Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1429: Chapter 1249: You Must Return Safely

Gu Shuangshuang was reluctant in her heart, but there was no other way.

Faced with disaster, they could only sacrifice their own small family concerns for the greater good of all.

”I know. But, I just can’t bear to leave you.”

”I can’t bear to leave you either,” Tian Niu hugged Gu Shuangshuang tightly, ”We’re married now, and there’s a house for us in the military district, too. Once you’re ready, you move in first. This separation is only for a month or two, just hang in there.”

”Mhm.” Gu Shuangshuang nodded and agreed.

Tian Niu picked up his luggage to leave, and Gu Shuangshuang held his hand, unable to let go.

Tian Niu’s mother had packed a bunch of food for her son and stuffed it into his hands, speaking with deep emotion, ”Go, you’re a soldier! The son of the people, and when the people are in distress you can’t stand idly by! Do your job well, and don’t worry about home—I’m here for everything. I’ll take good care of your Shuangshuang. Just focus on the disaster relief!”

”Mom, I understand!” Tian Niu accepted the items, gave his mother a military salute, looked at Gu Shuangshuang with a face full of reluctance, and then turned to leave.

...

After hours of bumpy travel, the trio returned to Nancheng City.

The car stopped at the entrance of the military district compound, and An Hao got out of the car.

”Wife, you go back first, I must rush back to the troop immediately!” Qin Jian said to her after rolling down the car window.

”Wait,” An Hao quickly called out.

Qin Jian looked at her, asking, ”What is it? Is there something else?”

”Go back to have one more look before you leave,” An Hao softly said to him, ”At least, have a look at your two sons.”

The earthquake relief was certain to keep him away for a long time.

According to the telegram, the disaster was severe and the search and rescue operations were undoubtedly more complicated, requiring a lot of time.

”No need. Once I’m back from the meeting, I’m sure I’ll come back again...” Everyone was waiting for him and Tian Niu to attend a meeting, and he couldn’t delay any longer.

”Then... okay,” An Hao said with some regret.

She stepped forward and gazed deeply at Qin Jian, ”Remember to come back safely! Your sons and I will be waiting for you!”

”Okay.” Qin Jian nodded, reached out with his long arm to hook around An Hao’s neck, and with a bend of his head, gave her a kiss.

”I’m leaving.” Qin Jian said, then started the car and left.

Qin Jian and Tian Niu returned to the regiment headquarters, and Qin Jian, without even catching his breath, went straight to the division headquarters.

Zhang Jianguo was in a meeting. When he saw Qin Jian come in, his eyes signaled for him to rejoin the ranks quickly.

Then, he continued the meeting.

”The disaster is severe, the earthquake’s magnitude is high, the tremors strong, and the destruction widespread! We’ve received orders from our superiors to dispatch two regiments to join the disaster relief operation,” he concluded, as his gaze shifted toward Qin Jian, ”You’ll lead your team to the front line, to the area hardest hit by the disaster! Along with the local garrison there, you should be able to start participating in the relief activities.”

The next teams would stand by, ready to deploy at a moment’s notice based on the situation.

”Yes. I will obey the orders resolutely!” Qin Jian stood up and said.

”After the meeting, don’t delay a moment, head straight for the disaster area.”

”Yes!”

Qin Jian immediately returned to his troops and issued the orders.

The entire body of soldiers slung their packs over their shoulders, jumped onto the big trucks, and one after another, rushed toward the disaster area.

...

An Hao returned home to find Zhang Yun alone, trying to soothe the two children, frantically at her wit’s end.

Seeing An Hao had finally come back, Zhang Yun let out a sigh of relief, ”You’re finally back, I was nearly driven mad! These two little rascals insist on being held, and cry heart-wrenchingly when put down. Whoever I let go of, starts crying.”
