Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1431: Chapter 1251: Follow Me with a Class

The once serene and beautiful place was now a scene of utter devastation. Houses had collapsed, the earth had sunk, roads were cut off, and even now, loose stones from the mountains continued to tumble down every so often.

Those who had lost loved ones had all gathered on a flat area to one side. Their bodies bore scars, and as they looked at their ruined homes, not resembling homes anymore, they cried out in heart-wrenching grief.

Underneath each pile of rubble was someone they loved dearly.

Elders cried for their children, children for their elders, and in just a few short minutes, this place had turned into a living hell.

Qin Jian felt a rush of emotion, his eyes reddening. Such tragic scenes would touch anyone’s heart deeply.

The villagers were conducting rescue efforts on their own, with the village Party secretary leading the sorrowful crowd in prying apart collapsed houses and extracting people who were barely clinging to life.

Many vibrant lives had, in an instant, become nothing more than cold corpses.

”Report to the commander, all personnel have assembled!”

Qin Jian nodded and walked with heavy steps to the assembled warriors. ”You’ve all seen the extent of the disaster! We believe the pain in your hearts must be as great as mine, if not greater. Now that we have arrived, please put in every effort to race against time and rescue those in need!”

”Yes!” the warriors roared out loud.

In that moment, the village Party secretary arrived with a few village leaders. Seeing the PLA, they couldn’t help but shed tears of excitement.

”You’ve finally come! Thank goodness you’ve arrived, please quickly save our fellow villagers! They are still waiting in pain under the rubble.”

”Don’t worry, our purpose for coming here is to rescue everyone. Now, could one of the leaders please give us a detailed account of the situation? The more detailed, the better, so we can have a clear direction for the rescue operation,” said Qin Jian.

”Alright. I am the village Party secretary! The area you are in now is probably the most severely damaged. As you can see, almost all the houses here have collapsed... From here as the center, to the southeast, there are quite a few residents, while to the west and north, the population is relatively sparse.”

Qin Jian felt it was certainly not enough to rely solely on the village chief’s words, as their concept of the terrain was not clear.

”In that case, a few of you leaders who are very clear about the situation, please spread out and lead our warriors to different areas for rescue. If we don’t need too many people here, we can distribute the forces to other areas in need of rescue,” Qin Jian ordered.

”Okay. Let’s divide the tasks! I’ll take people southeast, as that area is very densely populated. There must be at least a hundred or so people there,” the village Party secretary said.

”Second Battalion Commander, take your troops!” Qin Jian commanded. ”Report back in a timely manner if there are any issues, and if you need more people, continue to call for support!”

”Yes.”

”West and north also need manpower, send an augmented company to each.”

”Yes.”

”There might be heavy snow tonight, so the rest of you set up tents on the spot! The cooking squad should prepare to start cooking and ensure that everyone rescued has hot food to eat and hot water to drink. Anyone who can be spared should head to another village! Prepare the communication equipment and send a report to the division headquarters about the situation, so we can receive support from the subsequent forces.”

”Yes!”

After Qin Jian had made all the arrangements, he saw a man covered in blood, dragging an injured leg with difficulty as he moved.

He walked up to Qin Jian and simply knelt down.

”PLA, I beg you to save my wife and child! We lived halfway up the hillside, and when the earthquake hit, they were both trapped! I’m begging you! My wife is also pregnant. She really can’t wait much longer.”

”Don’t panic! I’ll get some people to go with you right away,” Qin Jian said, and turning his head, he saw his troops busily performing their duties. He called out, ”I need a squad to come with me.”
