Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1218: Chapter 1218: Blatant Lies

”Who said that was any good? A while back, Dr. Gong from the Central Hospital left a gauze inside a patient’s stomach during surgery. I heard she had quite a reputation in obstetrics and gynecology, no? She’s one of the top names here in Nancheng City.”

”You have a point. After all, those two were closest to that needle. Lucky for us we were far away, or we would not be able to clear ourselves either.”

Ma Mei went to get some hot water and happened to overhear their discussion, her fists clenched tightly.

These people had begun to suspect her too!

If anyone really remembered something, that would be troublesome.

So, Ma Mei walked over with a smile on her face, watching the kettle, ”What are you all talking about?”

”Nothing, nothing at all.” A few of them quickly waved their hands.

”I heard everything,” Ma Mei said with a smile, ”It’s normal for you to speculate like this, I’m not complaining. After all, An Hao is Director Yan’s prized pupil! I bet he’d rather have the trouble fall on me than on An Hao, right?”

”That goes without saying.” Everyone agreed on that point.

”Director Yan treats An Hao really well—there’s nothing to criticize there! I heard he personally sent An Hao and Lei Linxuan to the General Surgery Department. He even made a special point of instructing Ji Chuan to personally look after them both.”

”If I had such a teacher, how great that would be.”

”A while ago, when An Hao got pregnant, Yan Ye even talked to Ji Chuan specifically about it, asking Ji Chuan to take extra care of her. Isn’t that a bit too much involvement?”

Ma Mei suddenly remembered a surgery once, where Yan Ye and An Hao came out an hour later than everyone else.

So she casually mentioned, ”The relationship between those two is just too unusual! Last time after a surgery, everyone else had left, but just those two stayed behind for a full hour before coming out. If you tell me there’s nothing fishy between them, I wouldn’t believe it.”

”Really?” That statement was like a huge stone thrown into the center of a lake, instantly stirring up waves among them.

”How could it be fake? I saw it with my own eyes.” Ma Mei spared no effort in causing trouble for An Hao.

”No wonder.”

”I was saying Director Yan is too biased. Seems the relationship between those two isn’t just teacher-student; there’s something more.”

”What else could it be? You all think too much.” Lei Linxuan suddenly appeared at the doorway of the utility room.

Originally, Ji Chuan had called Yan Ye, but nobody in the office answered, and just as Lei Linxuan was passing by his door, he casually asked Lei Linxuan to go up and call Yan Ye.

Just as Lei Linxuan came upstairs, she overheard the group gossiping as she passed by the utility room.

Yan Ye and An Hao had helped her multiple times; she couldn’t let these people slander them.

So she said, ”I was there that day too. Teacher Yan explained the surgical procedure to us in detail. The two of them left first, and I was the last one. Ms. Ma, you saw me; why didn’t you mention that?”

”What? Who saw you? I didn’t see you at all,” Ma Mei immediately denied.

”Well, if you didn’t see, it’s still your word against mine, you can say whatever you like,” Lei Linxuan had learned how to deal with someone like Ma Mei.

”How can you tell such lies?” We never expected the always honest Lei Linxuan to say something like this.

”I’m just telling the truth,” Lei Linxuan said, then turned to leave.

”Don’t go, explain yourself properly,” Ma Mei grabbed Lei Linxuan, unwilling to let her go.

”Ms. Ma, please let me go. The dean has asked Teacher Ji and Teacher Yan to present the investigation results now, and I was sent by Teacher Ji to inform Teacher Yan,” Lei Linxuan said.

”What? The investigation results are coming out?” Ma Mei suddenly became nervous.
