Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1438: Chapter 1258: The Call He Dared Not Answer

She knew even clearer in her heart that her mother-in-law was uncertain, which is why she had said such things for her to hear.

If at this moment, she had also panicked, her mother-in-law would have felt even more distressed.

Despite feeling uneasy inside, An Hao managed to appear very composed on the surface, ”Mom, you’re overthinking it! You’re worried about Qin Jian! He’s not like Ning Bo. Think about it, he has been in the military for so many years, experienced in all sorts of training, and his reactions are extremely sharp. His movements are also very agile. He’s been on the battlefield, contended with floods, fought fires; what hasn’t he experienced? He’s well-trained, so just put your heart back in your belly.”

”You’re sure he’s really okay?” Zhang Yun asked, still worried.

”Of course. Qin Jian is a blessed man! A lucky person doesn’t need to worry; disasters and troubles will go around them!” An Hao said with a smile.

”Listening to you, it really seems to be just a matter of time!” An Hao soothed her worries in a few words, ”I feel much better now, like the stone that has been pressing on me has disappeared without a trace in an instant.”

”If that’s the case, then nothing could be better. It’s getting late; you should go to sleep now,” An Hao said.

”Okay, I’ll go to sleep then. You should sleep too! Taking care of children is no easy task.”

”Mhm,” An Hao nodded.

The next day was gloomy, with snowflakes swirling down steadily.

Zhang Yun was about to go out to buy groceries, but An Hao stopped her, ”Mom, I’ll go instead. It’s very slippery outside with the snow; what if you fall? I’ve already fed the children, just watch over them for a while.”

”Alright then. But be careful yourself,” Zhang Yun handed the grocery basket to An Hao.

An Hao had always delivered groceries for the family, but these past few days, probably because of the earthquake, the prices of vegetables had soared, and many people were hoarding supplies, making all companies especially busy.

It’s just that An Ping hadn’t been able to deliver groceries.

But it didn’t matter, it was just buying groceries, and after getting through the next couple of days, all would be well.

An Hao took the basket and left, after a night of snowfall, the accumulated snow on the ground was quite deep. Riding a bicycle was inconvenient, so she decided to walk.

She had just arrived at the entrance of the military district compound when she saw a military spouse crying her heart out.

Several warriors stood around with their heads lowered and red eyes, trying to console her, ”Sister-in-law, don’t cry! Accept your fate with composure! If our commander knew you were like this, he wouldn’t be at peace leaving!”

”How could it happen so quickly! Gone just like that... leaving me and the children behind, how will we get by?” The military spouse cried out, collapsing to the ground, her tears soaking the clothes in front of her.

Moved by the sight, An Hao approached a sentinel to ask, ”What happened?”

”I heard there was another earthquake! The commander had just led people arriving shortly before, organizing a rescue into the collapsed buildings when he got buried. When they dug him out, he had already... fallen honorably. As soon as the call reached home, the sister-in-law came out crying, and the body is now on its way to the hospital.”

An Hao understood; this was caused by a secondary aftershock.

This is truly a ruthless fate!

One earthquake can wreak so much havoc! Listening, An Hao’s eyes reddened, and she felt a sour nose, distressed with sorrow.

She wanted to go up to the military spouse to say a few comforting words, but she realized she didn’t know what to say.

Just watching the military spouse weep and leave, An Hao finally went on to buy the groceries.

As soon as she entered the door, she heard the telephone at home ringing incessantly. An Hao stood there dumbstruck, staring at the phone, hesitating and not daring to answer it!
