Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 985: Chapter 985: The Charm of the Young Wife is Great

”What kind of practical action?” Commander Lin asked.

”For example, how about a ’beauty trap’ of sorts!” the Deputy Commander joked. ”It’s said that heroes can’t resist beauties since ancient times. Why don’t you get a beauty for real? I think Yingzi from the cultural troupe is not bad—tall and pretty. Why not let her serve as the Staff Officer’s communications soldier?”

While they were talking, they arrived at the headquarters, and the guard got out first to open the car door.

Commander Lin got out and said with a chuckle, ”It looks like you’re about to make a mistake! What, aiming to wreck a military marriage?”

”No, not at all! I’m just trying to secure some benefits for the Staff Officer! Having her by his side, a single glance when he’s tired would be absolutely refreshing!”

”Thanks for your kindness, Deputy Commander. But such a good thing, better leave it to you,” Qin Jian laughed.

”Would he dare?” Commander Lin couldn’t help but expose the Deputy Commander’s former antics. ”The last time the cultural troupe performed, he just glanced one more time at that young lady. Did you ask her if she got down on her knees with a washboard when she got home?”

”Commander! Save some face for me. I’m actually coming up with ideas here,” replied the Deputy Commander.

”You! Better drop it! Qin Jian’s little wife, that’s like a hook hanging from his heart. Did you ask around? Ever since they got married, have they ever fought even once?”

”That can only prove that sister-in-law is capable!” the Deputy Commander said with emotion, ”It’s truly the charm of the little wife that prevails...”

The three of them talked and went upstairs.

The communications operator came out of the telephone room, saluted the three leaders with a snap, and then said to Qin Jian, ”There was a call from your home just now. They said your father’s heart condition relapsed and he’s been hospitalized again, and your wife, she’s unwell with a high fever that won’t subside.”

Qin Jian’s brow furrowed instantly. With the home front in such a mess, it seemed he had to make a trip back.

So, he turned to speak to Commander Lin.

”Alright. I know what you want to say. You go home. I’ve approved your leave!”

”Thank you, Commander!” After saluting, Qin Jian turned and went back to his dormitory to pack his belongings.

He bought a sleeper ticket for the evening train and left overnight. The next afternoon, he got off the train and hurried back to the military compound.

The person who opened the door turned out to be Zhang Yun.

”Mom! I’m back,” Qin Jian said as he tossed his luggage on the ground and walked inside, ”How are Dad and An Hao? Are they both in the hospital?”

”They’ve both come back.” Speaking of the events at home these past few days, Zhang Yun couldn’t help shedding tears. ”Jianzi, you have no idea how your mom has managed these few days. Right after you left, so much happened at home, and Xiaoye has been holding the fort. If not for him, I’d have been worried sick. These days, Xiaoliu from the security has been running around helping...”

”I’ll go thank you all later. Mom, how are Dad and An Hao doing now?” Qin Jian asked with concern.

”Your dad is okay now. But, your wife’s fever just won’t go down... Go see her. I’ll go to the kitchen and make her something to eat. She hasn’t eaten well for several days and has lost weight,” Zhang Yun said before heading to the kitchen.

Qin Jian first looked into his parents’ bedroom to see Ning Yibin, who was sleeping quietly, and without disturbing him, left the room and went upstairs.

In the bedroom upstairs, An Hao lay under the covers, one arm hooked up to an IV, sleeping groggily, totally unaware of his arrival.

Qin Jian gently sat on the edge of the bed and took hold of An Hao’s hand.
