Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1437: Chapter 1257: Can’t Sleep

In the darkness, An Hao suddenly awoke, sweat soaking through her clothes.

Qin Jian had gone for disaster relief work. It was only the first night, and she had already started having nightmares!

There was nothing in the dream, just an empty expanse, but she had been jolted awake without warning.

”Waa waa waa...” Ning Chenyang suddenly began crying, waving his tiny arms and kicking his strong little legs.

Ning Chenguang, upon hearing his brother’s cries, furrowed his brow and also started crying.

The two children, in unison, one with a high pitch and one with a low pitch, created quite a fuss with their crying.

An Hao turned over and sat up, quickly opened the swaddling clothes to check if the children had wet themselves. Sure enough, Little Chenyang had, and the wet diaper had made him uncomfortable, which is why he was crying so hard.

She changed Chenyang’s diaper and then went to check on Chenguang.

Little Chenguang was simply woken up by his brother’s crying; he was a bit hungry and smacked his lips, wanting to nurse.

An Hao picked up Chenguang, lifted her shirt, and began to breastfeed him. At that moment, there was a knock at the door, and Zhang Yun’s voice came through: ”An Hao, Mom’s coming in, okay?”

She pushed the door open and saw An Hao, alone and flustered, trying to calm the two children and said, ”How’s it going? Can you manage? If not, I can take one downstairs with me?”

Ning Yibin’s heart condition wasn’t good, and if it got too noisy, he wouldn’t be able to rest well, which could trigger his illness.

Moreover, such small children need to nurse and then cry after a while, bothering Grandma Zhang Yun again and again. No matter what, she was getting on in years and couldn’t withstand such toil.

”Mom, it’s okay. I can handle it; you go back to sleep. You don’t need to come up if you hear crying again, I can take care of them by myself,” An Hao said.

Zhang Yun nodded, stood up to leave, then thought better of it and turned back: ”You know, I can’t sleep either. Why don’t I keep you company for a while?”

Saying this, she picked up Chenyang and gently coaxed the child to sleep.

The two children gradually quieted down; An Hao told Zhang Yun to go downstairs and rest, but Zhang Yun hesitated, reluctant to leave.

An Hao understood—her mother-in-law must be worried about her own son and therefore couldn’t sleep.

”Mom. Why don’t you sleep with me tonight? Having you here to help with the children would ease my mind! If we can’t sleep, we can chat.”

Zhang Yun, pleased with An Hao’s invitation to stay, agreed.

She took off her shoes and lay down on the other side of the bed, with the two children sandwiched in between.

”An Hao, you must be tired after taking care of the kids all night. You go to sleep first, and I’ll watch over them,” Zhang Yun said.

An Hao turned to her mother-in-law Zhang Yun and asked, ”Mom, I thought you couldn’t sleep.”

Caught in her thoughts, Zhang Yun gave an embarrassed smile and said, ”You noticed, did you?”

”Yes. Are you also worried about Qin Jian?”

Hearing her daughter-in-law speak so, Zhang Yun simply let out her own worries: ”You’re absolutely right! I have never been this worried in all these years.”

”Don’t worry. Nothing will happen to Qin Jian! He’s with many others!” An Hao consoled Zhang Yun.

”That’s easy to say, but I can’t help but worry. The last time he was involved in some pursuit operation, although I was worried, it wasn’t like this,” Zhang Yun said with a deep sigh. ”You don’t know, the night before Ning Bo died of heart failure, I just couldn’t sleep. An entire night of insomnia, even though my mind was a blank, I just couldn’t fall asleep.”

These words from Zhang Yun gave An Hao quite a
