, they’re welcomed.

From now on, nearby coral regions are likely Mareanie’s dining halls. Estimations suggest their numbers could dynamically balance coral growth.

As coral scale spreads, Mareanie may increase their numbers through reproduction, incorporating another link in the food chain.

Mareanie possess strong self-preservation; if injured but not on the head, they regenerate from fragments. Protected brain intact, bodily wounds heal overnight.

And they are water+poison-type Pokemon. Their top and tentacle toxins inflict extreme pain on enemies.

If pierced by their spikes, the victim first feels numbness, followed by unbearable itchiness, wishing to tear their skin open.

Not everyone, unlike Team Rocket’s Kojiro, can withstand daily poisoning without harm. For example, now, Queen has fallen victim.
