Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 982: Chapter 982: Consequences You Can’t Afford to Bear

Cheng Yue picked up some food with his chopsticks and took a bite; with a ”puh,” he spat it out, completely losing his appetite.

Should he believe it?

Or not believe it?

He should find a time to ask!

Lei Linxuan found a deserted spot and sobbed her heart out.

Overnight, the whole school was discussing the matter, pointing fingers at her. Holding onto an honor that didn’t belong to her, she was burdened with indescribable fear.

The pressure was too much for her; she couldn’t bear it, let alone face the questioning of her own soul!

After crying enough, she wiped away her tears. Once she had calmed down, she went to look for Cheng Yu again.

Cheng Yu was in poor health and would head back to the faculty building early after class. Lei Linxuan waited for her on the path leading there.

The weather was cold.

As the snowflakes grew heavier, Lei Linxuan kept stamping her feet and rubbing her hands as she walked back and forth beneath a row of bare Chinese parasol trees.

She had been waiting for a long time and was almost frozen stiff when she saw the grey figure approaching from afar.

”Teacher Cheng!” Lei Linxuan hurried forward, ”I can’t take it anymore. We must talk about this issue.”

”There’s nothing to talk about. Just do as I told you,” Cheng Yu said today with a particularly sallow complexion, which could be described as terribly poor.

Her face was pale with not a hint of color, and there were faint dark circles under her swollen eyes. She looked utterly exhausted.

Seeing her like this, Lei Linxuan felt reluctant to disturb her.

But the issue was beyond her tolerance, and she had to speak up, ”Teacher Cheng, I’ve made up my mind. I don’t want this honor; I can’t face my conscience. So, I’ve decided to tell the truth.”

”You wouldn’t dare!” Cheng Yu’s usual gentle demeanor vanished. With her eyebrows raised and eyes wide open, she seemed like a completely different person, ”I won’t let you speak. I helped you, and now do I have to be responsible for this?”

”Teacher Cheng, I can’t go on like this, can I?” Lei Linxuan couldn’t help but cry, ”I can’t bear this pressure.”

”It seems I misjudged you. Do you not even have the capacity to withstand this pressure? If you speak up, you will lose everything.”

”Then so be it,” she replied. If worse came to worst, she could just go work at the grassroots level in the future; after all, she was still a military doctor.

Even so, she no longer wanted to endure this torment.

”You won’t be able to say it,” Cheng Yu was at her limit too, her patience exhausted. Her vision began to blur once again, and her body swayed before she steadied herself.

”Teacher Cheng, what’s wrong with you?” Lei Linxuan moved to support her but was pushed away by Cheng Yu.

”I’m asking you one more time. Will you speak or not?”

Lei Linxuan bit her lip: ”I will! I’ll tell An Hao!”

”I advise you to think thrice before you act. If I end up being the one everyone points their finger at, you will not be able to bear the consequences. I’ll give you three days to consider. If after three days you’ve made up your mind, go ahead and tell An Hao. If you regret it, you still have plenty of time to change your decision.” Having said that, Cheng Yu left a cryptic smile on her lips and quickly walked away.

Lei Linxuan clenched her fists and stood in place, tears streaming down her face.

Back in the faculty dormitory, Cheng Yu kicked off her high heels and stumbled onto the bed.

Her ears rang with a piercing noise, her vision was a blur, and her head ached terribly, as if it were about to split apart.
