Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1210: Chapter 1210: It’s Over

As soon as Ji Chuan finished speaking, Ma Mei and Dr. Zhou felt a sudden jolt in their hearts.

After the surgery for gallstones, the patient had unexpectedly become a vegetative person. Clearly, the biggest issue likely lay with the anesthesia.

Dr. Zhou clasped a handful of cold sweat, his heart pounding intensely.

”Was there any issue during the anesthesia process?” Ji Chuan continued to probe.

”There weren’t any major issues, everything was very normal,” Dr. Zhou stated truthfully. ”At the end of the surgery, the patient’s eyes had already started to blink, which indicated that the patient was showing signs of waking up. At that time, the nurse even said that the patient blinked several times. I remember it clearly, I told them not to worry and that the anesthesia tube could be removed.”

Such a scenario is a very positive one; both the surgery and the patient’s waking occurred.

A good anesthesiologist is able to achieve this.

Although his anesthesia skills weren’t the best, this time he indeed managed it well; as soon as the anesthesia tube was pulled, the patient would be able to wake up soon.

”You are an anesthesiologist, and you should be in control of the entire quantity of anesthesia during the surgery. How could you delegate this to someone else?” Ji Chuan questioned Dr. Zhou. ”So you’re saying, you didn’t actually remove the anesthesia infusion tube yourself?”

”No, it wasn’t me who removed it,” the anesthesiologist admitted. ”At that time, when I said it could be removed, it was just me talking to myself, and I didn’t instruct anyone else to do so. I checked the patient’s condition, and when I looked up, I noticed that the tube had already been pulled out.”

”Who removed the tube?” Ji Chuan was almost certain where the problem in this incident lay.

”Let me think...” Dr. Zhou said.

That night had been too busy and chaotic, and he was somewhat forgetful of some details, needing to recall them properly.

Ma Mei was also trying to recall. Everything had been normal during the surgery, and after Dr. Zhou spoke...

Suddenly, Ma Mei remembered, her heart starting to race as blood rushed to her brain.

At that time, it was she who had casually removed the anesthesia tube.

It was her!

At the time, there were two IV infusion tubes, one for antibiotics and the other for anesthesia...

Could she have removed the wrong one?

So, did that lead to the patient being overdosed with anesthesia, causing brain damage and the prolonged inability to awaken from anesthesia?

Ma Mei felt as if she had fallen into an icy cavern, her entire body stiffening.

It was over!

She was really done for!

If the patient really had become vegetative, then she would have to bear the full responsibility for this medical incident, and the consequences awaiting her were unimaginable.

As Ma Mei was fretting to death, the anesthesiologist Dr. Zhou seemed to remember.

”It seems it was the new intern, An Hao!” Dr. Zhou said. ”I recall at that time she was on the operating table as my assistant, and everyone appeared to witness this scene... yes, it must have been An Hao.”

”Her? How could it be her?” Ji Chuan clearly remembered that after their surgery was completed, An Hao was physically drained, and he had let her leave earlier, so how could it be...?

”No mistake! It was indeed her!” Ma Mei gripped her trembling hands tightly and said, ”At that time, An Hao indeed did not leave; she came up on the operating table as my assistant. The director personally arranged it because we were too busy at the time to find a more suitable person. If you don’t believe it, you can ask others...”
