Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1219: Chapter 1219: Someone Needs to Take Responsibility

”Yes!” Lei Linxuan glanced at Ma Mei and said, ”What? Dr. Ma, are you scared?”

”Scared? What are you joking about?” Ma Mei released Lei Linxuan’s hand and said, ”Then you better go quickly, lest something happens later and you blame me! I can’t afford to offend two directors.”

Lei Linxuan frowned and did not speak, then left.

In the break room, the looks people gave Ma Mei seemed to carry a deeper meaning.

Ji Chuan and Yan Ye met and discussed the matter further.

The Director opened a phone call, Ji Chuan finished the call, and then both he and Yan Ye went upstairs.

The patient’s family had already made a scene in the Director’s office, and they had just left when the Director’s face appeared visibly exhausted.

”Director...”

The Director rubbed his brow and raised his hand to indicate for them to sit.

”Have there been any leads in the investigation?”

”It is difficult to pinpoint exactly whose problem this was,” Ji Chuan said. Afterward, he recounted the process of the investigation to the Director.

”Isn’t there a result already? Everyone says it’s An Hao’s problem, isn’t the outcome obvious?”

The Director had been extremely troubled these past few days because of this incident, marking the first time such a situation had occurred since the hospital’s establishment.

”Of course, that’s not the result!” Yan Ye took over the conversation and said, ”But An Hao insists it’s not her problem but Ma Mei’s. She saw with her own eyes how Dr. Ma overstepped her bounds, swiftly and skillfully removing the IV tube.”

”She would never admit to it herself!! This is a major medical incident; the issues she’s caused are severe. She has to bear all the medical responsibilities and could also be fired! I don’t care how outstanding she is, but with an incident like this, who would dare to employ her again?” the Director said angrily.

No matter how the responsibility for the accident is defined, the patient is definitely not at fault; all the errors lie on their side.

Thus, he was already discussing compensation matters with the patient’s family.

Moreover, the hospital was certainly still treating this comatose patient, allowing him to continue receiving medical care at the hospital.

Until the day his heartbeat stopped.

Even if the hospital were to make compensation, the doctor who made the error would not be exempt from liability.

Someone must bear the responsibility for this incident, and the hospital would not condone such doctors, nor would it allow such careless and irresponsible doctors to treat patients.

”From your perspective, Director, the doctor in charge of this surgery should bear the responsibility! Knowing the other party was an intern who might make omissions during the surgery, why didn’t the lead surgeon check? Why didn’t the anesthesiologist check?” Ji Chuan felt the Director was being subjective.

If accountability was necessary, it definitely could not be limited to just one individual.

Even if An Hao had made a direct mistake, she should not bear all the responsibility alone.

”Moreover, what everyone saw initially was only An Hao reapplying the adhesive tape for the patient, not the process of removing the IV tube!” Yan Ye emphasized this objective fact, ”However, what An Hao indeed saw was Ma Mei directly removing the tube!”

Although both claimed it wasn’t their fault, no stronger evidence could be found to prove otherwise.

Therefore, both might be considered suspect of negligence; it couldn’t be said that the responsibility lies solely with one person.

”Enough, both of you stop talking. I will discuss this matter with other hospital leaders in a meeting! If necessary, we’ll report to higher authorities to see how to handle this.”
