Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1209: Chapter 1209: There’s a problem

”Why hasn’t my father woken up yet?” the patient’s relative yelled, ”Didn’t you say he would wake up soon after the surgery? Why? It’s been seven or eight hours since the surgery was completed, and there’s still no sign of him waking up!”

Ji Chuan approached the patient’s bed to examine him.

The nurse standing by gave him a brief account of the patient’s condition the previous night.

The patient was originally suffering from chronic cholecystitis with stones, and had suddenly experienced an acute attack last night. Without surgery, his life would have been at risk.

Therefore, the patient was rushed to the operating room for surgery.

This was supposed to be a routine operation, without any particular difficulty.

But the patient’s postoperative condition was truly puzzling.

After listening to the story and completing his examination of the patient, Ji Chuan was shocked.

Vegetative state!

The patient had unexpectedly fallen into a vegetative state!

How could this have happened?

”Who performed the surgery on this patient last night? Who was the anesthetist?” Ji Chuan asked with furrowed brows, turning to address the nurse on duty the previous night.

”It was Doctor Ma from cardiac surgery! Due to a staff shortage last night, Doctor Ma was called in to perform the surgery after the approval of the dean! The anesthetist was Doctor Zhou,” the nurse replied.

Without saying another word, Ji Chuan turned and left the ward.

”Hey, Director Ji, where are you going?” the nurse called after him several times, ”Director Ji, Director Ji, what about the patient?”

”What kind of attitude is this!! Is this how your affiliated hospital treats patients?” the patient’s family shouted in the ward, expressing their dissatisfaction angrily, ”Call your dean over! I want to see the dean!”

”Please don’t be anxious, our director has gone to investigate the cause and find a solution! Please calm down!” the nurse tried to console continuously.

”Calm down, you calm down for me! It’s not your father lying on the hospital bed! Where is the dean’s office? I’m going to find the dean!”

..................

Ji Chuan went to the department of cardiac surgery.

Ma Mei was in the doctors’ lounge organizing surgical records. Seeing Ji Chuan’s serious expression approaching her, Ma Mei couldn’t help but feel puzzled, ”Director Ji, are you looking for me?”

”Yes, it’s you! Doctor Ma, please step out for a moment. I have something to tell you.”

”Okay.”

Ma Mei put down the paperwork she was holding and followed Ji Chuan up to the rooftop on the twelfth floor.

Once they were up there, Ma Mei realized that it wasn’t just the two of them; Doctor Zhou, the anesthetist, was also waiting there.

”Director Ji, what is this...?” Ma Mei couldn’t quite guess the meaning of Ji Chuan’s actions.

Ji Chuan did not answer Ma Mei’s question but directly asked the two of them, ”How did yesterday’s surgery go?”

”It went very smoothly! There was nothing difficult,” Ma Mei said, ”Has there been any problem?”

”And the anesthesia process?” Ji Chuan asked next.

”It was also normal! What happened?” After answering, Doctor Zhou, the anesthetist, began to feel a bad premonition, ”Did something happen to the patient?”

”Yes. It’s been eight hours since the surgery, and there’s no indication that the patient is waking up! The nurses called for him several times in the middle, and his family has been making a fuss in the ward for a long time, but the patient still hasn’t woken up,” Ji Chuan said with a headache, ”It looks like the patient has become a vegetative person!”
