Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1430: Chapter 1250 Rushing to the Disaster Area

”Are you hungry?” An Hao picked up one of the treasures and lifted her clothes to breastfeed.

The baby guzzled down happily without fussing anymore.

Zhang Yun was holding the other one, slowly rocking it in her arms.

”They’re both okay, right?” After a day’s walk, An Hao was really worried about the children.

”They’re fine, except for being naughty!” Zhang Yun pinched Little Chenyang’s face in her arms. ”Why are they both such little troublemakers, huh? Even so, grandma adores them terribly.”

”Was there an earthquake at our house yesterday?” An Hao asked.

”Yes. The house swayed a bit, but it wasn’t strong! However, Lai County and Gaocheng were much more severely affected. Your dad went off to the army early in the morning! Qin Jian went too, right?”

”That’s right, I received a telegram first thing this morning! I hurried back, and when I got to the military district entrance, I asked him to come in and see his son, but he didn’t have the time.”

”That’s their profession! Don’t worry, Qin Jian and the others will surely come back safe.”

”Mm,” An Hao nodded heavily.

With both men of the house not around, the two women could only comfort each other.

...

The earthquake was very severe, and the roads to the affected area were all blocked.

Worse still, the sky began to darken, clouds gathered, and small snowflakes started swirling down.

”What should we do, Commander?” the young soldier driving asked.

Qin Jian furrowed his brow, looked at the situation ahead, and said, ”Is there another way?”

”There is! It might be a bit out of the way,” the young soldier said.

Qin Jian jumped out of the vehicle, and several other leaders also got out of their cars.

”Commander, the road ahead is completely blocked; we can’t get through. I’ve looked at the map in the vehicle, and there is another road, but it’s a very long detour,” deputy commander Hen Zhiyuan approached, with the map in his hand, showing it to Qin Jian.

”Yes! Let’s take the detour! We simply can’t get through here.” Several company commanders who had come for the rescue also gathered around.

”Can the vehicles turn around?” Qin Jian was worried that the space was too narrow to turn the vehicles around.

”We can pad up the turn we just passed a bit with shovels to facilitate reversing! That’s no problem,” one company commander said.

Qin Jian pondered for a moment and said, ”Then quickly pad up the turn so the main force can turn around and leave. Leave a portion of the soldiers here to repair the road.”

”There are still aftershocks, and even if we clear it, the falling rocks will block it again,” deputy commander Hen Zhiyuan worried that they were engaging in futile effort.

”Yes, Commander! The people are waiting for our rescue; is it okay for us to stop and repair the road here? It will delay saving lives,” one company commander said.

”If we detour, what about the support troops? Later, supply vehicles won’t be able to get through, rescue vehicles won’t be able to get through, and the injured won’t be able to be transported out. You must know, this is the shortcut!” Qin Jian said.

”The Commander is right. We must fix this road,” Tian Niu supported Qin Jian’s view.

After Qin Jian’s analysis, Hen Zhiyuan realized he had indeed thought too little.

”Alright, let’s do as the Commander says!”

”One company commander stays behind to repair the road; everyone else turns around and goes full force toward the site!” Qin Jian said.

”Yes!”

At once, all the soldiers jumped down and started to grab tools to repair the road quickly.

As the main force rushed towards the disaster area, Qin Jian was deeply pained by the scene before him.
